Last night I ordered a typical sized delivery order - two main dishes and two pieces of naan. After being over an HOUR late (to deliver only a few blocks!) I called to ask where my food was. I was told it was on its way, so I continued to sit by my phone waiting for the phone call. Finally a friend called me to the front door where the delivery guy was waiting and proceeded to YELL at me that he was trying to call me. I explained to him that I had been sitting by my phone and actively watching it - I was, after all, starving after waiting for over an hour! Why wouldnt I be actively waiting for the delivery phone call?! He insisted that I was ignoring him, that I must think he was lying and continued to yell at me for ignoring his calls for several minutes. Even after I informed him that I would no longer be ordering from Jewel after that interaction, he laughed at me and continued to yell until I shut the door. I then called the restaurant to tell them that I did not want to pay for such treatment only to be brushed off that they would "talk" to the delivery man - they seemed to have more important things to deal with than an upset customer. DO NOT ORDER FROM JEWEL. They have no respect for their customers - both dine-in and delivery promises poor customer service! Instead opt for Taj-E India, based in White River Junction, which will deliver to Hanover and has MUCH better food anyways! UPDATE: The restaurant has taken it upon themselves to charge me a tip I did not authorize or sign for. Luckily my bank is resolving the issue, but how can a restaurant behave like this?!

My wife and I love Indian food and have had it at a range of places in the US and Britain. My wife had visited Jewel of India once, but last night was my first visit. We found it to be one of the best such restaurants weve ever eaten at. We started with vegetable Pakora. They were fresh, flavorful, and the sauces were clearly homemade and well prepared. We had old favorites for the entrees--Chicken Tikka Masala and Lamb Shahi Korma. Both were superb, well flavored, and nicely balanced. We had both plain and garlic Naan, and it was the best Naan I think Ive ever had. It was light, flavorful, chewy and (unexpectedly) crisp. We had both the sweet and salt Lassi last night. The sweet might have gone a little heavy on the rose water, but tasted good to me. The salt lassi was exactly what it should be, and was both delicious and refreshing. As I expect in a real Indian restaurant, the meal was paced to allow the diners to enjoy a conversation with each other while also savoring the meal. Everything was clean, and I had no problem with any part of the evening. We will certainly be going back.

I was there last night for the dinner. The staff is very unfriendly and rude to Indians. They forgot that they are in a country where they are expected to be soft spoken rather than being agumentive and try to teach us what is the meaning of an appetizer and the main course. Food was very spicy. We ordered reshmi kebab, chicken tikka masala, biryani and lamb curry, every dish had green peppers. I dont know from when cooks have started Peppers in Briyani, lamb curry and reshmi kebab. Biryani was more or less a pulao.. Sadden by the service offered and food served. I wont recommend it to any one.

My girlfriend and I went to this gem of a place not in a hurry on date night. Results....Jewel of India is my new favorite place to eat. Out of pretty much every restraint Ive been to in the upper valley, theyre food tasted best, largest portion sizes and the price was cheaper than we usually pay on date night. Our server, (who I shamefully cant remember her name,) was one of the sweetest most polite people that I have ever had the pleasure of interacting with. I will absolutely frequent this establishment. A+++ Thank you for the wonderful experience.

I cant say enough good things about the Jewel of India! It really is a jewel. I see the other comments about service and thats mostly because theyre so busy and the glass-top tables sound loud when plates are not put very carefully down. The servers arent chatty unless its pretty slow. All this being said, it is some of the most wonderful food Ive *ever* had. Period. Comfort, ethnic, clean, made to order....all rolled into one. Go. Enjoy. Be patient. Its worth it.

How this restaurant has a rating of anything less than a 5, I cannot fathom. I have lived in several big cities, including New York, and this place is without question the best Indian food Ive ever had. This place is one of the things I miss the most about Hanover. Anybody rating it poorly based on service - the owners dont display phony smiles or grovel at your feet - misses the point: the food is utterly incredible and made expertly from the best ingredients.

I absolutely love it here. I am Indian myself and let me say that this food is better than some of the food in India! It is also better than many Indian restaurants in NYC, which is saying something because the Indian restaurants in NYC truly are great. The service is wonderful, and the people who run the place are some of the nicest people in town. I recommend the puri, naan, paneer pakora, reshmi kebab, and vegetable pakora. These are all to die for!

The staff had worst behavior. They will treat non-indians with smiling faces. But their smile disappears when they see an indian customer. Their behavior was rude to us as if they are doing us a favor. Regarding food, it is the worst food I ever tasted. The matar paneer was horrible and the aloo in aloo paratha was not cooked at all. I would recommend going to other indian restaurants in that area.

Went out for lunch and loved this place! The fresh breads are an absolute requirement to accompany the delicious meals. We enjoyed Chicken Curry and Tandoori Mixed Grill as our selection and they were both amazing. The Gulab Jamun was the perfect finishing touch for dessert. Very reasonably priced and the options are varied and extensive. Very authentic and flavorful.....Highly Recommended! Wow!

I think Jewel of India is the only place in Hanover worth eating out. The service is a little strange- I wouldnt call it terrible, because they always get everything right, but its a family business and a few of the people may have some actual social issues. Its not personal, and you shouldnt take it like that. If you ask for things you want, theyll be brought to you and theyll be delicious.

While the food is about average for an Indian joint in a college town, the service has always been laughably abysmal. 2 out of the last 3 times I came here, however, was attended to by a man (presumably one of the owners) who was incredibly rude... really the only way to describe him is "a-hole". Although have eaten and gotten take away many times from this place I wont be returning.

Showed up at this place @ 9:25 on a Saturday. The sign says they close at 10. We were seated but told several times that they close at 10. The guy was very rude about it and made us feel uncomfortable. He told us we could order take out but we took our business elsewhere and I suggest you do the same.
