Thought Id check it out on my way to class because of the good ratings. A very nice Lady (possibly manager) greeted me very well and suggested I come by later because I was in a hurry to class. I was looking forward to their samosas so I called them to place an order. A Man picked up and very rudely tells me that they dont serve meat - which to me was surprising because I hadnt asked for a meat samosa and their menu indicates they serve meat. He proceeds to say I had to come there to make an order and hangs up. So I drive myself there to get the samosas - he doesnt greet me, tells me he cant make the samosas because itll take him 20 mins. I ask him if they have anything that would take less time. He says chilli chicken and as I give him my debit card; he rudely says "cash only". I tell him that I didnt know and ask him to be more polite next time. He starts yelling at me in Hindi, which I dont understand. I tell him I dont speak or understand Hindi. He swears at me in English. I tell him he should treat customers more politely. He goes "I dont need customers *insert swear word* , I can do well without customers". Also pushes through the door at the counter as if to assault me. I just left disappointed. Regardless of how good the food may be, Im sure this guy will lose customers because of his sheer rudeness and vulgarity. I will never go to store again and would also warn anyone who plans to. I feel bad for the lady and I hope she fires or divorces this lunatic so that her business does well.

I typically dont write reviews but while on a business trip to Livonia I was in the mood for Indian food. There are quite a few choices in the area but based on the reviews I tried Dhabas Indian Kitchen. The first thing you have to get past is its located in a gas station. Many a good joke started out with something about gas station Sushi.. Located on the right side of the spacious store is Dhabas. I was warmly greeted with a handshake and I placed my order for Chicken Curry and Naan. I was offered a choice for normal or spicy. I chose the normal spice. 10-ish minutes later my mealwas ready and he even offered up a plate and plastic ware since I would be going back to my motel to eat. His Chicken curry had to be one of the best Ive had (encompassing about 6 or 7 restaurants in total) and it was very tender and for me the curry had just the right amount of spice. The naan wasnt too shabby either and you bet I will back again for supper this week before heading home.

Ok, so Ive read all the reviews and Ive eaten at just about every Indian restaurant in the metro detroit area. The 1 stars I dont get. I stopped in for gas and noticed the aroma, it was awesome. So i decided to try it. My wife gave it 5 stars and she is picky, a gourmet and a conniseur of Indian food. Yes the price is some what high, but I think all indian food is over priced, but just a bit. This one is fantastic. The saag and dal makhni were devine. The spice was right, the fresh chunks of ginger were on point and the rice and naan were spectacular. I ordered medium hot and that was perfect as well. JAY S was I believe confused as the owner is not a native English speaker, but he was warm, helpful with a very outgoing personality and a fantastic chef. So, I strongly suggest to people looking for real indian food, try dhaba, and you wont be disappointed. We will be back!

Chaning it to 3 stars oweing to a fantastic cocktail samosas I had there. It was one of the best I have eaten. Not only the filling but the pastry of the samosas too were fantastically flaky, light and gave that "khasta" feel to the bite. Well done!! Had 4 dishes from them. Tandoori Chicken was OK. So was Shahi Paneer. The real flops were Butter Chicken and Chicken Biryani.. Chicken in the Butter Chicken was overcooked and the flavor of Biryani was nowhere closer to what a Biryani should taste like. I mean rice and chicken put together do not automatically qualify as a Biryani neither does painting the rice all red. The Indian restaurant owners / chefs need to understand that. The Chef was a little pompous about his creation while I was ordering so I thought he probably knew his job and knew what he was talking about. What a disappointment...

This is an update of my old review . I have been going to this place for a while now and I must say I love the Punjabi food at this place. The most of the desi restaurants I have been here in Detroit ( or any where in the US) have typical and similar taste to gravies but its not the case with Dhaba . This is by the best Punjabi food I have eaten in the US . I have also seen mixed reviews about the owners of this place , but personally I have always received nice service . I should also mention that at one occasion I forgot my wallet at home and I realized that after reaching Dhaba , but the owners took my order even though I had no money to pay at that time ; they could have refused to take my order which would have been not unprofessional. I highly recommend this place if you are in mood for any carry out Punjabi food.

You have been warned. Avoid this place at all cost. Me, “So do we just order and take out”. The owner, “Yeah, not here – go to sleep, go to car, go anywhere but not here”. Confused by his reply - Me, “Okay let me think about it” – The owner, “That’s okay, don’t worry”. Confused even more, I said, “I’m not worried” and left – Unless the guy that runs this place was drunk or on some drugs, the whole thing did not make one bit sense to me. But any way thanks to google, I found another place like a mile away – Their food was excellent – you pay the buffet price for what was listed on the menu at this place. Plus the place looked like junk.

I was at the ConFusion convention last weekend, and five different people all said, "Dude! Theres an Indian place in the gas station across the street! You need to go there!" Well. Who am I to argue with that? I sallied forth across Haggerty Road with some friends, and we were not disappointed. Dhaba Kitchen makes delicious, comforting food: crispy samosas, creamy dhals, and onion naan that would be great on its own. Get out of your hotel and get some grub here. Plus! You can grab a whole lot of booze from the attached liquor store. Theres no seating, so bring a whole lot back so you can have a party in your hotel room.

Went on the recommendation of a co-worker... probably like everybody I was pretty surprised that it was located in a gas station, do not let that dissuade you -- this is THE freshest and best Indian food in the area by far. The owner is very friendly and you get a sense that he takes a great deal of pride in what he is doing. Also very impressive is how the food is prepared and packaged neatly with a lot of care in such a prompt manner... definitely professional service. This place is a winner from all aspects. I would very highly recommend Dhaba Indian Kitchen.
