Unfortunately my wife and I had a really bad experience here. In fact the worst food experience we have ever had. We had heard this place has been there forever and you have to try it. So we did. I had ordered some burrito meal that came with rice and beans and such, i could taste plastic. The rice was an ice cream scoop of res mush. I had also ordered a cheese chillito but I think they got the order wrong because inside my tortilla was what seemed to be a green celery and brown gravy goo with a few chunks of ground beef. My wife had gotten a taco but the beef was mushy with a crusty layer on too as if it has been sitting in a tray for too long. Now, the pictures i have seen on this review board of the cheese chillito look actually pretty good! We spent $20 and We had to throw away all but a few bites. I wish the manager or owner was there so I could have talked to him/her and asked what was up. The 2 employees that were working was a younger blonde girl and a younger black girl who we could hear screaming at eachother in the back and swearing. I wish I could write a better review but I cant! In fact this is the only review of a restaurant I have ever written! We vowed to never spend money there again. It was so bad that I almost want to give it a try and see if I was actually asleep having a nightmare. Sorry guys, clean your shop, get fresh food, put some effort and care into the taste and hire better employees. Then we would LOVE to support a Mankato staple like you! I cant imagine our experience was just a fluke but maybe it was just that ONE night. I dont know :/

I have always liked Zanz for their Chilitos and therefore overlooked the repulsive environment and pretended like there wasnt likely rat poop in my food. We ordered 8 chilitos, a few bites in- I bit into this awful foreign object. After spitting it out I was reassured that it was not the rat poop I always feared but instead a piece of cow heart. I was and still am disgusted. Makes me sick to even think about now. Wes (owner) was contacted and he apologized and agreed to "make it right". I text him pictures and he responded via text and told me to expect something in the mail. After a week, I text him and said I had yet to receive anything. He did not respond to the text but a few days later I received the mail. He sent a letter saying he hoped the gift cards he included would make up for the bad experience...He had sent $25 in gift cards to Zanz-which was literally only a refund for my order?! And not even an actual refund...seriously? Gift cards? I text him again asking if that was his intentions; to just give me a refund in gift cards?! He did not respond. I text again, no response. I decided to send him a FB message, it was read the moment I sent it, but again, no response. I used to love chilitos but after biting into one and finding that, it has cured any appetite I have for them. So disgusted, and angered by the terrible customer service. The place is dirty and sketchy...trust your gut and stay far away.

First of the place is a dump. Then youd think its a Mexican restaurant but theres nothing but white people cooking so I gave em the benefit of the doubt. I ended ordering for me and my friend which ended up being almost 40 bucks talk about expensive so I thought wow the food must be good.... NOPE nothing mexican about the food the cheese chilito was ok other than that both the food and service was junk. Id rather go to taco bell or taco Johns this place makes them look authentic and thats bad.

Two words: CHEESE CHILITO! OK, more than two words: Its usually great every time I go there. The last time I went, they pop machine water wasnt working, but they have bottled water for purchase. If you are from out of town, you MUST have a cheese chilto. Some visitors buy cases of them to bring home; they freeze them and head up as needed. On Tuesdays, chilitos are a special price. Theres also a coupon in the Mankato SuperSaver that comes out every 3 months: BOGO Free.

Zanz is not Trucker friendly if you have a load. I drove over after looking at good reviews. I Google mapped it to see about parking noticed a center median headed over parked in the middle had my hazards on walked across the street and was met at the door and turned away. I was told I was blocking their turning (which I was not ) I told them I was getting my order to go and was asked to park somewhere else (which I couldnt ) its hard to parked a 53footer

Ive been eating here since I can remember and the food is always fantastic. Do yourself a huge favor and try the Mild or Hot Chilitos. The Beef Tacos are amazing as well. This place is super old school/classic decor and will not let your taste buds down. Monday special- Beef Taco, Tuesday special- Chilito.

This is the first time I ate here. The chilito was amazing, but I had the cheese enchilada and it spilled all over the bag, chips are soggy (which I only had 6 chips), and I really cant find the enchilada! I would definitely come back for the chilito. Also the restaurant needs an update.

While I only come here occasionally, I would highly recommend it. This place is a local landmark, and the only place I know of to get the signature Cheese Chilito. Definitely worth the experience. Go for the mild Cheese Chilito. Gotta try it at least once.

Was in Mankato for work. Friend of mine who went to school here said I needed to go to Zanz and get a chicken taco and some hot chilitos. The taco was nothing special but the chilitos were fantastic. The prices are also very reasonable.

The chilitos are a local favorite, but I like the heartier chicken burrito myself. Its an either love-it or hate-it kind of place. Very casual, Mexican fast-food. Its been around for at least 40 years, and the ambience looks it.

Nothing interesting or unique on the menu. Cheese burrito had unmelted cheese and raw chunks of onions in it. Rice was mushy and overall the food was pretty bland. Go to Taco Johns or Taco Bell if you want fast food Mexican.

Zanzis celebrating its 30 years in business I know because Ive eaten there for as many years its not a fancy restaurant but a good place to Grab & Go or eat in flavorful food and Chilitos to die for

Yum....yum...YUM. finally decided to stop in after driving by it a zillion times. Nice people there too. Definitely a better feeling supporting them instead of taco bell or other places.

Looks like a dump, quite expensive, but the Cheese Chilitos are definitely worth it! Cant say anything about any of the other food however, never had anything but the Chilitos...

They are known for their cheese chilito. Its a bit of a comfort food location for me. But bring a coat. Its cold here, both in the heat of the summer and deepest winter.
