I went to Tsunami last Friday evening to take some pictures of my friend (who is African American) on the terrace. Tsunami advertises a great view. After taking 5 or 10 pics with a Nikon D90, SB-900 flash, and bracket arm (no stands tripods or anything), an officious woman who identified herself as the owner told us we were not authorized to do professional photography there. I explained that I am an attorney with a nice camera. (A D90 is not really a professional level camera–although it may look like one). She replied that only cell phone photography was allowed. The next part really flabergasted me. She didnt say merely to put away the camera, but that she "was going to have to ask us to leave." I did not finish my overpriced drink. But I was charged a $5 gratuity for the sterling service. My waitress was apparently unaware of the cell phone only photography policy. I was wondering whether Tsunami enforced their photography policy on a Jim Crow basis, which would be illegal (and of course reprehensible). A place that attempts to be hip leaves one wondering whether it is a modified Jim Crow establishment. I will end this review with the juxtaposition of hip and Jim Crow in the same sentence.

I have eaten here several times. The view is awesome and you can see the Mississippi River from where you are sitting. Tsunami has an electic crowd, dont be afraid to show up in yoga tights or a maxi dress to find yourself sitting next to some of the the most amazing people in Baton Rouge. Located downtown, this urban watering hole is perched on the architectural masterpiece that is the Shaw Centre. Tsunamis cocktails are delicious, I would take TWO Tidal Waves on the balcony looking out towards the sunset anyday. The eggplant is scrumptious, sushi rolls are great, chirashi, not so much. Too much rice and not enough succulent fish. The bar inside the restaurant also designs amazing martinis, although I havent tried the special chocolate martini with generous drizzles of dark chocolate sauce, it will definitely be something Ill watch next time I go. Expect a 30-40 minute wait without a reservation. Bon appetit!

My friends and I have been wanting to try Tsunamis for a very long time. Wed heard nothing but wonderful things about the restaurant. After finally making reservations for a Wednesday, we met up and things started off great. The appetizer that we ordered was a plate of riblets/ribs and they were cold at the bone. Not to mention, it took a while for us to get them. I also ordered the Lava cake which was SUPERB and made up for the horrible appetizer. I ordered the entree, which was steak and veggies and I was so disappointed with the size of the portion. Besides that, I ordered Ragin Cajun sushi rolls BEFORE my entree and didnt receive them until afterwards. I had to constantly ask my waiter for my sushi rolls, which I finally received about 30-45 minutes later. The food was delicious, but I think we caught the waiter on one of her rough nights. I would definitely eat again, but Id only order sushi and drinks.

Made reservations 2 weeks ago for Valentines Day, figured it would be ok for our party of 4 because some of us wanted sushi, some wanted shrimp and I wanted steak. They ha. All that on the menu. No. Get there and informed that they are out of a lot of entrees including the only one I would eat and some how that was ok because they had sushi. Prices were super high and portions were pathetic. Paid $10 for 3 shrimp as an appetizer, and $24 for like 5 shrimp over some nasty grits. Paid $100 for 2 and left there starving and had to go eat somewhere else. Ridiculous. How do you run out of the entrees when its Valentines Day and people have reservations. You turned what was suppose to be a special night for us to a crappy date that we blew loads of money on then had to go spend more money to actually get food. You are basically paying for the view.

If you are looking for a wonderful date or night out in a beautiful restaruant then this is your place. The sushi was good but Ive had just as good sushi for far less. The drinks are awesome. In the end you are paying for your location, not a better sushi. If you would like great sushi for half the price try one of the many other sushi restaurants in town that are more reasonably priced. Its really all in what you are looking for. The food is great. The atmosphere is great. But, the $200 bill isnt. If your are going out for a special night then this is your place. If are craving your weekly sushi fix then, this is not your place.

The food quality was good, our server was helpful and the restaurant is clean. I would recommend Tsunami for group gatherings but do not plan on going on another date at this location. Pros: - Scenic waterfront view - Rooftop balcony and outdoor seating - Large selection of sushi options Cons: - Hostesses were not very welcoming and seemed unorganized - Special note / request made (via OpenTable online reservation) was not acknowledged - Overpriced non sushi menu items Food: Good Service: Good Ambiance: Good Value: Poor Noise Level: Moderate *************** Items ordered: Sumo Ribeye, Shrimp Entree, Crunchy Roll ***************

I have lived from Houston Tx, Baton Rouge La, to near Tampa Fl and up to Indiana. Tsunami is by far the best tasting & quality sushi in all of the places that I have eaten. The Lava Roll is my favorite. The steak looks great but never eaten. Service is great and with the early bird specials 4-6 w-f is good on the budget and the sunset over the river from this top floor restaurant is beautiful. You can even go out on the balcony if it is not rented out. Very romantic, but even the guys like it.

Very overrated, the food itself was ok, but the service was horrible. I cant remember the waiters name but management will know exactly who he is by the following description . Reddish blonde hair, firearm tattoos, poor dresser, loud talker, as in is basically yelling instead of talking..... he was so loud he basically ruined the experience. I cant believe management hasnt at least told him to turn down the volume!!!! Hey dude, stop yelling!!
