Komatsu! This place is a pleasant surprise. When you walk in the door, its hard to tell at first that it is going to be phenomenal food. The decor consists of plywood, plywood, and more plywood that has been put together to make booths and stools. This doesnt stop them from making out of this world ramen though. My husband had a beer while I tried the Pinappuru-hai cocktail. Both were a let down, really not worth the cost, $8 for the cocktail, $10 for the beer. We started with the Togarashi Edamame, which is just edamame with some 5 spice on top. Nothing too exciting there, but well cooked. We also had the Pork Belly Buns, comes with 3. These were pretty good too, exactly what youd expect reading the menu. The Ramen is where we were blown away. I had the #1 Yokohama ramen with pork broth. Although there could have been a little bit more pork, it was a great portion size and was delicious. My husband had the #6, also in the pork broth, spicy. We both thought they were fantastic. One bonus is that you can "make it spicy" for an extra 1$. My husband chose to do this from the beginning and I added the spice on the side. Both are excellent choices. The Spicy addition is very flavorful without adding too much heat. Overall we would definitely go back. Outside of the only average cocktail and appetizer, wed highly recommend this place for the ramen.

A solid midtown ramen option, but still going through growing pains, it would seem. The food is quite good, but be prepared to check your order for accuracy, or be told by staff "I dont know, Ive never done that/made that/ordered that before" which can be unsettling. The decor and sheer size really make the place feel less like a ramen spot and more like a ramen department store (?) so Ive opted for the usually lively bar area, which is cozier option (dim the lights please, though) - the only downside to the bar is the service is spotty. I highly recommend the #1 and #2, with the added spice option served on the side. The pork broth is fantastic, as is the pork itself. The Hakata Noodle is well made, cooked perfectly, and the right size for slurping. Fair warning: the shaved ice dessert served here is nothing like the shaved ice in Japan (in case you were hoping for that). Its simply a snow-cone like dessert option, and definitely not worth the money - just head over to Miami Ice if you want a better option. I look forward to this spot continuing to improve and coming here through the winter for my ramen fix!

Newish place in Kansas City. First time there. Went for lunch. Asked host if noodles made there. He said they were imported. Also said the broth was imported. Alright then. Sit at the counter where I see Sun Noodle boxes everywhere. Dont mind at all. Sun Noodles are the best. (For those unfamiliar Sun Noodles is a company that makes only ramen noodles. Hundreds if not thousands of shops use them including big names like Momofuku Noodle Bar and Ivan Ramem) Order my bowl. Get it fast. Lots of toppings. Noodles are great (because Sun). Then Im watching the girls prep. They are squeezing Sun Noodle tares(seasonings) out of bags into squeeze bottles. This is literally the same stuff you get when buying fresh or frozen Sun Noodles at a grocer. When I get to the broth it tastes and feels like hot water with a bunch of seasoning sauce added in. Ive bought frozen Sun Noodles from an Asian Market. You can buy a two pack, including the same seasonings used here, for $4. Id say save the money and do that.

I really enjoyed this place overall. Im not picky about ramen but I like what I like and the vegetarian miso with spicy sauce added was very good, especially for a cold night. I loved having so many options to choose from, and that will bring me back in the future to try some of the others on their menu. My only concern was that a good majority of the soups had mushrooms and I always avoid them when ordering food. However I do think they were a very mild kind of mushroom that wouldnt bother me like some do and Im sure they would leave them off if I had asked. If youre starving when you get there, I would recommend getting an appetizer so youre full after the ramen. Its not the biggest bowl but its priced well. I also liked the interior design. It felt like I wasnt in Kansas City. The special cocktail list was nice and something I look for at every restaurant these days.

To begin things off the service from table to order was slow, slower than Id expect with a half full restaurant. Took my party and I a good 10 minutes to receive a drink, another 10 to figure that were ready to order. The server was nice, but when asked a question outside the normal list of FAQs, EG: ORDERING NO NOODLE AND EXTRA VEGETABLES. this question came across as alien... when taking the order of 4 people, the use of pen and paper were lost in the wind and apparent when our orders were not correct. Now on to the food ----> it was AMAZE-BALLS! great noodles and broth, the selection was repetitive since the only difference is the noodles type. None the less Im pleased with the quality in flavor. I wish I could say the same for the service here. Come here when theyre not busy...

I loved the booths because I could keep my toddlers contained and their noise didnt seem to bother anyone. We had an awesome server. Very prompt with our food and super friendly! I truly enjoyed my experience even with my energetic 3 and 4 year old said. The food was delicious, even my children loved it. The bowl was flavorful and fresh. Im not a fan of a fishy flavor, but I loved trying the fish cakes for the first time, yummy. I also very much enjoyed my Pepsi with grenadine. They make the syrup in house and it was hands down quite the treat! I found out that grenadine is actually pomegranate and not cherry. Overall, I had a great time worth my family and our server. He was the best, I want him again. I had a stress free lunch, which is rare. Highly recommend!!

Near Westport, so not a bad spot to get to. When you walk in, you have a semi-authentic looking ramen bar seating. This is surrounded by booths that are walled in with just plywood, which looks odd, but it does offer some privacy. The wait staff was friendly. The music seemed out of place, like a random playlist on someones phone. It didnt help that there was one speaker for the whole restaurant, and it was at the bar with me, making it difficult to hear my server. Most importantly though, the food was quite good. Broth and noodles were great. The brisket that came in mine, I could live without. Would recommend going for the pork or chicken. I will be back to try more of their options.

Great Ramen with fair prices and lots of topping choices. Here they have Tonkotsu, Shoyu, and Miso broths with a large selection of toppings. The eggs were cooked perfectly, and their Smoked Brisket was good enough to stand on its own as a dish. The Brisket was a little odd in my Tonkotsu, but I do appreciate that they put their Kansas City touch on it. The venue was covered in plywood with many private seats lining the restaurant, and they had a bar near the middle that faced the kitchen. I really enjoyed the openness of the kitchen because Im always curious how each person sets it up. My only qualm is that the buns were a little over price and under delivered on taste.
