Only good thing I can say about this place is the interior design. Minute we arrived the server came up to us and asked "Do you want anything besides water" making me feel self consious about just ordering water. We ordered the gochujang chicken which the sauce was delicious but the chicken was not cooked all the way so after the dinner my stomach was not very happy.... Then my curry ramen came... I have never in my life not finished a dish at a restaurant but this was so discusting I almost had to spit it out after I put it in my mouth... My wife ordered a different bowl and we could tell the noodles were pre cooked and refrigerated because the noodles were clumping up and it was so bland! Also, we barely finished the bowl they started cleaning the table as if to rush us out of the store when there was barely anyone...I thought it would be a good ramen shop that is closer to my home than Nami Ramen but this restaurant feels like cheep instant ramen compared to Nami. Also the pricing is way over priced. If you tried this place then go try Nami Ramen and you will see how different the quality and taste of food is.

Nippon Tei is my favorite sushi place! Always get the freshest fish and the best service. I have been to just about every sushi joint in St Louis, and this ones got heart. Best price for value in the St Louis area. Period. There are a lot of other places I like, but I keep coming back to Nippon Tei. Whitney is the best sushi chef in St Louis. If you sit at the bar, you can see her skill first-hand. She not only uses traditional techniques but also knows how to make a customer feel at home. Rarely do you feel like you have a friend you can trust making your sushi, but she recognized me the second time I came and made me feel like I had found my home. I usually end up getting at least twice as much fish as I would at any other place in St Louis and at a better quality standard. An all-around incredible experience every time I go. Recommend this place to everyone I know (sushi-lover or not). Wish I had a Nippon Tei next door. I have been there about 100 times and have never been disappointed. THIS IS GOOD PEOPLE!!!

I have been dining at Nippon Tei since 2005. I have tried many different sushi places in St. Louis and Nippon Tei is hands down, the BEST. The quality and service is consistently exceptional. If youre looking for low cost sushi, then you should expect to have low quality sushi. The prices at Nippon Tei match the quality of their sushi, however you can find reasonably priced common rolls that taste amazing. Whitney is a superb sushi chef and a friendly face I look forward to seeing every time I visit. If you visit on a busy night, be prepared to wait a little for your food but trust me, it is worth the wait!! Nippon Tei is also the only sushi restaurant in St. Louis that Ive found that gives you a small complimentary bowl of hot edamame when you sit down. Part of me wants to keep Nippon Tei a secret because I dont want it to become overcrowded, however, you just cant NOT tell people about how amazing their sushi is!!!

Awful experience at lunch today. They had plenty of cooks, waitstaff, busboys,... and were not very crowded,... but the service was extremely extremely slow - 2 hours for lunch. I watched plates of sushi/sashimi sit on the counter for 5-10 minutes before they were delivered to tables. Our order was one of those. By the time we got it, it had warmed almost to room temperature. We got there at 11:30,... there were only 2 other groups there before us. Our order was small and uncomplicated. We got the first part of our food (6 pieces of nigri sushi) about an hour later. We got the rest of our food (2 rolls) another half hour later. We finally paid and walked out nearly 2 hours after we arrived. We have had that lunch experience several times. I need to remember not to ever go there for lunch again (or dinner for that matter). Wasabi, Nobus, Sekis are all so much better, regardless of service.

This is the best food in town! I love the California Rolls, they are so fresh and tasty, always good. The crab rangoon are different but very good. We also love their fried rice which is amazing. I really enjoy the fried egg on top. I also really like the fresh carrot strips in it rather than the square carrots and peas in other fried rice. The chicken terriyaki is great also and quite a bit of chicken in the order. This is the best kept secret in West County. Great atmosphere, excellent food, great service and fantastic homemade lemonade. Go now!!!

First time at this restaurant, but certainly wont be my last! My meal was incredible! Sat at the sushi bar and had the pleasure of talking to Whitney the sushi chef most of the evening. I had the Cardinal roll (the nights special) along with a Zen roll, with complimentary edamame as a starter. The Zen was easily my favorite, with a combination of flavors I had never experienced with sushi. And true to form, server Kat recommended the Black Sesame ice cream for dessert, which proved to be a perfect end for my perfect meal!! You must try this place!!!

Really happy we find this little sushi place. We found it on Google maps and decided to give it a whirl for our first night out after having our first child, and weve been back every couple weeks since. Its quiet but we feel comfortable bringing our baby there. To bad they dont have a changing table. But the sushi and drinks are highly satisfying. We usually get the Shakira, whatever their special roll is, and one other. Add a changing table and this rating becomes a 5.

The food was great, the eel in my sushi was a little tough, but not enough to ruin it for me, it was delicious. I got to try some of the stuff everyone else was having, and it was delicious too. We ended up having desert there, and our very lovely server, Kat, recommended the Black Sesame ice cream, and that was seriously one of the best things Ive ever tasted. Im hooked. Next time Im in town Ill be sure to go back.

The worst sushi I ever had. It is worse than the sushi at buffet restaurants. The rice is half cooked and the rolls were falling apart when you try to pick them up. If you somehow managed to get a whole piece into your mouth, you cant breathe, since they are so big. Even the fried rice we ordered for the kids was pretty bad. It made us appreciate the other sushi restaurant we regularly go to so much more.

I have been going to Nippon Tei for about 15 years, and I still enjoy every bite! The food is constantly fresh and reliably high quality! The atmosphere is always calming, the restaurant is always clean, and they will always strive to remember your name! Its the the kind of place that makes you feel good to return to frequently!

I have had sushi in Japan, Hawaii, California, and numerous other places. That being said, the best roll I have had so far was at Nippon Tei. Fabulous sushi, GREAT atmosphere (not too intrusive, very quiet/intimate), great price especially for the distance from fresh fish. Will absolutely be back any time Im in the area!
