I quite honestly dont know where to begin when describing the Mandarin Garden. Do I start with the friendly atmosphere with the pretty red and gold walls greeting you as you walk up the stairs to the restaurant? Or do I begin with the happy and knowledgable staff that display the epitome of Minnesota-nice? Or maybe I should start with the fresh and largely portioned dishes for a ridiculously good price. I cant remember the last time when I went to nice restaurant and spent about $13 (with a 20% tip) and still had enough leftovers for 2-3 more meals. Thats about $4/meal!! Maybe thats how it has been there for over 30 years.... Every visit, I have to have my regular: Sesame Chicken - breaded, fried chicken marinated in a sweet yet savory sauce (sometimes I eat the sauce alone because it tastes that good); or Tofu Family Style - fresh veggies and fried tofu with this spicy szechuan kick. If you plan to bring a group of people, add in the Mandarin noodles and pork fried rice or pork with snow peapods. **BE CAUTIOUS of the chow mein!** The chow mein is NOT lo mein which is also not served on the menu. But the closest to lo mein would be their Mandarin noodles. I have tried nearly all the dishes on the menu but those listed above are my favorites. SECRET: If you can read Chinese, theres a secret menu written all in Chinese. It includes dishes that youd only find in Taiwan and are like home country-cooking. That being said, there sometimes are dishes that you may find on "Bizarre Foods." But to the natives, these dishes have a special place in their hearts.

In late April we ordered some food from Mandarin Garden. Sadly, one of my friends found a piece of metal from a scrubbing brush in our order of vegetable fried rice. While Im glad that it was discovered before it was consumed, and while I understand that mistakes happen, it was the response from the staff that was most concerning. They indicated that these things happen when their scrubbing brushes get old, and that theres not really a good way to tell when it will happen. Perhaps thats true, but I have to wonder if theyve thought of switching brands of brushes, or switching to new brushes on a more frequent schedule, etc.? Overall, their response seemed to indicate more of a passive acceptance of the problem versus a stronger resolve for greater food safety. So while the food at Mandarin Garden usually tastes good, I was reminded that thats only part of the final equation.

First of all their menu on here isnt right. I called and the lady said that it was wrong, that they didnt have a lot of the things that are on it. I ordered my food and picked it up there. I looked at their paper menu while waiting for my food and noticed the prices were higher than what the website said. I talked to the lady about it and she apologized and said they were gonna look into it. She never offered to give me and money off my bill (that was $37 for me and my 10 yr old). As I grabbed the bag of food she said "thank you for understanding, Ill get you more order of wontons. Got home and the wontons were over cooked couldnt hardly eat them. And I asked for my sweet and sour sauce to be separate from the chicken and they gave me only about 3 tablespoons of it!

I ordered cashew chicken and it was not delicious at all. I am not a fan of frozen veggies when I go out to eat, especially for Chinese food. The ginger was overpowering as well. I had take out so unfortunately I just tossed the food in my garbage instead of saying something if I had ate in the restaurant. When I walked in the restaurant I thought the place was cute and was excited to try something new. However, the staff didnt seem to know what they were doing. The young lady didnt know if she should help me or not. There was a young man and he was very helpful and took my order but he still even forgot to bring me the glass of water I asked for. Bad service and frozen veggies are a deal breaker for me. I wont be back.

I am driving from Ohio next week and the first thing that I want to do is go to Mandarin Garden. My wife and I have been going here for over 9 years and have NEVER had a bad experience. We moved about 4 years ago and when we come back the owner still knows our names. A++ Food A++++ Service
