Matane, a casual Japanese term for "Bye, see you later" and it applies, as I will certainly return to Matane. Great food starts with expert preparation and understanding of the food being served, in my opinion, and Wan has both. Having been to Nobu (both California and Miami beach) as well as Morimoto (Napa), I am a believer in knowledgeable chefs. So, as I eagerly devoured my excellent Sashimi, I had the privilege of getting to know Wan and his background. It turns out Wan trained at a culinary institute in Seoul and spent over 12 years there in the sushi/restaurant business. After that, he spent many years working and contributing to the successful growth of the Wasabi group of restaurants. It shows. Trust me when I say, if you enjoy sushi, you will enjoy having a professional chef with 20 years of sushi (as well as sushi chef training) experience in their repertoire when you dine at Matane. As I seek healthy dining alternatives, sushi like that offered at Matane has become an increasingly important staple for me (Blast getting old, and blast LDL cholesterol!), so I cant tell you how happy I am to have a chef of this experience, and HEALTHY food this good so close to my home. As I seek the healthiest food given my cholesterol issue, I cannot attest to fried food offerings at Matane, but if you like sushi/sashimi/nigiri, I seriously doubt you will find anyone with the equivalent pedigree, nor food as good, as what is offered at Matane. Wait staff was very helpful and eager to answer any questions. I got the bulgolgi bento box and it was a great way to try a little bit of everything Matane has to offer. It came with bulgolgi beef, vegetables, shrimp and potatoe tempura, a California roll (I substituted with a crunch roll and it was very good). We also tried some gyoza and fried rice. The gyoza were good and the fried rice was OK, I probably wouldnt get it again. It is a little pricey but everything is totally worth it. Definitely worth a try!

The sushi was fresh and delicious! I ordered the shrimp tempura roll and it far surpassed all expectations. The miso soup wasnt very good. Everyone I was with received their sushi at different times. One person was done eating before my husbands food arrived because there was at least a 10 minutes gap. Also, our server just didnt seem like he wanted to be there. Regardless of service, we would go back just for the food. Definitely worth trying!

Please dont come here and make 3 changes to a California roll. This restaurant, staff and ambiance deserve so much better. A wonderful place to enjoy traditional Japanese food and service. Thank you for dozens of wonderful experiences.

I like it... Adventuresome people should try it. Those of you stuck in a routine should definitely try it. Since Japanese food is new to me, every visit is a time to explore. So far, the journey has been great.

Excellent! Sushi is great, ginger is refreshing, entrees are great and service is great, very friendly, quaint atmosphere, they gave me complimentary strawberry ice cream, but I was already impressed.
