I have been to this restaurant a few times since it transitioned from Dynasty Dim Sum to Chengu 1 Palace. The first time we came we tried ordering off the menu, and were pleasantly surprised by just how great everything tasted. To put things in perspective, we had been disappointed by Dynastys menu, but loved their dim sum. The next few times we went for the roving a la carte dim sum, and it was just as good as Dynastys. The whole family enjoyed and probably ate too much. The only criticism of the dim sum would be that the servers English competency was lacking and sometimes it was hard to figure out what was in a particular dish. We had been for dim sum so often, that we forgot that we originally loved their menu options. We ended up going with my Father on a random Tuesday evening and ordering off the menu (they still have dim sum, but made to order only). My son had the Tangerine Chicken and loved it. It was flavorful and just spicy enough for his taste. They made a special vegetable dish for my kids when we told them they loved carrots and baby corn (they sauteed it in a brown sauce). I had a spicy Szechuan Chicken dish with white meat chicken that was one of the most flavorful Ive ever had. Not quite as much Szechuan pepper as Ive had in China, but there was definitely a hit of its tongue numbing power. Everyone absolutely enjoyed all courses of the meal, and we kept asking ourselves why we hadnt ordered off the menu in so long. We will definitely be back, and I encourage you to try it.

We are Californians from San Francisco. As you can imagine, our standards for Chinese food are pretty high. Chengdu #1 was recommended by some fellow transplants (Chinese). I had lunch there with friends and it was decent food- not amazing. My family and I went a week or two later for dinner and ordered Mongolian Beef, Tangerine Beef, and Chow Fun. The tangerine beef was wonderful- crisp, a little spicy, very flavorful. The Mongolian beef was really NOT good- very sweet and not spicy. This was a huge disappointment as we are used to spicy (and not sweet) Mongolian beef. The chow fun was better than average, not amazing but I would order it again (mostly because I love rice noodles). Prices are not cheap (certainly more than wed pay in SF) but for this area, they seem to be in line.

As a picky chinese food eater that came from a picky chinese food eating chinese family, this place is awesome. Over 30 picky chinese food eater we have brought here has been impressed, and even our older family members are willing to drive 2 hours eat here. There is a serious lack of quality chinese food in NJ, and this restaurant is one of a handful that fills that gap. Recognize that this is a szechuan restaurant, so dont order hunan or shanghai foods. Spicy foods dominate the menu, and do not be afraid to order whats written in Chinese posted on the walls because those are the authentic foods.

This is such a fantastic place--I only order take-way and the staff are fantastic. Ordering over the phone is really straightforward, and my order is always ready by the time I get there. The food is wonderful! The vegetables in each dish are generous portions and not overcooked; the meat is tender, and noting I order is too salty. So easy to get tasty and healthy food here. The outside of the restaurant is somewhat grungy, but this only adds to its aura and the feeling that youve stumbled upon something really special once you walk through the doors.

This is authentic Chinese food, like restaurants in Flushing or Chinatown, not a typical American-style take out restaurant. They have gourmet dishes, including ones that are usually served at Chinese weddings. The walnut shrimp is amazing and their soups are not too salty and with a pleasant taste. They have good deals for lunch specials and dining in during dim-sum hours is great. Take out is usually fast and very precise. I highly recommend this place.

Fantastic place - authentic. Quick lunch overordered - plates with tender pork in garlic sauce with snowpeas & sauteed stringbeans with chicken - all done perfectly. Shrimp deepfried in taro basket with corn meal overtones; a cold spicy dish of small, delicate squid with julienned celery. Hot and sour soup not a favorite, kinda mass market. Leftovers, including spring rolls, will make a great dinner.

Not good. Would not recommend. 1. Went at lunch time. No one to greet you. Waited 10 minutes until waitress sat us. 2. Menus in Chinese. Server didnt want to translate. So order by picture. 3. Tea cups to hot to drink from. 4. Soup broth was bland. Wonton was cold 5. Meal was covered in heavy sauce. Meal was cold. Vegetables not cooked through.

Dim sum was okay, pretty good tasting but not one of my favorite. Not sure if I would go back though, when leaving the girl at the register asked if a tip was left on the table. Offensive and rude, and when exiting all the dim sum containers that your food is served on was outside on the ground in stacks not in a dish rack. Yuck!

Dim sum wasnt good. The dim sum was cold when they put it on our table from the cart. Place is also pricey. Not authentic Szechuan as they say. Its more Cantonese than Szechuan. Their dishes are okay. Place looks like a Chinese version of an American Diner. The service is less than decent when its packed.

Super salty and whomever answers the phone doesnt understand. Forget about telling them your address for delivery, I was on the phone 10 minutes with someone who was trying to get my address, then they put someone on who understands and she told me they dont do sushi anymore.

Really good food, though I was there on Chinese New year and the service was terrible. The service is probably better when its not a major Chinese holiday but I dont know for sure, I only went there once. Really good food though, Id give it another shot.

Service is horrible. The waitress seats you and forgets about you, you actually have to flag her down in order to place your order. Then, they bring you the wrong items and they take even longer to bring you the bill.

Food had a very clean taste to it. Not that heavy oily taste. Overall food was great. I give food 5 stars. Service was a tad slow. But definitely will be going back regardless of slow service. (hence 4 star rating)

Authentic Sichuan place. The waiters as usual in a Chinese restaurant try to hurry you up, but thats part of the authenticity of this place. Great food, so so beer, hurry up and close out service.

Used to be the old Dynasty dim sum restaurant. The Chendu 1 redo is significantly better in all aspects: taste, service and price. It is a very welcoming experience. Recommended.

Recently changed and with incredibly authentic food. Great quality goods portions and when the majority of the clients are Chinese, you know you may have a good restaurant.

The food was good, service was good. Now, they serve Dim Sum over weekend but I dont think its only OK to me. Their Sichuan food was pretty good. A bit pricey tho...
