We had my father-in-laws surprise birthday dinner at India Flavors this past weekend. Overall, the experience was good but there are a few things which could have been improved. Pros: The food was outstanding. Portions are good for the price, flavors were nicely balanced, and the variety was one of the best Ive seen at an Indian restaurant. Ambiance is where India Flavors has been building its reputation to set itself apart from other local Indian restaurants and it does a great job of creating a very pleasant and slightly more upscale feel. Service was always polite and completely accommodating. Cons: Being a large group (20-25), we were in the banquet/conference room. This room is nice and isolated from the main restaurant but it also has these water/bubble glass windows which look beautiful at first, but can be dizzying and distracting over time. If its possible for the restaurant to at least slow down the bubble flow and dim the lighting on them, itll make a difference. The service we received for our large group was friendly, but it was also very slow and disorganized. Also, having the four or five extra 4-seat tables in the room made movement in the private area very crowded. Finally, the room itself suffers from a lot of flat, reflective surfaces with a high ceiling causing lots of echo and thus making it difficult to converse at a comfortable volume. If some sort of sound dampening can be done to the room, itll help a lot. Overall: Great food, very good pricing, and friendly service. But service speed could be improved and there are some minor room tweaks which would help take the dining experience to a higher level.

Walking in the door, the decor was fabulous. It had a really modern feel to it while still looking and feeling Indian. They have a really cool water wall that changed colors that was very relaxing. The service concept was novel to other places. They have embraced technology. After you are seated, when you are ready to order, you hit a button and the server will come with her tablet to take your order. After that anytime you need anything, you just push the button. There is a special button if you want a drink refill or if you want your check. Its cool for those who like to enjoy their meal and conversation without a lot of interruptions, however, it does limit your interactions with your server and can feel a bit unwelcoming or unattended too. The food itself was good. Not the best Ive ever had, but not bad. We had asked for spicy and got more medium. We had order mixed pakora, samosas, and Tandoori chicken as appetizers. The pakora were mostly onion with a potato one thrown in. The samosas were good. The Tandoori was soft and well cooked, but lacked flavor, mainly heat and citrus. For entrees, we had masala dosa, Malai kofta, and chicken tikka masala. The masala dosa came out stone cold, and the tiny portion of sambar they give you isnt even enough for half. The Malai kofta was great, the gravy was perfect. The chicken tikka masala was, like the Tandoori, lacking flavor. The gravy tasted more like a mix of tikka masala and butter chicken gravies. Overall, the decor was great but the food average.

We ordered Butter Naan, Garlic Naan, Chicken Biriyani, and Fish Pulusu. All Naans looked same and half cooked. Chicken biriyani did not have chicken except for a piece off Egg. The rice in chicken biriyani is not good at all. Fish pulusu does not contain anything except for few fried pieces of pre cooked fish and tomato juice(Coming from Andhra that too Nellore Fish pulusu is so bad i could not eat). The white rice they provided looks like rice paste and served in coffee cup. On top of all these they were in hurry to close the restaurant by 9:45 PM while in google it shows closing time as 12:AM. This restaurant is waste of money. I observed that every customer was packing their food as they could not eat at restaurant. Hope i will never visit this restaurant. I never wrote this much for even my college exams. Guys save yourself dont visit this place. At the end they were asking for tip while paying bill, they dont deserve even the money for what they did to my stomach.

Tasty food, Interior decor classy, however management needs improvement. I went in person and made a reservation one week in advance for thier friends room. I wanted to make sure I get the correct room and I made a Reservation knowing it would be during a busy holiday weekend. However, when I reached the restaurant within my time slot they had given the room to another party. We asked to be placed in another room, but no other option for seating was given. This restaurant should not be taking Reservations if they are going to double book events. Moreover, when we finally were able to sit down after an 1 hour wait, the room was not cleaned properly, and tables were sticky. Further, since some members in my party had small children and dinner got so late, they had to leave without eating! I am extremely disappointed with the service. This restaurant has potential to be great, but beware if you plan an event here.

Ok, this place is seriously good. Ive been to a lot of buffets in Detroit, mostly in the Troy area, and India Flavors is much larger than all of them. The flavors are wonderful, quality top notch. They had all of my favorites out, all at the same time (other buffets usually have to chose, as they dont have that many dishes out). The koorma was wonderful, the biriyani had tons of flavor, the chicken 65 fantastic. The place was pretty full, even though its huge, and there was a line at the buffet. The good thing: this white boy was in about the 5% minority, which I see as a very positive thing! My lips were pleasantly on fire as I left - also a good thing. Two asks: I wish they had Aam Ka Achaar, and the soup bowls were ridiculously too small. Ill be back - this may be my new favorite place for Indian food.

Worst experience ever. We went for a dinner. It took more than 1 hour for food to come to the table after the order. Also there was not a dedicated person to take the order fron our table.Again the food was not hot. So we asked them to reheat. It took 10 more minutes. Then we ordered falooda as a desert. The person after taking the order of falooda came back after 5 min & told falooda is not available. The worst part is they charged us for that falooda order which we realized after coming home. So I called the them for refund but it took 4 days to refund that to after 3-4 phone calls. Initially they told we have to visit the restaurant for refund. They also told they will adjust this refund next time. But who will go next time after this horrible experience.

I visited the place for two times and both the times I missed the buffet as we went in late so had to order. The food is really amazing, especially the mango lassi and lamb biriyani. For the third time, we planned to spend our entire new years eve at Detroit itself and the most important thing was to make it to the buffet over there. I was so hungry and was ready to eat a lot bunch of varieties. Unfortunately, it was closed on Jan 1st! Bam! How can you guys close on Jan 1st? Man I missed it again!! Disappointment!!! Everyone came in and saw that it was closed, and every car had to turn towards other options. Everyone had the same reaction! Its closed? :O :O Try to open all 365 days :p We love to come in and have your authentic indian food! ;)
