I was surprised by this experience. I ordered shrimp and lobster sauce which I have enjoyed everywhere. First time ever that the white rice was hard and dry in a Chinese restaurant. The sauce was a mass of peas with a little tiny bit of gravy but mostly a carpet of peas. No sauce. The shrimps were small and chewy. Worst shrimp and lob sauce ever. My partner order the happy family with brown sauce and vegetables. This dish usually has beef, shrimp, scallops and chicken.. It had 2 scallops and a few stringy chicken parts. Only veggies were a mass of scallions. No sign of brown sauce. The scallops were stringy and the few chicken things were tough. We just paid the check and went to the dinner on route 10 the Brookside which is always good. Very surprised by the Hunan considering their higher than normal prices and attitude you think it would be better. Are they having issues or chef problems?

We ordered for 4 adults, 1 teen girl. Cost was over $70 for takeout. Small food containers only 1/2 full - mostly sauce, celery carrots. Very little chicken/beef. Complained about portiion size and Cathy said she was often told their portion sizes were generous. For what 2-3 ounces meat, 8 small shrimp for $14 each!! Cathy never even offered us a discount on our next order. My brother, sister and I will never order from there again. Food was only okay - ordered all spicy and nothing was spicy at all. Loyal Mr. Chu fans forever.

Yeah, you can call this restaurant the best in the area considering that there is really no other choice. Ive been working in Morris Plains for five years, and still havent found a decent place to eat where price would match the quality. I would have given this place an above average rating, if not but the seafood hot & sour soup I just odered. You cant put three tiny shrimp and call it seafood, neither should one charge almost $10 for a hot & sour soup, no matter how good it is.

I have been going to this restaurant for over four years now and have never had a bad meal. They have a great menu selection to satisfy even the pickiest of eaters. I myself am a vegetarian and they have so many tasty dishes for me to chose from that I cant go wrong. Hubby loves it too and he is a carnivore..matter of fact im picking it up on my way home today for dinner. Give it a try.. p.s everyong who works there is super sweet and very attentive to your needs. Enjoy!

Something always goes wrong. For example, got take-out last night. Ordered a shrimp dish, got home and theyd given us chicken (at shrimp prices). Last time, we called in our order to avoid the wait, came to the restaurant in 25 minutes to pick it up, and waited almost an hour while they filled take-out orders ahead of ours for people just walking in the door. Service is poor, apparently mishaps are the rule rather than the exception, and the food isnt even that good!

Fantastic food. You HAVE to try the steamed vegetable dumplings. They are so light and delicate and the sauce is so tasty you can just eat them for an entire meal. The person below who gave 1 star for slow service is nuts. I cant speak for him having bad service on that particular night, but even if that was the case you dont give a place 1 star when the food is good but you have slow service. Thats just plain unfair and shows poor reviewing skills.

This was the best tasting Chinese food I have ever had. All the meals we ordered were so flavorful and delicious. The mixed vegetables with shrimp lunch special I got had so many different veggies and mushrooms in it. The staff was very friendly and attentive. If you want a good meal and nice ambience come here! Also, huge vegetarian selection and a gluten free menu.

I agree with noreencurran about the portion sizes, but I disagree with the food rating. I think they are the best chinese food in the area. Everything is well seasoned, and usually cooked to perfection. The flavor is really what makes this place great. Sometimes flavor is worth more than portion size in my opinion.

Hit and miss. I have enjoyed their food for some years now but tonight we ordered food and the sesame chicken tasted like it was lying around all day. It was dry and rubbery in texture and tasted bit sour. We decided we will never eat there again!
