Beware of being overcharged/double charged! And you probably wont get the right food. Case in point: A couple of us in the party got double charged because the waitress couldnt keep things strait. Also had a hard time getting the right food. As far as didnt get the right food, I ordered: 67. Royal Combination Grill --Medium Spice Combination of Tandoori Chicken Tikka, Fish Tikka, and Seekh Kabab, served with rice and nan bread. My date Ordered: 61. Mixed Grill --Mild Spice A delicious mix of Chicken Tandoori, Chicken Tikka, Sheesh Kebab, Tandoori Shrimp, peppers, & onions We got exactly the same thing. I had shrimp in my dish (good thing Im not allergic), tandoori chicken along with peppers and onions.(No mention of peppers and onions on the menu) and mine was definitely not medium spice. She got some chicken tikka and fish tikka in hers. She doesnt like fish. Ask anyone at the table, there was no difference in what we got. Quality/taste of the food was ok, not great, not bad, just ok. And I really didnt get what I ordered. Double charged-- The waitress/hostess forgot to split the bread among all of the tickets, like she said she was going to so I said Id pay for it. After everyone had paid, they claimed there were some items still unpaid by our party. One of them, the bread I had already paid for. Rather than make a scene because it was a good friends birthday, I went ahead an paid for it again. Someone else also had to pay a second time for her appetizer. The bad thing, noone got itemized receipts, just a dollar amount. Buyer beware. Ill never go back again. Thankfully theres another Indian restaurant in town.

I had to come to the big city for a few things I couldnt find locally. Decided to stop here for the buffet lunch. Im glad I did, the food here is great. Too many ethic restaurants in the Ozarks tone down the spices to appeal to western tastes. The result is always a sad imitation of the real thing, a bland shirt-tail cousin. But not here. This is the real McCoy. They serve authentic Indian food here and only one word comes to mind to describe it: Delicious. I had the Chicken Chaputi, Lamb Sagg, Vegetables Vindaloo, and Chicken Tikki Marsala. And rice and naan too, of course. My tongue is a happy camper. Its a nice buffet. Im a cheap customer since I dont take much meat. The curries alone over rice suits me perfectly. Dang, Im in hog heaven. I have to say this place is as good as any Indian restaurant Ive been to, and Ive been to them all over the US. Chef Singh does a fantastic job. And this was only the buffet. So if you want to try real Indian cuisine then I highly reccomend the buffet. And if it suits you as much as me, start coming for dinner.

gem of india is the WORST restaurant ive ever been to in my entire life! we went by on labor day as we were passing through town. we went at 2 p.m. for a lunch buffet that supposedly closes at 3, but there was no food on the buffet at 2 and they didnt bother refilling any of the food even though about 15 patrons came by at the same time we did. we asked a waitress for silverware/water and got an eye roll. we eventually got our own silverware from the kitchen. we then asked the waitress if the buffet items would be refilled, and she went on a screaming RAMPAGE. she screamed "too bad" and "thats your problem." the families seated us next to us were as shocked by her screaming as we were and they got up and left. the little food we did have was congealed and disgusting. it had obviously been reheated for several days. we left with a headache from the waitress screaming and a stomach ache from the terrible food. we pass by the area pretty often, but well never set foot in that place again. if you want to have a good, relaxing meal, DONT GO HERE!

My post was deleted from Facebook so here it is. I went to this event last night.( Gem of Indias Diwali-Festival of Lights ) It is absolutely not worth $30 a person. The music is too loud, the dancers are mediocre and the food, although good, was just like any other time. Dont be fooled by the posts of people talking about it being for a "good cause". The money from this event does not go to help people in the Springfield area, the cans of food do, but honestly if you really want to help, go to any other restaurant, spend $30 and then spend the other $30 (if youre a couple of course) on actually helping people with food. The 6 cans of food you bring to eat the same old buffet that normally cost under $10, drink out of red solo cups and eat with plastic forks IS something that helps but think of how much you could actually help by not being robbed at this event and spending your money wisely, giving the people of Springfield that need food a far better donation.

The food Gem of India serves is so good. However, there are three SIGNIFICANT criticisms about the service. First, it does not meet cleaning standards. Everytime I go there, they get me seated at a dirty booth or table. I think they do that to save money that they would have spent on washing the booth or tables towel. I saw grease and food on both of the table towel and the booths seat several times. The glasses they use to serve water sometimes smell like a dirty rag. Second, the menu is so expensive, as opposed to the buffet, which is the reason why most patrons do not go there except for the buffet. When you order off the menu, sides are not included as it is the case with other restaurants. You have to pay for sides, which are expensive. This is a major shortcoming of the restaurant. Third, they often blow you off while youre dining, and you have to call somebody to remind them to give you a refill of water, which makes you so thirsty.

Probably the best Indian place in town, and I go regularly for Indian. The point off is because if you do take out orders, which is what I do, if someone in the back takes your order, they wont record it. The young lady and young guy will have your order transmitted if they answer the phone, but if anyone else takes your order they wont prepare your order for you until you get there. They wont tell you thats what theyre doing, when you get there, theyll just say "It needs a few more minutes" even if youve gotten there outside the time frame they gave you for when it will be ready. a "20 minute" stated wait can easily be a 40 minute wait, or longer.

Although the Gem of India has fairly good food, one should beware of the online menu. It is not accurate. I went into the restaurant recently and ordered 15 pieces of nan bread to go. I walked out having paid more than $47 for what should have been about $30, according to the menu. Their explanation: The menu online is old and the prices are no longer accurate. The bread was good...not that good. For the quality food, the prices are a bit high, especially considering the fact that many other restaurants have lowered prices a bit, due to the economy. As always, the lack of competition is bad for the consumer.
