Beautiful restaurant, wonderful food, amazing staff/ownership. My family is originally from New Jersey where my grandfather is buried, but now we live in Maryland, and when my grandmother passed I was in charge of finding a restaurant for a reception in the New Vernon/Morristown area. My cousin recommended I look into Market Taverne and one other place. After calling Market Taverne, I never even bothered calling the other restaurant and I am happy I didnt waste my time talking to them. I called to inquire about the reception on a Thursday and spoke with the owner, Keith. He was very understanding that there was much uncertainty regarding the date and number of people to expect. After all, my grandmother hadnt passed away yet and its not like you can ask for RSVPs to a funeral reception. He immediately e-mailed me the options for a reception with a price for each. We decided on the Lunch Buffet with flatiron chicken, flank steak and salmon. After my grandmother passed on Friday night/Saturday, her service in New Jersey was scheduled for Thursday. With Market Taverne closed on Mondays I spoke with the events director, Maryann on Tuesday. She handled all of the details efficiently and was a pleasure to work with, especially given only 48 hours notice of a reception for 45 people. The food was ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL and we received many, many compliments. Sometimes with a buffet you can tell the meat is pre-cooked and just kept warm, and it gets dry and tough. Not here. All of the meat tasted freshly cooked, still steaming and was incredibly juicy and done to perfection. I didnt hear a single person there have anything to say except for complimenting the food. Delicious. The service was great, there was never an empty tray of food in the buffet and Maryann even went around to notify all the tables when a fresh batch came out of the kitchen for people to have seconds (or thirds). Once underway, I dont think anyone had an empty glass unless it was their choice, and our tables were kept clean of used dishes. The staff was very understanding when my mother (daughter of the deceased) lingered after the event talking with family, and was slow to head out. They were very diplomatic and sensitive in expressing that they were almost done cleaning up...except for the one remaining table, and welcomed us to a table downstairs or at the bar. While 3 hours is a bit far for me to drive for a restaurant, whenever I am in the area I will most certainly head over to Market Taverne and recommend them to anyone in the area.

The food was not good, it tasted like there wasnt any seasoning on anything. We went for the brunch and we had the duck hash which wasnt good (has no seasoning), the huevos rancheros wasnt good (it was just eggs on top of a corn tortilla with some beans and pico de gallo-NO SAUCE), the steak and eggs (which says on the menu that its marinated, well they mustve marinated it in water and there was no salt or pepper on it) and a cheeseburger (which was ok, a little over cooked-fries were good though). The ONLY reason I gave it 2 stars is because their mimosas were $1-which is awesome. And their bloody marys were really good as well. The service was really good and our waiter was awesome. However, would not go back here, unless it was purely for drinks.

I absolutely love this place! It seems that google has pulled all the bad reviews from other sites for their page - what a shame! The food is cooked to order, the service is friendly and attentive and if youre looking for a low cost dining experience, try a diner or fast food place. Market has high-end food that is more than worth the price! Nothing better than brunch at Market - skillet french toast, quiche, duck hash and many other items not found anywhere else. The lunch menu has a range or salads to full entrees and the burger menu options are a great value! The worst part of the dinner menu is the options - too many wonderful choices!

I went to Market Restaurant last week and I must say, it was the most inventive atmosphere of any venue in the entire area. It is a glimpse outside of the usual old world mom & pop restaurant atmosphere plaguing the morristown/bernardsville/far hills area and the contemporary flare of the bar area adds an inviting, yet chic element to the dining experience. As for the cuisine, I could not be more impressed. Its American comfort food with a twist. The head chef must be part unicorn, because the flavor I experienced when eating my beet carpaccio and perfectly braised pork belly actually made me smile. Dont miss this place. They are killing it!

We went to the Market for brunch with kids. We never got menus and had to ask repeatedly for some. Then we got menus and asked for kids menus and they never came, so we had to ask someone else. Eventually we were able to order and over an hour and a half later our food was still not there. The owner walked by several, several times and not once even said anything to us. Eventually we got our food, the burger was way undercooked, the steak and eggs was acceptable at best, and then my kids food was taken away before they finished so after two hours we had to come home and feed our kids.

I recently met a friend at the Market Taverne for lunch and enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. The hostess and waiter were very friendly and accommodating and the owner stopped by our table to speak with us. Since neither of us had been there before, we accepted the owners offer of a quick tour and were very impressed with the various dining rooms which each had their own personality. We only had a light lunch but the soup, appetizer and salad we ordered were all delicious. I definitely plan on going back to try other items on their menu.

With an 8PM reservation, we were seated about 20 minutes late. We were waited on by 4 or 5 waiters. The wine service took forever with us needing to ask the host and he delivered the bottle (with 4 glasses, but only 2 were drinking red). He was not arate of the glass of Sav Blank that was ordered. The apps arrived without a hitch but the entrees were anither story. Before receiving our entrees, the table was being cleared of bread plates and silverware and we were presented with dessert menues. Nudf said! Maybe will return in a year.

What an incredible restaurant! The service is prompt and friendly. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is great for dinner or even brunch. For dinner I started out with the special drink with fresh grapefruit juice. For my meal, I had the tavern salad for my appetizer and the griggstown chicken for dinner - both I could taste the freshness and benefit of the locally sourced food. I will definitely be back again!

My introduction was brunch today.. and it was so disappointing.. I ordered the Cobb salad, well everything on it was good but the portion was so small and I am not a big eater. I had to ask for bread so I could feel full. My bread had to be toasted, because they did not have fresh bread. Then, on my bill I was charged 2.00 for the bread. I left feeling very unsatisfied.
