Top Quality Indian Restaurant in an unlikely location - Nestled away in the Madison Plaza with Staples, the bowling lanes and a pizzeria, the won’t find Begum Palace unless you are looking for it, but if you like Indian food, or would like to try it, look for it you should. My wife and I have been visiting it periodically over the years – we used to consider it a worthy “local” but would go into NYC for the best Indian food. We don’t find the need for the latter any more – in our opinion the quality of the food at Begum’s has consistently improved to the highest level. The ambience is pleasant and the staff friendly and helpful. The buffets are popular with many regular patrons – frankly, I am not a fan of buffets in general, and always order from the menu. Favorites are the lamb vindaloo (the quality of the lamb is excellent – order this dish spicy), saag paneer and chana masala. We prefer plain bread (naan, roti and paratha) with this rich food, together with balancing raita, and the tangy achar, which tastes home made. One added bonus – take your own wine and beer – we find the floral torrontes white wine and kingfisher beer (if you can find it) compliment the food well. Begum Palace has become busier over the years – deservedly so, as the word spreads around. I hope they will continue their fine and consistent service for many years to come.

Indian food is on the top of our dinning list which means we are often in Edison to get the "real deal." To our delight, Madison now has a first rate Indian restaurant just blocks from the town center. The owners and staff are attentive, very friendly and they truly give you the impression they are delighted to host you. The food we enjoyed, Tandoori mix grill, several Masala dishes and some veggie sides were all very well prepared, great flavors, without being over powering. Everything was done to a high standard and as authentic as you can get state side. We highly recommend Begum and when you leave you will be pleasantly surprised when you see the check. Plenty of food for a reasonable price! One other tip, stop next door at the liquor store and pick up an Indian wine (yes, India has some fantastic reds) Enjoy! We will definitely be back.

Was a fan.Their food is often good; but not uniformly so; some bad experiences with it have occurred in my circles, in terms of upset stomachs. One could put that down to coincidence though. The reason for further discouragement though- it used to be the case that they would include a serving of rice with all entrees ordered. A recent policy change apparently is that this holds only for non vegetarian orders. So now, if ordering a la carte, as of the last week or so, with vegetarian entrees, you get to buy the rice. Besides the stock repertoire of vegetable dishes, they seem to not encourage customers with vegetarian preferences as their specials also ignore vegetarian options. An anti vegetarian bias, alas. Pity as they could do so much better.Little things count.

This place is absolutely incredible. 1. Sunil, the owner, is so personable and spends so much time to make sure everyone is happy and the food is perfect. You rarely find that at Indian restaurants. Such a lovely and jovial personality. 2. The food is as good as you will ever get in NJ. Period! Scrumptious, full of fresh ground spices (yes they make their spices in house), amazing flavor! Its really hard to find Charcoal Tandoori Roti that is soft and fluffy. Most of the time its hard and crispy. Appetizers and entrees were unbelievable. Everything down to the condiments were simply delicious! This is now our choice of place on Indian food!! Just incredible.

I am usually lazy in posting reviews but this place just stands out. Of the numerous indian buffets i have been to, this place is definitely one of the best. I thoroughly enjoyed the saag paneer, tandoori chicken and chicken tikka masala. The naan was so fresh and crisp - it is hard to get something so non chewy like that! Dessert - kheer was so creamy and delicious. The owners are exceptional - havent seen anyone take care of their guests like that! So similar to how we host guests at our home !!! We also got a free tasting of their homemade hot sauce and masoor dal. Definitely recommend. Go there and enjoy - not only the food but also the exceptional hospitality!!

Once we found this gem, we ordered pick up and realized we had found the best Indian cuisine restaurant around! Last night, my husband and I had a long overdue date night and knew exactly where we wanted to go for an amazing dinner- Begum Palace! The restaurant was crowded in the best way possible- with a great vibe and lots of happy smiles! We didnt have to wait at all for a table and were seated immediately! Sonny, the owner, came out right away to greet us! He and his staff are the warmest and most welcoming people you will ever encounter. Third time having Begum Palaces amazing food and cant wait for our next visit- which will certainly be very soon!

Wow....Incredible service and delicious food. I cant say enough kind words about Sunil, they proprietor. He really enjoys hosting and went above and beyond to cater to our large party. At one point, he suggested a seafood plate and, when we hesitated, he went as far as to offer it free of charge if we didnt enjoy it thoroughly. They stayed open after closing for our lingering party and he even came out to the parking lot to thank us for our tip. For those complaining about the pricing, you should keep in mind this is a BYOB in a higher income neighborhood. I think the prices are actually pretty average or below average.

This is by far the best Indian restaurant in our area. In fact, I am putting it up there amongst the best I have eaten at anywhere. Not only is the food outstanding, but the owner and his team are the best hosts you could hope for. They are always welcoming us and our guests and serve us the most amazing Indian food every time. Our whole family loves this place and will not eat Indian anywhere else. If you havent been, do yourself a favor and stop in and see Sunny and his fantastic team. You will not be disappointed and may even become a regular like many others.

We have been to Begum Palace many times in the last 6 months since we moved to this area, and it has been a wonderful experience every single time. Sunil (the owner) is so personable, and goes out of his way to ensure all guests have a good experience. Even my 4 year old son refers to Sunil as his friend, and wants to go back every weekend. The food is excellent! The menu may not be as extensive as some Indian restaurants in Manhattan, but that is probably the reason that Begum Palace can sustain their excellent quality!

I was pleasently suprised this afternoon....I had read all the reviews prior to making my decision to try this restaurant. I knew as soon as I entered I was in for a treat. How often is it that you know you are going to have a great experience before you are even seated. Every patron had delicious meals. All smiling and enjoying the food atmosphere and company. My lunch was delicious and very affordable. I highly reccomend this GREAT resturant and will be returning. Thank you.
