I have been to this bar 20 times in the last year, and I have never seen any discrimination. I am at the Cherry Pit after work for happy hour. I find it to be friendly, good drinks, good food, and a fun local bar. The crowd for happy hour is a 80-20 mix of European Americans and African Americans. I have been told that the bar patrons change at night, but I have never been there after 8 pm. There is a group of inner city teachers that I see all the time that are very nice people and have a lot of fun at the Cherry Pit. They have Bingo, Meat Raffle, and $1 burgers on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturday afternoons. A fun neighborhood bar. But not a restaurant. The reviewer that brought his wife and three kids, and was disappointed, should take his kids to a restaurant, not a bar. This is a local bar for adults.. The owner shows up almost every time I am there. She is active in the everyday operations, and in my opinion is doing a fine job. The bar has never had a funky smell as one review claimed. I dont like stinky bars, like Shaws in NE Mpls.

I have been coming here for years and the service and food is what keeps me coming back. I moved away from the area about a year ago and this is still a spot I never hesitate to come back to when in need of a great burger and a beer. I havent had a single thing to eat here that wasnt awesome and the beer is always cold. Contrary to some of the other reviews I see on here, there is a very wide varity of ethnic groups that come to this bar. However, they do enforce a pretty strict dress code, but not like Minneapolis as in business casual. No gang colors, plain white tees, extra tall tees, chains tucked in... that sort of thing. And that dress code is enforced to EVERYONE. Ive seen many people not let in because of this. Over all I dont see the negative comments that are on here happening in this place. This bar, as every bar out there, does have its share of people that cause a scene and deserve to booted for the night. All I can say, is go in there, have a drink, order some food and see for yourself. You decide.

I went there, have never gone there before but a friend said she wanted to so I tagged along. waited forever to get a drink or even to be looked at, I do not think this place is racist like others say because there were plenty of black people so no shortage there and they all seemed to have drinks. But I was not charged what my receipt said. Apparently three drinks at 4 bucks or whatever cost me over 25 bucks?? NO not even with a tip. Noticed it on my account and tried to get ahold of a manager or someone who could help me but forget it. They did not care and no one ever called me back nor was the person in charge there when I went there. I was mad, I dont care how much they over charged me because I was still ripped off and they should have done what they could to help me being as I had my receipt with me. Glad I have never been there before and have never been back. I have also let everyone know what they did so there, they lost more money then they ripped me off. whatevs I guess.

Unfortunately, this place was as discriminatory as they come. My experience was horrible. Being located on the East Side of Saint Paul, they did not welcome the faces of East St Paul. From the early on arrival, the staff ignored and played a distant eye to my group of friends though served every other ‘white’ individual as we patiently waiting to be served. What topped it off was when we were unexpectedly kicked out. They claimed we were ‘too drunk’ though we were along the others having fun and dancing along the music. They shortly asked us to leave for no apparent reason. Even the owner took no ownership in her and her staff’s discriminatory act. I do not recommend this venue for any sort of activity. There are plenty of other bars to hang out that do not discriminate!!

Id love to give an honest review of their food, atmosphere, and bar choices. Id love to rave about their happy hour, since it was well-reputed. Unfortunately, I cant do any of that since my friend and I, both dressed nicely but casually, were promptly asked to leave after walking in. Reason? My friend was wearing a white shirt. Not a beater, not ripped-up hobo garb, just a nice white shirt. And the bartender immediately and rather rudely told him to leave. We stood there in shock for a full minute before realizing she was dead serious. If your establishment is one of discrimination and ridiculously arbitrary rules, you may take your uppity attitude and stick it where the sun doesnt shine.

I think the variety of food, happy hour prices and entertainment of the pitgo and meat raffle make this place A#1. The only thing holding me back from 5 stars is that some of the bartenders are over worked trying to attend to all the patrons, making service slow. There was a man working there that was working harder than the waitress. It was a blonde and only waitress. Didnt seem to be stressed at all to wait on people. This older man that came out serving food, clearing off tables, watering plants and picking up discarded pull tabs. I gave him his own tip just for what he was doing. Dont know his name, but he was a truley hard worker. God bless him.

My team is sponsored by the Cherry Pit & we come in every Monday night after our games, they have great specials on Monday nights. $5 Double cheeseburger baskets and amazing drink specials plus some live music occasionally- I think I can speak on behalf of my team that we really enjoy the great atmosphere with new patio, great food, and good service. With so many sports being televised, there are many tvs to pick your favorite one to watch, nice to have options. The team is having a blast here!

After reading Yelp reviews and comments, it appears that the management makes excuses and "explains" things to costumers instead of apologizing and/or fixing the issues. Very sad, and not a great way to run a business. Racist dress code that they pick and choose whether theyll enforce. Its disgusting and sad that they get away with it. Dirty place, mediocre food.

I feel its disrespectful for a barter to tell a customer how they are suppose to leave a tip. Tips are not obligated PERIOD I have been coming here for a long time and I feel this female bartender disrespected me by telling me I tip poorly.. I will not becoming back in here because Im tired of the disrespect,,,

I would give it 0 stars if google would let me. Sat there for 20 minuets until the waiter came by. You would expect that he would ask me for my drink order... He proceeded to cuss and ask what the burning smell was. Ohh did I mention the whole place smelled like a cat stuck in a space heater?

Tried ordering a taco salad with no black olives, had to bring it back twice because they keep putting olives on it! Well hopefully they got it right now, now Im really scared to eat it, you know what people will do to your food if you complain to many times. Just sayin!
