When one is new to a geographic area, one of the first goals is to seek out new eating establishments without relying on the fall-back mega-chain fast food restaurants. Upon the strong recommendation of an acquaintance, I visited the Hibachi Buffet on East Lake in Minneapolis. Ill try any place once as long as it is inviting and clean upon first approach. Having past the key first test, you will be greeted by the hostess or host with a warm and friendly welcome and smile. Hibachi Buffet is a fairly sizable establishment that can easily accommodate the largest of parties. I would not call Hibachi "intimate dining" but one thing for sure is that is definitely family friendly which makes for a fun and culturally rich dining experience. The cuisine is extensive and diverse but more importantly well prepared. If you like Hibachi or Mongolian prepared cuisine, they have it. If you prefer standard Asian influenced dishes, they have that as well. If sushi rolls (Maki) or Nigiri is your preference youll be surprised as to the quality and variety offered. Not everything offered is Asian influenced. Some of the offerings will satisfy the most finicky of American palates, pizza, chicken wings, short ribs, occasionally baked ham, etc. The thing that impresses me the most after having frequented this establishment once or twice a week for the past two months is that you will find something you like because the variety is so extensive. Because of the high volume of repeat customers, the offerings are replenished and freshly prepared by an attentive kitchen staff. What makes coming here as a repeat customer so satisfying, is the hospitality shown by the staff waitresses. They are very warm and friendly and will go to great lengths to make your dining experience at Hibachi Buffet a pleasant one. Speak clearly and distinctly with all requests and communication will be easy. I very much have come to enjoy the cultural diversity. Lastly, when the check arrives, you will be pleasantly surprised as to the value received. I highly recommend you frequent the Hibachi Buffet on East Lake....as we say back where I come from "come early and come often" you wont be disappointed. When it comes to Asian buffets, I rate Hibachi Buffet a notch above the rest!

Just going to say ive NEVER felt the need to write a review for any place before. First thing that happened was one of the employees(i think the owner) walked me in to the place, which i actually thought was nice. When I said I wanted to do a take out box he gets a weird look on his face and starts asking me all these questions like "Do you want to look around first and see if there is anything you like?"...Its chinese food, im pretty sure everyone knows what a basic chinese restaurant has. So he finally hands me my box and informs me its priced by weight(which seems to be a somewhat recent change based on photos ive seen of the sign previously). Which was fine cause it was a medium size box, its not going to get too heavy. So I go through and pick out my food. When I brought it up to the counter the girl at the desk immediately opened up the box and told me sushi is priced separately...I was a bit frustrated because no one properly informed me during the full on conversation they were having about how their to go works, also because its extremely cheaply done sushi. Do they really feel the need to price it per piece? At least make more intricate sushi rolls if you are going to have it that way. So $15 later I got home and started eating. I have never had such bland chinese food in my life. Yes buffet food is usually a bit bland, but Ive been to cheaper places with way better tasting food(sadly they arent close to me anymore). I am very disappointed at this place. Never going here again.

My husband and I have moved to the cities recently, the gay district in loring Park. For months we have been searching for something great like we have experienced in our travels across the US... IN OUR OPINION! This place is amazing! We came for the first time July 5th at 2:30 pm... Great customer service from the second we walked in the door. Very relaxing and open atmosphere. Flat screen tvs all over the sealing. You can watch them prepping fresh food along with there awesome Mongolian style grill and sushi (which I realistically have to say with the 100+ types of sushi I have experienced in my 31 years has got to be the best I have ever tasted) . Tons of different types of food from taquitos, Broc and chicken, pizza, ice cream, baked goods... Etc... This is the first time we have eaten here and idk if we jus had a very good experience... But we will definitely be back and Im telling my friends.. A+++ IMO!!!

Very good experience. They did not have everything I expected, but that is not a surprise. Some of it was bland (not unexpected), but much of the other items had a taste and texture that made going there worth the time and money. Salad bar was standard stuff, nothing special. I went as part of a group and we all had similar opinions--so it is a good place to go for families. They have a soft serve machine (with cones, if you want) with three flavor choices--chocolate, vanilla, and both. Somewhat different food options are available during the day than in the evening (we went at about 2pm in March 2015).

Inspector Amanda Lee paid a routine visit to Hibachi Buffet on East Lake Street last May. Of the 98 violations, 37 were deemed critical. They included a manager who didnt know the proper storage temperatures for food. The same manager admitted that not "all complaints of illness associated with eating food at the establishment" were being reported to the health department Disgusting avoid at all costs!! 48 food Over price nasty food

If youre in the mood for a large comfort meal and only need decent quality food, this is a great place. If you go in expecting average buffet quality meal youll be pleasantly surprised, but if youre expecting particularly high quality food youll be disappointed. The sushi buffet is a high point and made fresh. Overall I find the Japanese food prepared at the grill to be of better quality than the Chinese sitting out in the bins.

I decided to take my family to Hibachi because of the good reviews and we like a variety of food choices. Hibachi has good food and is very affordable. Unfortunately, they did not receive a 5star because the sushi bar was mostly empty. The main buffet stations were kept full, but only the sushi station lacked. I will definitely return and hopefully the sushi station is more than 1/3 full so that I can update this review.

Good value Chinese lunch and dinner buffet in a renovated former Blockbuster. This is a neighborhood hangout with calming traditional music and modest, unassuming decor setting the ambience, CNN on television for catching news during lunch, and very friendly staff. Small but good beer and wine menu, and a pleasing sushi bar, though sometimes its evident that the rolls have been out a bit too long (somewhat dry sushi rice).

Dont go there, they have been named top five worst health violation of 32 and 17 deemed critical. Heres a part of the article "They included a manager who didnt know the proper storage temperatures for food. The same manager admitted that not "all complaints of illness associated with eating food at the establishment" were being reported to the health department."
