I took my husband here for our 13th anniversary because it was at the old Kobes location that we became engaged; it seemed fitting. How disappointing! What was once a special evening out is now just a crowded over run place that has truly cheapened itself. The fountain is no longer running in the front, the bartenders cant even make a Cosmo and dont even have a standard item (simple syrup) to ease the bitterness with the cheap liquors they used. The bartender who seemed to know what he was doing had good reason to look annoyed by the burlesque looking female tender who even said we might want him to remake it since he is better than herself. When we came in we heard him ask her what was in the blender- she said she wasnt sure so leaned in and placed her face into the mouth of the blender and sniffed- saying she thought it smelled like margarita----you think either of them selected[ to wash it after her face was in it? Nope, swirled some water and started another margarita. My husband asked if I was ready to leave yet and go to McDonalds-- I said its our anniversary, I wanted to do something nice for him.... he asked if I thought this was still it.. I had to admit- this would be our last time. From a place that once had a dress code to one that people were wearing ripped jeans and T-Shirts, ready to stand on the corner in a large cluster but not for a nice evening out--we were in fact concerned for our well-being and grateful our children did not accompany us. There were whoops and hollers at other tables-- at least those seated with us did not do that. we also noticed that they now use dried onions similar to what is common to topping green bean casseroles in their once very smooth onion soup--- how cheap and low can a restaurant go? No more warm finger towels as once proceeded the meal preparations--- we were grateful that our chef had skill but were reminded how low brow Kobes has become when the assistant gave us the wrong bill (we knew we spent more than the 61 that was on the tab for one of the other couples. When we looked over after they left it was obvious they only left 65 cash on the table-- my God--- it you cannot afford to pay a reasonable amount of gratuity to someone at a completely full service establishment, then you should not go to one-- brings down the service and atmosphere for everyone. My children know that tips are a part of the cost of service industries- if they dont know how much to give they call us for advise. When people go out, they are not just with their people but with a community and as such should be respectful of one another and the people who work there or are anticipating on paying for a service.

I took my wife and kids there and we all had a great experience. The view from the 12th story is a nice feature and the decor is calming and well done. The staff were all accommodating and always friendly. The hibachi cook was very personable and his skills were on point. The food was delicious. They start by bring soup and salad to all. Im not a fan of most asian soups, but the salad is good. I ordered the hibachi shrimp, kids ordered the chicken, and the wife ordered the steak. We all had fried rice, vegetables, mushrooms, and noodles with our entrees. We all shared tastes and I was most impressed with the shrimp followed by the fillet steak. They make you several meals worth of food and we all had to take leftovers home. They have a decent drink menu and I recommend the blue raspberry saki. Purists may not approve of my fruity chilled saki, but I could not get enough. Have no fear, though, they do offer warm saki as well. We havent tried desserts there yet, but if the other parts of the menu provide any clues, Im sure they are delightful. Pull the trigger and go, the showy cooking makes the meal that much more fun.

We arrived at 8:00pm, the same time as our reservation, which we made a week in advance. They told us it would be a couple minutes wait, which was no big deal. We ordered a drink at the bar in the waiting room and sat down. 30 minutes later, they call the name we had our reservation was under, so we stood up thinking it was time to be seated. We were then RUDELY told it wasnt for us, it was for another party with the same name. A party that we saw come in after us. In fact, that was not the first group of people that came in after us that were seated before us. By 8:50 we were still not seated, so I went to ask what the issue was, only to see they had moved us to a 9:00pm slot on their schedule and hadnt even marked us off that we were there! The manager offered to buy us a drink for the wait, which MAYBE would have been okay if there was a table open, but we were still going to have to continue to wait. If you are going here, I suggest putting it under a unique name and not leaving the hostess stand, because the staff is incapable of maintaining a reservation book.

Didnt even get to eat. Lets start with the manager. I arrived with a 7:30 reservation to be told it will be a while. I asked ( nicely ) what "a while meant and was told a bit. No kidding... So I ask whats going on and I am told people are just not getting up. By the way, that does happen so I was understanding. After 20 minutes I pressed for a ballpark time and the Donkey ( manager will be called Donkey for the rest of the post informed me its a minimum of 45 minutes and likely longer. Thats not a " people arent getting up problem", Its a " Im a Donkey and I seated people without reservations before you. So now, I confront the Donkey and he admits to this. How do you treat your customers like this. Unacceptable . By the way, he was also rude because he didnt like the questioning and he should be fired. Terrible mannager. I will never go back.

The true test of a more expensive restaurant is whether or not you would spend that much money to go back. In the case of Kobes, the answer is a resounding yes. The Westport location is beautiful and scenic and the service is solid (and, depending on the cook, quite entertaining). And the food? Well, my wife and I get the Shogun for Two, which is a combination of filet mignon, lobster, and either scrimp or scallops in rice (fried rice if you want), and it is nothing short of spectacular. Be aware, at dinner you may spend anywhere from $50-100 for two people, but in this case it is well worth the cost.

My boyfriend and I recently went there for my birthday. The food was decent and the experience was an all around good experience. The bill was $50, which for two people is pretty reasonable. Unfortunately they switched our cards when we payed and charged us with a bill from a family of 6. We got charged with a $240 bill. They never fixed the problem and the bank eventually had to correct the problem for us. Not only that but the server (lady who also took our card) was blatantly rude the whole time. We wont be going back.
