If I could give negative reviews, I would !!! This place LIES and CHEATS you, buyer beware !! I bought a Groupon a while ago and it was going to expire in a week or two so we went today and from the start, they were antagonistic towards us. We could only guess that this was due to the Groupon. They would only let us order from the lunch menu not the regular menu. The Groupon specifically said , 2 beverages with the only exception being the Thai Iced Tea, however, the liars had already taken away the printed Groupon and insisted that the Groupon said only sodas were allowed, which it clearly did not say that, I double checked when I got home on my Groupon account. Okay, so instead of getting one of the other $3 beverages that we wanted we choose the $2 sodas. Next, I knew before going there because of helpful online reviews that this place adds an automatic gratuity even to tables of 2. Their menu also stated that tables of 2-5 would be charged 15% and tables of 6+ would be charged 18%, this will become important in my story in a minute. Next, they rushed us and rushed us, breathing down our neck every 30 seconds. Finally, they brought us the check minutes before bringing us our dessert which was part of the Groupon deal and when we reminded them that we still had to get our dessert, they gave us an attitude. By now, I was pretty upset by their rude and lying attitude towards us and couldnt wait to finish and get the heck out of there. Then came the salt in the wound . . . they charged us for the dessert which was included in the Groupon and when we pointed it out to them tried to argue with us. I was so upset at them trying to cheat us over the dessert that I didnt notice that they had charged us not 15%, not 18% but rather 20% gratuity. By the time, I noticed that they had CHEATED us yet again on the gratuity, I was so near tears that we just paid and left. I will be telling EVERYBODY who I know or will listen online about this place and the fact that they are LIARS and CHEATS !!!! My husband and I spend about $150 every week on eating out, between lunches and our weekly dinner dates and Nanking will NOT be a place we will return. I am even wondering if I can report them to the BBB for this sort of lying and cheating or even the cops, I just cannot believe that places like this exist. Once again, buyer beware.

food was good but why hated? here is the answer. as soon as we entered, i bumped into a chair next to our table. i requested if i can get the corner table. he said no mam, it is reserved. Hello ?? i also made a reservation. well, there were so many groups that they had rearranged tables but it made it clustered. not enough space to pass by. Manager needs to learn how to talk to customers. the worst part, they do not serve Thai curries with Jasmine rice. you have to order separately. prices are sky high and quantity compared to it is too little. we asked oh you do not serve Thai curry with rice, what should we eat the curry with? he said order extra rice.he talked to us very angrily when we asked about the rice with Thai curry. We suggested him go to a Thai restaurant before you serve Thai food, he said we are a la carte restaurant and we do things as we want. we dont care what others do. this is literally rude. Service was worst for which we paid 20% gratuity for the worst service. 4 different waiters came to ask if they could take the plates, and we individually explained that we ordered some more appetizers. when main course arrived, no one bothered to change the plates. water was at the room temperature. they were literally around the table, no privacy. Overall taste of the food was good, but even the $120 food between 4+2 was not enough. ( 1 kid is 3 and 1 is 7). I would prefer take out Chinese food over nanking.

Nanking has gone from bad to worse. I gave this restaurant a chance not once, but 3 times, and the food, service and management were equally bad. The last time I went, the following happened: 1) The Service was mediocre, and they took extremely long to bring out the food, when the place was relatively empty. 2) The food was OK 3) They forced a Tip of 15% for two people 4) When the bill came to above 20 bucks, they refused to take two credit cards, claiming that no one accepts credit cards for such a low amount, which is an absolute lie. Even my local farmers market accepts credit cards below 5 bucks. 5) They insisted we pay cash. 6) Their manager, he was partially bald, with curly hair, and a mustache is absolutely rude. His tone was pretty demeaning. There are much better Indo-Chinese restaurants out there, and definitely more authentic Chinese, or Thai restaurants too, which apparently they claim to serve.

We went to this restaurant few months back with kids. Person who is receiving the customers do not know how to behave. When we went, restaurant is half empty and we are given seat next to kitchen. I requested for a seat change and to my surprise I was told that all the seats are reserved. We can clearly see that the "reserved" tag is not present on many tables. Reading other reviews, I see that others had terrible experience similar to mine. Waiter for our table itself is fine and food is OK. I would appreciate an honest answer on why they could not give us empty seat other than some thing at the corner next to kitchen. Not sure what his problem is. We are not going there again. Not recommended.

Horrible experience. We made a visit last week for dinner in weekday. Service was terribly slow and it took average 35-40 min for them to serve each dish. Quantity doesnt match with the price and value for money is nil. Taste is ok but nothing extra ordinary or awesome. Overall it was a very bad experience and I am not going there anytime soon. We ordered Nanking spl Chicken noodles and asked the waiter not to put egg in it but the dish came after 30 min with only egg and no chicken !!! Either they dont understand English or they dont pay attention what we ask for .... They charge 15% gratuity on bill plus tax so I didnt feel necessary to pay tips on top. Avoid this place as far as you can !!

Overall... Good restaurant with good service but there are many negatives to this restaurant. The prices for the food dont correspond with the quantity of the serving size they give you. You shouldnt be paying $9 for 8 pieces of paneer! Second, the soup tasted as if there was oil in it. The hot and sour soup should be called hot and oily soup. After you thought meal was overpriced and oily, you see the thank you mints placed at the counter which are soooooo cheap looking. Cheap mouth fresheners for a "high" quality restaurant... Doesnt seem right! Next time I have a craving for Indo-Chinese, I will take my appetite elsewhere to where it can be satisfied, like at Ming in Edison.
