I absolutely LOVE this coffee shop! Ever since I moved to Henderson I have been looking for *my* coffee shop. I had one back home in Utah but until recently havent been able to find one here and Ive tried a LOT of them. A coffee shop to me should be a comfortable place where you can sit for as long as you want and read or bring a laptop and work (Im a published author), it should also - of course - have AMAZINGLY good coffee and yummy snacks. Bad Owl IS MY PLACE! When I first walked in it was packed with a line out the door. Not surprising in Vegas (seems to be a theme for all of the coffee shops here) but also not a bad sign either, right? Two squishy chairs that are never available but I dont care because the rest of the seating ISNT awful. I especially love the long picnic style table for working on a laptop. Why? Because it actually had a raised section down the center of the table so you can sit across from a total stranger and still feel like youre in your own space - you dont have to worry about your screen bumping theirs and whether or not thats going to make them mad (hey, some people are weird like that). You can put your coffee on the divider if you want which gets it out of your way but makes it convenient to grab (just pay attention when grabbing/setting it down so you dont dump it on your and or someone elses laptop because that would totally suck) and the bench is comfortable despite being a hard slab of wood. Barring that, though, the tables are nice too and they all have cute sayings on them that have something to do with Harry Potter. Fun fact! According to the signage, Bad Owl has been around longer than Harry Potter by a decade or so. In other words, they were either a coffee shop by another name before HP or they realized that a place called "Bad Owl" could use that to their advantage, redecorate a little, and cash in on the fandom. Wise move BO. Wise move indeed! Love the decor. Its cute, quaint, HP feeling but not overly in your face and cheesy. Actually, it feels more like a coffee shop that you would find IN HP than an HP themed coffee shop, which is a good thing. Does that make sense? Other reasons I love this place include the food and coffee! Oh yeah, thats kinda important, right? The food is KILLER! Id love to see them add a cheese danish to the menu but the pear tart is to die for. Stick a fork in me, Im done. They also have chocolatey cakey moussey options and everything is ENORMOUS! Several of their coffee options are HP themed like the Butterbrew Coffee (butterscotch flavored, which I liked despite the fact that I hate butterscotch). My favorite though is the Nutella coffee. I can feed my coffee demon and my chocolate demon at the same time. Now for my absolute favorite thing about this place - the coffee is served at the PERFECT temperature for drinking. I honestly dont know how they do it. EVERYWHERE I go including the major international chain that will remain nameless serves coffee at boiling temperatures so you have to wait twenty minutes (60 if you leave the lid on) before you can drink it without burning your face off. I never order hot coffee anywhere because its always too hot to drink. When I get coffee Im ready to inhale it by the time the barista hands it to me - I dont want to sit and stare at it for a half hour like a well trained dog with a biscuit balanced on its nose. I wanna drink it darnit! At Bad Owl I actually can! Its never too cool, never too hot ... I swear they must be using magic to make that happen. Also of note, some of the employees have pretty fun personalities and really get into the spirit of where they work. Its a good time!

Horrible coffe. Got the roasted almond iced coffee with almond milk and the powdered creamer they used was undissolved and floating around in my drink. I didnt even know they yard powder creamer. The coffee was luke warm because they over filled the cup with water and didnt lave enough room for ice. I make cofree everyday at work and know that the mixture has to be a concentration of espresso and little water so that the heat from the espresso can melt the ice into water, thus making the iced coffee cold. And they add almonds to this drink which is completely unappealing as you are drinking and having to chew or choke on almond bits and dust. Service was nice, but nothing exceptional. The barusts asked for my name, but the other barista didnt know how to pronounce Van so she just left my drink on the counter as I watched and saw my name on the cup. They offered me a frequent visit card which I wont be using. Unfortunately, Starbucks is better and Im not even a hide fan of Starbucks anymore. Disappointed.

This seems to be a really popular place and the food was outstanding. We tried the quiche Lorraine, Nutella and banana waffle and butter brew waffle. All were great (the quiche was our favorite). The atmosphere was very hipster and trendy. It had a distinct bent towards the Harry Potter theme. However, the theme was understated and subtle to the point that a non Harry Potter fan might not even notice. If youre going just for the theme you might be disappointed, but the food was well worth the quick trip. We dont drink coffee, so I cant judge that, but based on the local crowd that was just drinking coffee, it must satisfy there as well. The only negative we had was the rather long wait for the food, about 25 to 30 minutes, noticeably longer than the 10 to 15 quoted.

I was really looking forward to visiting this place. Boasting a "Harry Potter" themed Café/Coffee House, this little store front disappoints. With a few specialty drinks using a name or two from the series, it simply falls flat. Potterheads will be let down. I stood in line to order for at least 15 minutes and there were only two customers ahead of me. I knew what I wanted to try but when my turn came I had to make another choice. They had run out of an ingredient for the drink I ordered. After ordering, I waited for at least another 10 minutes and they didnt leave enough room in the coffee for the coconut milk. The wait staff is courteous and friendly, but that isnt enough to overcome the slow service and terrible coffee.

Coffee is hit or miss. They advertise nitro brew as one of their specialties - but good luck if they ever have it available. The staff is snooty - but not because theyre coffee aficionados - they seem offended to have their day imposed on by customers. On more than one occasion a drink was described to me, then made in a completely different manner and presented to me. When I ask why they made it completely differently than described - Ive been told thats how its made. All times the drink was awful and representative of pure laziness. When they actually put care into their coffee - its delicious. Unfortunately there is zero consistency so its either delicious or awful - never in between.
