Im updating my review 2/24/09 I have started going back to this restaurant after a year long hiatus (theres not a lot to pick from locally). I can only hope my review had an affect because I find the source of my complaint to be greatly improved. Ive eaten there three times, all times my food was the proper temperature. Likewise, the food is not sitting in the window waiting for "my" waitress to deliver it. I find the service in general has improved. As a former waitress (and a professional corporate trainer for a large chain), I understand lag times if one is double or triple seated but response has been prompt even under those challenging circumstances. I am pleased to see what I think are demonstrable management improvements. A young man who was formerly a bus boy (didnt really fit, rather slovenly) has been moved to a position of greater responsibility cooking and I think he is doing well with this (he seems to like moving fast). All of these elements demonstrate management is increasingly responsive and willing to invest in staff development. Lastly, there are fewer "pretty" airhead servers. Staffing seems to be more static. In sum, I would recommend this restaurant if youre in town. You could do much worse. --------------------- Ive been eating here for at least three years. Its not bad compared to what we have to choose from in LC but Ive finally had it and wont be going back. Forget The Shed, Ill go to Village Inn. VI wont blame me or punish me for their mistakes. At the Shed (I hate the name too) their *processes* are inefficient, their training is poor and theres no accountability. Few of the servers will run each others food meaning your stuff can sit in the window getting cold. This is the rub. I hate cold food. If you order eggs, they will never be more than tepid. TEPID, barely lukewarm. If youre seated ten or fifteen feet from the window, there is no excuse for this. I have actually gotten up from my seat to make a move to grab my food that was sitting in the window for 3 minutes (I counted) getting cold. Then they got excited but they still had to find "my" waitress to bring it to me. How stupid is that? I didnt go for six months after that incident. It could be that theyre using cold plates and the food is whats heating the plate (plus a little time under the heat lamp to quasi melt the cheese) but if you go, dont be stupid and complain. No no. If you are so stupid as I was to have complained, you will be punished. Accordingly, Ive asked they give the plate a quick thirty second tweak in the microwave but no, they wont do that. No. Theyll take the plate and remake it (it often comes out cold the second time because AGAIN, it has sat in the window) OR, they will Zap the thing but either way, the goal is to punish you and they will make darn sure that anyone youre eating with has already finished their meal before youll get yours. Last Sunday, I waited 9 minutes to get my zapped plate back. The most it should have taken was one minute. If you complain at The Shed, you go at the end of the queue with all the recently seated customers. If youre "lucky", youll get a little mouth from the bald guy on duty too, wholl tell you the foods cold because theyre "really busy". They werent just then. Regardless, there was staff hanging around the window waiting for their food, they could have run ours. Any manager who tolerates this doesnt deserve a job. Period. There is definitely a problem with training which is a reflection of the ownership and management. My husband points out that the servers are trained to be a representative of the company rather than an advocate of the customer. The servers first priority is to fill the customers needs, rather than adopting a defensive posture for the company. Similarly, managements response is usually, "how can I convince you youre wrong?", not "how can I make this right?"

If you would like to pay prices about 2/3 above the local norm, for food that is poorly prepared renditions of the original menu that was pretty good years ago, and sit waiting while adolescent waiters walk around staring at each other instead of paying attention to customers, because the management is utterly without a clue about service, then by all means you will love the Shed. Well, that is if its open when you go. They constantly change their schedule, so you are likely to find it closed when you go. Seems they cant make a going restaurant, its rarely busy, a real loser place. And its because of the management. Overpriced mediocre fare served by blissfully absent untrained adolescents. But whatever you do, dont "suggest" any improvements to management. They are sure they know more than their customers about how to run a restaurant and are pretty huffy about it. Wonder how much longer the doors will stay open?

This place is truly a gem. A real diamond in the rough. If you want real food made from scratch, eat anything on this menu. The fish tacos and carne plates are so flavorful. The pesto sauce on the green eggs and ham is just as good as the beautiful quiche/fresh fruit plate. One pancake is large and tasty enough to fill my grown man husband. We go almost every Saturday as a ritual (cheap mimosas). The servers know us and the baked goods greet us as we walk in. Be ready for a 10-20 minute wait though, because this place can be packed because its so delicious and famous here. Its worth the wait! Almost no restaurants in Las Cruces can match this quality, consistency, and freshness.

Deliciousness! Charming place with an under the sea theme. Not sure why it is called The Shed. Had my benedict xmas style - one with hatch green chili hollandaise and one with red. Perfectly prepared, just the right amount of hardness of egg, and potatoes fried just right. Plenty of sauce! Coffee was good too! Indoor and outdoor seating. Friendly wait staff! If you have to wait for a table, its ok - itll be worth it!

Come for the eggs Benedict! Seriously amazing, and they always have several specials on the menu - today I got the corned beef Benedict. The eggs are poached absolutely perfectly, and their green chili hollandaise is to die for. We split their french brie delight for dessert - be warned, while it is good, it is surprisingly not sweet. It is very reminiscent of a brie cheese platter.

Whenever I travel through Las Cruces I make a point of stopping at The Shed. The food is as tasty as it is beautiful. I had the blue corn tortilla "Mexican style fish Tacos." Visually gorgeous and soo flavorful. I live in Arizona and have planned my road trips around the Sheds hours of operation. The staff is friendly and the food is prepared with love. True New Mexican fare.

Nice place with outdoor seating, serving a mixture of Mexican, New Mexican and American cuisine. This place usually gets packed pretty quick, so get there just when they open, or between standard meal times. There are a few too many tables, giving the place a cramped feeling, even on the patio; though, the food is good enough to make you quickly forget about that.

I love this place. Great place for breakfast. Highly recommend the smothered breakfast burrito. Try to get there as early as possible. This place will fill up with patrons. On Sundays, try to beat the church crowd, otherwise you will be waiting 20 minutes for a table. Professional chefs work at this place and they use high quality ingredients.
