Our salads were good, veal parm not bad, portions were large, decor was pleasant - thats the good news. Now for the bad. Though the restaurant was pretty empty- it was around 5pm - our waitress was impatient when we took a few extra minutes to order, did not smile, ask if everything was all right, did we need anything else etc, was busy in the kitchen so couldnt find her most of the time. This is annoying but it happens- heres the really bad part: I had to complain to the manager when I killed 3 flies and 2 gnats - before our meals arrived! The people in the adjacent booth were grateful for my extermination efforts. Eventually the manager did leave the front counter where he was chatting with a worker and come to the table - after I killed 2 more flies and showed them to another waitress who was the only person genuinely concerned about the situation. The manager told me they had a company come out every week, then proceeded to spray bug spray around the empty booths on either side of us while the 3 of us were still eating! After that I couldnt get out of there fast enough. The managers way of apologizing was to take $3 off of our $63 bill -!!!- I was too disgusted to complain any more so I paid it and left, which I regret but as I said I wanted out of there asap. I sincerely hope they take care of the bug issue, but more importantly their attitude problem.

Dont go here! Took my grandmom out for her birthday it was kind of late and she didnt want to go anywhere far. Not the biggest diner fan but I figured Id give it a try. So my grandmom orders an omelette, I order boneless wings and a wedge which was my biggest mistake. Wedge salald comes out and at first it looks pretty good as I begin to cut into it I notice a hair on the lettuce that is now on my fork. I immediately drop it and look for my waitress. When I show her what my problem is and I show her the fork she looks at me like I have three heads and says nothing. She tries to offer me another one but I decline and politely ask for the check. I didnt want to take the other food but unfortunately they were very rude and pushy and said I had no choice but to pay for it since it was already cooked. Not wanting to cause an even bigger scene and since it was only 20 dollars I payed and left without leaving a tip. Needless to say I will not be going back.

I would go to this place weekly and for special family get togethers. We always had Liz as are server. I stopped in the other day for lunch and found out the owners (FOOLS) had fired her!!! She was the Best Server this place had hands down. The others just walk around like they are lost. And all Mgmt wants to do is hang by the cash register or walk around with papers in their hands acting like they are doing something important. I will Never go back, You folks not only lost your Best Server, but also the 35 people we would bring in for Holiday Breakfasts! Not to mention the 5000 Facebook friends, 89,756 Twitter followers and a local weekly email that goes out to 35,000 area residences! I will be telling all of them about this. Hope I get a chance to see her one day I would love to know what a loyal employee of (20 yrs or more, I think) did that she deserved to be Fired!!

Just arrived home from there. I ordered Virginia Bake ham and got breakfast ham steak. The ham was rubber as microwaved in the package it came in. I asked the waitress to have is grilled well and it came back greasy and gross wet and not cooked. I brought it home to wash and cook myself. I talk to the guy short manager (Nic) with the glasses on that I have to take my food home to cook and the waitress was not attentive. Nic responds was to laughed as if it did not matter. Today is the last day I will be going to Penn Queen. The waitress nor the manager did not care about us. She did not check on us and never refilled the coffee. I rather give my money to franchise company than to step into that place again.

My family and I visit Penn Queen between one and four times a month. The food is good, great portions, better prices for homemade food. Their soups are delicious especially the cream of turkey & cream of chicken. The waiters and waitresses are courteous and attentive personable people. The only reason I didnt give 5 stars is a few times Ive gotten food room temperature. Yes I understand waiting for the entire tables order, I also understand if what I ordered is fastest then cook it last. I dont like to complain or be that customer yet when Ive asked they will heat it in microwave. Great place to eat youll see why its been voted best diner in South Jersey many years in a row.

Best diner food in the area. I have been to many diners (in Philly and New Jersey) in a 40 yr time period. None of them compare to The Penn Queen Diner. The atmosphere, hospitality and exceptional wait staff, make this the place to go for all of youre dining needs. If you need a place to host a gathering for any reason, they definitely can accommodate. If you are interested in hosting a group dining experience, be sure to book your reservations today, as they have parties booked in advance all year long. Exceptional food, exceptional staff and exceptional servers. You will not be disappointed!

I have been going to Penn Queen for over 40 years. Me and the family stopped in atleast once a week. It was great, that is until the father who ran it retired. Since then the owners sons took over and the diner has gone downhill although the son Nick is a nice guy is brother can be nasty to deal with. If the slop food wasnt enough, the host Manny is terrible. He has a terrible attitude and insults customers. What a shame it is to see a great diner going downhill. Hopefully the sons can turn it around.

I use to come here a lot when I was a kid and lived in the area. First time back since then. The food was pretty good. The waitresses were very good. The ambiance is much better than it was when I was a kid. But I agree with one of the other critics...the manager/owner seemed a bit cold. I went to school with a family member who I hadnt seen since 4th grade. I mentioned that but he didnt seem to care one way or the other. He was more interested in why I hadnt been back in so long. What a shame.

Being from upstate NY, diners are usually basic and bland. This place was wonderful. I loved the South Jersey feel of it. My wife had grilled cheese and tomato soup which she enjoyed. I cant believe I ordered shrimp parm from a diner but I swear, it was the best I ever had. Huge (yuuuge) butterfly shrimp, not breaded but baked into a sauce which was also outstanding. Definitely a winner.
