PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE HORROR STORY. The service was horrible. We were seated for about 20 minutes before someone took our drink orders. It was about another 20 minutes before they came back to take our food orders. We ordered 2 appetizers and each ordered a Hibachi meal. 15 minutes later, we were lucky enough to catch someone in this time period to get refills on our drinks. It was about another 40 minutes before the chef came over to cook our food. The show was OK, others there had their chefs put on a much better show. We were hoping the kids would catch food in their mouths but he never offered that to anyone. Unlike the Hibachi places where the chef stays there and cooks your entire order, he was there to cook the main dish and left. One of our appetizers never showed up. 25 minutes after the food was cooked, we got refills again because someone from another party at out table got up and chased someone down for their refills. When the bill came, the appetizer that never showed up was on the bill. The server who brought the bill was one of the servers that we had at our table. He got a manager who apologized and told us that the appetizer was made and nobody brought it out to us. They took the appetizer off the bill and offered to give it ti us but who wants cold calamari? We were there for well over 2 hours and it was not busy. Half of the restaurant was empty and most of our time was spent waiting on service. Make sure you look at the receipt. They added 18% gratuity because we used a Groupon, we were a party of 5. WE WILL NOT BE GOING BACK!!!

The first time I was here, I walked in and NO ONE was in the restaurant. I printed a groupon and drove far from work to come enjoy lunch so I wasnt leaving. I even called from inside the restaurant 3 times. 25 minutes later someone finally showed up...they were all late they claimed. Second time here (today) I printed another groupon and decided to give them another shot. MISTAKE. They have the options of ordering online. I ordered online for PICK UP.. they make it so you have to put in your address even if its pick up. Well I get there and they sent it to my apartment! I only get an hour lunch, I am 20 minutes from Takara. So I had to wait for all of my food to be made again. Then they tell me you cant do a pick up with groupon. Luckily the kid working the front saw my frustration and because of the inconvenience he let me pick it up. He did try to say that you had to spend $37 in order for a pick up, but the groupon was $30 for paying $15. Something is seriously wrong with this place. I dont know how they are still in business. Did not like the kani salad, very bland and too much cucumber. The miso soup is not good. The sushi is ok.. however the fire ball sushi app was amazing. thats the only reason they received two stars. please spare yourself and go to Osaka in Bradley beach, kotto in Belmar, or the best SUMO in Wall, NJ.

We had a hibachi dinner and were the only ones at the table, so Im quite confused how our meals got so screwed up. We never recieved soup or salad. The hibachi meal was great, but our kitchen appetizer didnt arrive until after he finished cooking our meal. It came late and with the wrong sauce on it. Usually spicy rock shrimp has a creamy spicy sauce, this was a sweet Thai chili sauce. Tasty but not what I ordered!! When I brought to their attention that they forgot the soup, salad, and brought the wrong appetizer, they sent the cook to explain that he mixes the two sauces together for more flavor lol. Sounds like he just ran out of the right one to me. Disappointed, we skipped my favorite fried ice cream, and asked for boxes and the check. The bill comes and nothing was deducted, nor did a manager approach to resolve the issue!!! We paid and tipped well, but we wont be back. ☹️

There was a Groupon, so we decided to try Takara. The food was absolutely excellent, but the service was atrocious. We were seated over 30 minutes before anyone even came by to take our drink order. However, the baby octopus was delicious and the "Hibachi for two" was a perfect choice for date night. Our hibachi chef was entertaining and had some amazing knife skills and all of the food turned out delicious. Our waitress wanted me to shout my food order to her from across the table. So its kind of like 6 of one, half a dozen of the other. The food is great, provided you dont mind waiting AWHILE to get it (and have crappy service from the servers, but not the chef, he rocked).

Hands down the best sushi at the jersey shore. The fish is so fresh that I might as well be swimming with the fishies:) The service is excellent and the drinks compliment the food perfectly;) I recommend this restaurant to all my friends when they ask about a great place to dine around here. Takara makes you feel at home with a friendly staff. The cozy asian decor tops off my five star review along with the fact they are one of the only hibachi restaurants that will let you eat hibachi in the dining room, party room, or even in their authentic japanese tatami rooms!! Great place to bring a date <3 Takara Japanse Steak House is a true hidden gem. Cant wait to go back!!!

First time at takara this weekend and it was great! As soon as I entered I was blown away by the interior decor. Service was very friendly and knowledgeable. Our hibachi chef, Jimmy, put on a great show for my kids and everybody loved him. The fireball appetizer was probably the best thing I have ever eaten, my wife had the NY steak hibachi which was delicious. We also split 2 rolls, the black angel roll and a chef specialty roll of lucifer. They were both fresh and extremely scrumptious. I will definitely be coming back, seeing as how I havent stopped thinking about their food since I left. Cheers!

They add about 20% gratuity and then you get the bill back after the credit card transaction and it has the TIP line blank so I think the last time we were there we gave them a 40% gratuity because we had a couple of people and only 1 was putting it on his card and its very specifically designed to trick you. Thats annoying enough that I will NEVER go back, thats so rude. If you dont mind that they are more expensive than everywhere else in a 5 mile range, the Mango special roll was good.

The Food is Pretty Good, but the service is poor. I also agree with other reviews that they add the tip in discreetly and have another tip line on the Credit Card receipt. My wife and I took our niece and boyfriend out the other day. We were the only four people in the place and they added a 18% tip. I almost double tipped as well. This was my 2nd time there and probably my last due to the added tip. They also made us order off the dinner menu at 12 in the afternoon.
