Where do I start The worst experience I have ever had me and my significant other were on a very important date and as we arrived 40 minutes before the kitchen closes we approached the hostess .as we set down to our table I have ask the waitress what is her favorite appetizers from the shrimp menu as I ordered three or four appetizers I couldnt be more disappointed I mean how does the restaurant that big and have such terrible Chefs . As we ordered the oysters we were not given horseradish or Tabasco sauce . Which is not a big problem But When asking the waitress she was very rude!! even the Coke products that I requested was so doll that they have changed three drinks and then they have admitted that it was the machine that was broken even the drinks was terrible . I never write reviews this is actually my first time I was so disappointed with the food that I would never recommend anyone going there I completely understand that we are located in Somerset New Jersey but still how can the food be so bad ...and I am completely OK to spend a couple of hundred dollars on a good meal we go two to three times a week to different restaurants and I figured we tried Stage House As I mentioned it was a very important Night but we were so disappointed by all the appetizers I mean who can mess up garlic bread!!! and shrimps that I wouldnt be able to touch . I ordered a steak and I promise Applebees or any chain restaurant has serve a better steak which is just on believable. I promise I get no joy in writing this review but the service that we have received was by far the worst I have ever had in the last few years I mean possibly going there for drinks only at a certain time at night maybe you get a different experience. I always believed as I believe for my own business best complement a customer can give is their referrals but how can I ever refer anyone to you when the Food tasted Horrible not to mention we are not picky at all . Who ever is in charge or the management or the owner you should really focus on changing whos ever in charge in the kitchen . If I couldve give you guys a zero star I promise I would What a waste of a meal . Never ever had a problem to spend 200 or 300 on a good meal for me or my significant other but the terrible experience we had there will never bring us back to Stage House . Even if you guys were willing to feed my whole family I wouldnt dare to bring them there .

All times we visited, this rather large place reminded us of a really busy tourist venue with overpriced and mostly bland food and rather inattentive and indifferent wait staff. Parking is difficult to get at peak times, but there is a large parking lot nearby at the local library in 1-2 minute walking distance. As already mentioned in other reviews, parties of 5 or more should pay close attention to their bill. We always found extra beers, coffees, or other inaccuracies when visiting in a large group. The indoors area and the covered bar are very noisy. The patio is nicer. They have live music on the patio on Fri and Sat, which can make conversations difficult unless one gets seated near the entrance. The food is in the upper price range. As expected from a busy place of this size, the food is prepared with no attention to detail and with average quality ingredients. Nothing really justifies the higher prices. For example, their $12+ burgers come with a handful of fries in a plastic basket. They never were medium-rare as ordered, but rather overcooked and dry. The bun always was too dry. From 10 pm on, one very important feeling bouncer thoroughly checks the IDs of EVERYONE (including seniors), and provides a wrist band. This procedure takes forever even with a moderate line at the entrance. It feels rather nonsensical, since the place is still packed with dinner guests w/o wrist bands. I never got checked by anyone when ordering a beer without a wrist band after 10 pm. So, even if required by local law etc, the purpose of this activity remains elusive to me. One nice twist: the menu states that Stage House Tavern pays for the costs of the Uber ride home for buzzed customers. We have not used this service, and never asked about the specifics of this offer. Sadly, their free BBQ on Fridays has been discontinued. This was actually good food...

It was Fathers day and surprisingly not too crowded. I was with my nephew and his two young daughters. We sat outside on the patio/deck, which was very empty. Time was about 5:00. As the hostess was seating us, I asked that maybe we could be seated by one of the tables near a tree as there was a threat of rain. She put us out in the open, not near a tree. She gave the girls place mats to color. There were no crayons, so we asked for them. Our assigned waitress came and took our drink orders. Drinks came, delivered to the table by another server. No crayons. There were at least six other servers standing around that serving station on the patio. Someone noticed me looking at them, came over to the table and we asked a second time for the crayons. Our server came over and took our order. We ordered onion rings as an app for the table. Also ordered two hamburgers for the adults, a childs burger for one of the girls and pizza for the other. I got up with the girls And We walked over to the group of servers and again asked for crayons. They explained it was too warm to put crayons out and they would melt! One server offered pens...we accepted. Our onion rings came, but we had no small plates on the table...it was a challenge hailing some one to get them, but we eventually did. Food came in a fair amount of time. One of the girls burgers was missing. We explained this to the person who brought the food and he informed our waitress. She came over, apologized and explained it was due to a computer glitch. It took a very long time to get the burger. Not happy w this experience! Have been there many times for private parties and dinners. This was very unfortunate.

I have been going to this restaurant for many years, through a few sets of owners, and the current ones have done a great job giving it an updated, welcoming feel. The food is very good (especially the mushroom ravioli with pesto sauce!), the decor is nice, they frequently have live music in the bar area on Friday and Saturday evenings, and in the warmer months they have "free" (with donation) BBQ out on the new patio. They have a Sunday brunch, though I havent been since it is a bit expensive considering I wouldnt eat much of it (I am vegetarian). They have lunch combos that are a pretty good deal, and they run other specials, like all you can eat pasta on Mondays. For those that enjoy hearing stories, ask your server about the ghost upstairs. Some history on the building from Wikipedia: "Denyse Teunissen from the Netherlands moved from Long Island when he purchased the property in 1703. In 1723, Christian VanDoren purchased 357 acres (1.44 km2) from Teunissens. Later the property was divided into seven smaller farms, one was bought by Garrett Voorhees I for his home. His son, Garrett Voorhees II, inherited the property after his fathers death. On June 19, 1777, their home was burned by General Cornwallis during his retreat from the Somerset County Courthouse. Using the money he received from the British as compensation for his loss, he re-built what is now Colonial Farms, which housed OConnors Beef N Chowder House. In 2011 the building became the Stage House Tavern when it was sold to a new owner."
