I have never had even a remotely mediocre meal at U Garden and for the most part, the food here is excellent. I too, have no idea where the bad reviews are coming from. If you have a problem, civilly tell them and see what happens; they will satisfy all but the most asinine reviewers here. Many Chinese restaurants make an effort to accommodate Western tastes, but unless you favor only the buffet, not that those dishes are not good choices as well (you can serve up your selections to go by the pound), you can get whatever authentic dish you want at U Garden and I know they will attempt to accommodate individual tastes or dietary needs. There are some unique takes on classic recipes; one of my U Garden favorites is their Hot and Sour Soup, always on the buffet, so packed with vegetables and pork along with the traditional ingredients and flavors that a quart could make a fine meal for two or three hungry people, and stuff them to the gills with the addition of a few appetizers. U Garden is a fine restaurant and you should go eat there, especially if you are after great food and superlative service.

Clearly any good review of this place was written by the management team at this buffet. The service was not only horrible but I felt degraded. When we walked in we were "greeted" with a crabby lady who told us to sit down. No server EVER came to our table to ask if we wanted beverages even though about five of them were walking around the entire time setting up for a wedding. When my water glass was empty I had to walk to the front and ask for a refill. No apologies from them, just stares. The worst part was at the end when a man finally came to take our plates away. Since the food was cold and probably the worst chinese food Ive ever eaten, there was quite a bit left on my plate. The server, and I quote, said You left a lot on your plate and wasted a lot. Do you think thats ok?." Maybe if the food was decent, I would have eaten it. This place is joke, bad food and even worse service. Dont waste your time or money. You absolutely will be disappointed!!

I went here on 08/22. I gotta say the place is enormous for only having 2 buffet tables with barely anything to eat. Food was kinda old but still edible. The waitress and waiter were very helpful and nice. The egg rolls and won tons were not bad but they were pretty greasy so i dont think that the deep fryer wasnt high enough to drop them in it. I would have to say that I would go back since its a few blocks but Im gonna go eat a few more local buffets first since they have better ratings and apparently more buffet tables. Gotta say go try it but dont expect a wide variety and i dont recall any sushi which is alot of reason i go to chinese restaurants.

We have had lunch here a few times and they provide your traditional quick Chinese buffet. It can be hit or miss depending on the time of the day and how busy it has been. If you are coming during a lunch or dinner rush, chances are you will find adequate portions of hot food. If you are coming during an "off" time, I wouldnt recommend the buffet, and would recommend ordering off their regular menu. (Which is available all day if you want guaranteed hot food!) Staff has always been friendly and we havent ever had to wait for a drink refill or our check at the end. Overall, a very good stop if you are looking for an traditional, Chinese buffet.

Decided to try this out tonight for the first time. We ordered the dinner buffet. While its not a huge buffet, the selection was still really good. The food was better than most Asian buffets Ive been too. The chicken on a stick, egg rolls, and general spicy chicken were really good. They have a nice tiny little salad area, and this is the 1st time Ive seen ice cream served like this- a chest freezer with several flavors of real ice cream you scoop yourself. Really good ice cream. Even green tea ice cream. The atmosphere was nice too. Low lights, and roomy. Well definitely be back.

I love this place. Sometimes we actually dine in & the wait staff is sweet and so courteous. This is one of my favorite places to get take-out. I like flavor & they are not afraid to make it hot if its supposed to be. I know they sometimes tone it down for those they dont know well. They didnt even hesitate with us & it was great. I love the hot tea they serve with a big smile. Ive seen the reviews listed here. Ive never had an issue with them. Theyve always been friendly and generous. ~My sin from here? Their mini-doughnuts - naughty goodness.

This is my favorite restaurant on the planet. They have my favorite egg drop soup, and a great selection. The owner is a funny, kind man and is always willing to accommodate to your needs [except on your birthday during a vikings game when he has a wedding scheduled there ;)]. And to anyone bashing the buffet dont go to any buffet between 230 and 430 pm or after 7. Order from the menu at that point. Thank you Hoy for the wonderful service my entire life and from Larry and Bob of Boeser and BossAire

Hit or Miss. Sometimes there is some good food in the buffet sometimes it is lacking in selection. Make sure they arent having a event hosted there because the buffet will be unavailable and you last second craving will disappointed. It is awkward when they have events because you dont want to barge in on a wedding celebration (they do takeout but its not worth the hassle). Would go there more if they had a consistent buffet/less receptions.

This restaurant is very large and is able to accommodate large parties for dining. The buffet has a great selection of food however the quality is unpredictable. You can expect a fresh setup at piping hot temperatures, or you can expect the exact opposite. All in all, its a cheap option and better than some buffets Ive dined at previously. We will return and hope for the best - when its good, its good!

It was awful. The food was bland, cold, dry, and nearly inedible. The service was horrible and they were all very rude to us. I asked for packets of soy sauce and water without lemon and you wouldve thought I asked to buy one of their children. And we were charged $8.95 for this disgusting "food", and I use the term loosely, for lunch. AVOID THIS DUMP AT ALL COSTS!!

This place has amazing sesame chicken. It is the best in this area. The food is always so fresh and delicious. The staff are really friendly and they make sure there is enough food in the buffet. I always come to U garden for my lunch break because it is affordable and it has a large parking lot between St. Paul and Minneapolis.

It's like a cafeteria of Chinese food. There's always plenty of seating, just say you're getting the buffet and you're off. Quality is middle of the road, none of the dishes are going to knock your socks off, but none of them are bad either. Just good middle-of-the-road Chinese food by the truckload.
