Found this place on Yelp while on the road and figured I would give it a try. I ordered a half roasted chicken with two sides, and a cup of soup. I didnt know the meal came with a salad bar, but it was a nice touch. Salad bar had a nice selection and it was fresh and full. Pea soup was very tasty. Now the bad part. My roast chicken was presented to me along with my carrots and baked potato (these two sides were actually quite good). I immediately noticed that the chicken did not look right. Heck, anybody could have seen that it didnt look right. It was extremely hot and had the look of being over-microwaved. The skin appeared to be nuked to oblivion and the drumstick and wing were cooked to a point where they were totally dried out and stringy from the microwave. When I put a fork to the chicken to separate the drumstick from the body it hit me. The smell was horrible. It was a combination of being over-microwaved and being on the verge of being spoiled. I still have the smell in my nose. I pushed the chicken aside and ate the potato and carrots. When asked, I informed my waitress of the above and she said she could smell the chicken from her side if the counter. She quickly offered a replacement, but I refused, due to the fact that the salad bar, soup and sides filling me up. I saw her talking to her boss for a moment or two and she returned to tell me she deducted the chicken from the bill. However, after looking at the check, the "free" salad bar was added to the bill, which I thought was pretty lame. When I paid the bill, the boss gave me a stock-sounding apology while handing me my change. I did not expect them to give me a free meal, but discounting me only $5.00 and charging for the free salad bar was poor customer serve IMHO. I gave my very capable, friendly and apologetic waitress a 50% tip and put the Huck Finn Diner in my rear view mirror.

Far and away one of the very best diners in North Jersey. Period. Just that good. No, I dont work for the owners, just a town resident, like anyone else, looking for good food at decent prices. This is it, in spades. Negative reviews here are ridiculous. I have always had great service there. Yeah, maybe one or two waitresses arent all "bubbles" when they serve you, but I have NEVER had one that wasnt professional and didnt do a good job. I have never encountered another diner that does better. Negative reviews either come from folks who just like to mess around online, or maybe some competitor. Place is also open early, stays open late. Has a liquor license too. Now has a salad bar, which is excellent. A lot like the Charlie Browns restaurants used to have. Less variety than those, but quality is even better. Also, dinner portions are HUGE. So, take the listed price of meals and cut that in half...because you are going to get at least 2 meals from each dinner.

My favorite diner ever. I used to go to the Mark Twain on the other end of Morris, but after renovations their food is not the same. I have never had a single problem in the Huck Finn. Their prices are crazy good in comparison to the portion sizes, and everything is out and on the table in a heart beat. Not only is their wait staff so friendly and helpful, but even on a night Im not dining in I feel so welcomed. Almost every Sunday night Im placing a take-out order when I get off of work starving. Dawn is the woman who always take my order and she is one of the sweetest people there. I love the disco fries with mozzarella cheese, chocolate chip pancakes, and especially a turkey sandwich on rye. I have ordered numerous items off the menu and have never been disappointed. This is my diner of choice every time. Hell, I was there three days in a row just last week!

***Update*** My mother-in-law went in this past weekend with my wife and got a piece of plastic at least 3/4" and semi-solid in her wrap. Luckily she spotted it before she bit it. Been coming to this diner for easily 10+ years at this point, mostly out of convenience at this point. Food has had its ups and downs depending on the cooks however, the service is awful. Its either they are totally disinterested in helping you or just dont come to your table at all. In recent memory, I had to get the manager a few times to find someone. On our most recent journey, the busser saw us sitting with no help and he got the manager. Go across town to Mark Twain if possible.

If you want the New Joizey dinner experience, this is good place to have it. Good food, generous portions, and quirky entertaining waitpersons that each have their own style and flair. Miguel is gracious and makes the best salads. Brenda will often bring your food with a song or poem if you say the right things. And there are many more surprises to the wait staff, but no surprises in the food - it is consistently good.

I recommend their burgers and pasta. Its just lovely! One of my favourite diners in New Jersey. Its very neat and relaxed. My only bad experience there was when I went with a group of friends and forgot to ask for separate checks, the lady was ticked at us for making a line and making her rewrite separate checks. But besides that, youd become a regular here. Try their waffles as well! And get a nice, comfy booth (:

Extremely average diner with rude staff. Only ever go to this place out of necessity of everything else being closed, never for the sub par food. Prices are absolutely ridiculous ($16 for cheese ravioli which consists of 4 pieces of food????). With the exception of one waitress who always seems to always be there, the entire staff is filled with some of the most rude and emotionless people.

Showed up at Huck Finn Diner one Saturday morning around 11 and requested breakfast. The service was prompt and pretty much OK. The managers were sure to make sure we had good service. The food was typical diner foot so what we got was delivered with a smile and we had no complaints. If you need a good meal, with fast service, then this New Jersey Diner is the one for you.

I went in here the other day & sat down at the counter. I literally was ignored by every waiter & waitress for about 25 minutes. Its not like they were busy either. They were standing around & talking amongst themselves. It was horrible service (if you can call it that) & with that said I will never be returning there. It was actually unbelievable. Very, very disappointed.

Very great food with extremely friendly staff. I always ask for Monita and leave a pretty hefty tip for her, shes been taking my orders for the past few months and and shes pretty good. The food there is great as well as the carrot cake, a must have if you go there! I tried the Chicken Parm and it was cooked to perfection. I love this place!

From the entrance to the seatings the place gives you the air of a good neighborhood spot where families friends and coworkers can go to to enjoy a nice lunch or diner meal. Their menu is loaded with options, many burgers, salads, pastas, and more selections. Pricing is good enough to keep a good party on a budget.
