We started going to Grande Azteca when they opened the first restaurant on 14-mile Road. The food was delicious, the service great, and the ambiance Mexican, with Mexican music, Mexican wait staff, and Mexican decor. It fast became our favorite restaurant and we were delighted when they opened one in Troy. Unfortunately, the one in Troy has changed hands or management several times since it opened. The quality of the food has gone down some. The carnitas used to be my favorite item, because it was perfectly seasoned and had some crispy bits, but now its fatty, imperfectly seasoned, and has no crispy bits, so I dont order it any more. The Chicken Chilaquiles used to come with slices of fresh onion and green pepper on top and was reasonably spicy. Now its unbearably hot and no more green pepper and onion to add a fresh taste, so I dont order it any more. The tamales are the best Ive ever eaten, as is the red sauce on them, but lately, the sauce is almost too spicy. What really has changed is the service. The waitstaff used to be wonderful. They would bring extra napkins, refill your salsa quickly, and be pleasant. No more. They barely speak English, so our orders have been wrong two out of the last four times we went, and they are just shy of surly. Its still our favorite Mexican restaurant, but if they dont train the wait staff and if they keep making the food spicier, it soon wont be. Is it worth a try? Definitely. Does it help to speak Spanish? Oh, yeah.

Combined family experience: I loved it, my wife did not like it and my kids said the food was OK. My family and I dined there recently. Always going past the restaurant, but we never actually stopped by. My wife loves Mexican food, so last week we decided to have dinner there, on our way back from a kids sports activity. My wife was the only one among us that did not like the food - she said it was cold and did not taste right. Not bad, but not as nice as she is used with. I enjoyed the food, free tortilla chips and salsa, good ambiance. I had a chicken salad, and my kids had a combination of burritos, tacos and fajitas. They all enjoyed their food. What I did not like was our server. It wasnt just her tattoos and an abundance of rings, but she was very curt and I never saw a smile on her face. All in all it was an OK experience. Will I go again? Yes, probably.

I hate Mexican food. Chi-chis, On the Border, Don Pablo. Hate them all. The americanized mass-produced versions of ethnic food usually end up all tasting the same. I let my husband take the family here for Fathers day one year and I took a chance on the fajitas. They were WONDERFUL. Arrives sizzling with a mountain of beef and chicken, so you dont feel like you have to have small pickings inside your tortillas. The salsa is fresh and not too spicy (a tactic employed by many establishments to get customers to consume less as it is bottomless). They have an endless supply of a slightly sweet white sauce that accompanies the salsa that we use to top everything we are served. We ask for to-go containers and scrape the bottom of the sauce containers with knives to obtain every atom for home use. We now frequent Azteca as one of our default choices for a night out.

I love Aztecas food, let me just say that. (The Sterling Heights location really spoiled me I guess though because this location is absolute trash). The waiter Ive gotten each time around 1PM on Mon. is a complete dope. He stated theres no flour tortillas for the enchiladas, which is completely ridiculous! I cannot stand corn tortillas and most people I know cant either, which is why its an option at every other Aztecas location! Ive ordered the enchiladas super rancheras at least a couple dozen times at the Sterling Heights location and NEVER had an issue with getting flour tortillas. The owner of the Sterling Heights location needs to smack the owner of this one. Will not being going back here.

(1st time) Ordered carry out and they made the order wrong, causing my friend who is very allergic to fish to freak out and consider going to the hospital. Thankfully he was okay. (Last experience) I do not eat meat and called to ask for a combo including a mushroom burrito/quesadilla/item of some sort, and was told I would either after to get the mushroom salad, or order the combo with a mushroom quesadilla, potato burrito, and spinach burrito, or nothing because they do not offer an a la carte option and will not substitute on combos. I asked to speak to the owner, was put on hold a while, then told he was not there. The person I spoke to then said I should go to a different restaurant.

Just finished a dinner at the Grand Azteca. Food was very good and was very reasonably priced. My wife had enchiladas which she enjoyed. I had the fajitas, which arrived sizzling with lots of veggies, chicken and beef. The food arrived at the table no more than 3 minutes after placing our order - it was really fast. The service, though, was excellent. Our waiter made sure we had everything we needed and had our beverages refilled often. All of the staff were very courteous and helpful. We will definitely be back, especially since the bar opens next week. ;)

After being disappointed with most of the Mexican food in Mexican Town in Detroit, my girlfriend and I were thrilled to find the Grand Azteca! The food is very flavorful, fast, and reasonably priced. Enchiladas Rancheros and Chorizo Tacos are our favorites, although literally everything weve gotten has been awesome. I do agree with other reviewers who say the chips/salsa are only OK. Not that big a problem for me though. Its confusing why this place always seems so empty - its gotta be the best mexican food for miles. They need to get the word out!

Best food ever! Awesome Mexican ranch and hot sauce! Today, me and my wife visited this restaurant first time. It is the best restaurant food we tried in last 8 years in Detroit. We always drive by this restaurant for nearby Indian and Italian restaurant but never tried this restaurant. We regret that we didnt visited it sooner. We will be visiting it again and again. What can I recommend you? try yourself and you will not be disappointed. Dont forget house Mexican ranch and hot sauce. We are ordering it to go.... ummm.. full and satisfied.

Fast good food. This place is definitely not "fast food" quality - I would rate it very good, but amazingly fast. We love to take our kids here because after you order there is very little time before food will be there. Service has been above average, and we go here without the kids - so it is not just the speed we love. If I have one critique it would be that the salsa is not great, but they have a second kind of dip they serve with the chips that is a creamy sauce that is odd at first, but give it a try it is good with the chips.

Food is usually pretty solid, but communicating can be difficult. Me: i love chorizo, but dont want tacos, what else do you have with chorizo in it? Her: Sure let me show you (flips the menu to the tacos and points) Me: Yes, and theyre good, but i dont want tacos tonight, what else has chorizo in it? Her: The tacos are right here. Me: yes, but what if i dont want tacos Her: Blank Stare... I just read through the menu and hoped i had found what i was looking for and didnt ask questions...
