I like the people that work here. I love the space. The food is decent. The food prices are fine, beers are a couple quarters more than other similar places around, but nothing too egregious... but when there isnt a game on, the atmosphere sucks. I live a couple of blocks away from this place, and I NEVER go in here. Its not like something they do is bad, or the prices are super out-of-whack, or I had a terrible experience here- I always pass it up simply because the place is so *bland*. They have this beautiful old pub that the constantly run all of these goddamned TVs in, with the blandest possible pop music in the background, and they draw the crowd to match it. As a result, any mood, or old-school character imparted by the space, or real personality is completely obliterated. People dont go into a pub for the food or drink exclusively, they go in for the experience. When a game is on, creating that experience is easy, because the game is drawing all of the attention. Thats when they *should* run ALL of those big flat screen TVs! Its great! When there isnt a game on, they should turn them off, dim the lights, and create a *mood* with the music rather than pumping the bar full of their favorite morning commute jams from kiss 108. I swear that they would consistently pack up those non-game nights, right up until closing time, in a matter of months.

Came here on a Friday night for drinks only. The bar was about 1/2 full and we were able to get a table of 5 pretty quickly. The atmosphere was fairly young with a mix of college grads to 30 somethings. The bartenders were friendly and make strong drinks that are cheap. This is a great place but not really near any T lines unless you want to walk from Harvard or Porter.

Good food and drinks and a great trivia night! If youre looking for something different try the pineapple cider, but be warned its very sweet. Small place so if youre going on a popular night get there early as they fill to capacity fast. Fun fact parts of The Social Network were filmed here.

Movie buffs will recognize that in 2010s "The Social Network," the fictional Mark Zuckerberg (Jesse Eisenberg) has a bad breakup at The Thirsty Scholar that ultimately results in the creation of Facebook. In real life, its an average place. Highlights: Guinness, Sunday night trivia @ 8PM.

Great local bar, very nice staff and friendly locals. Surprisingly good kitchen too. Brian the bartender is the best. Great music too. Can get a little rowdy but never frat style. They dont allow amateur hour here so you can enjoy yourself like a civilized adult.

Not a pleasant experience. Lunch isnt served until 2 pm. Wait staff seemed uninterested in helping us or being nice in any way. Food was not up to par and on top of it all our party of five felt cheated when they included an 18% gratuity that was not deserved.

Ive never really had to wait for seating, the generic pub food is okay, and nothing notable about the the design. They have a respectable beer list and also have beer towers. The pub can also draw a good soccer / futbol crowd.

The draft list is ok, the food is ok, the lighting is incredibly dim and theres often a draft. However, its cheap and one of the best bars for watching sports. The screens are very well placed.

One of my favorite pubs! Have been for lunch a few times and the food never disappoints. Great selection of beers and fun place to watch a game. Must plan to check it out at night very soon

Great burgers and other food, great drink selection on tap, huge accordion windows they open in nice weather. Its located in a very walkable area, there is also some street parking.

Cool staff, good drinks, great pub food. Not over hyped or over priced, not glitzy or cheesy, very down to earth. My GF and her crew meet here every other week, and we enjoy it.

It was on that movie about some social network or something, I think thats most of what it has going for it. Also it serves alcohol, which is also good. Big space. Check it out.

Reliable in a pinch, especially the nachos and pulled pork and beer section. The rest of the place is "meh" but Ill give it a solid average rating for the above options.

I go for the exceptional pub food and draft beer selection. The menu offers standard dishes like steak tips and chicken pot pie but the quality is truly top notch.

Great corn and bacon chowda and a great place for an afternoon drink. The Thirsty Scholar has a nice ambience, but I can see it being stressful when it gets busy.

featured in the opening scenes of the social network, this cambridge/somerville pub lives up to its nerdy name with lots of trivia and other nightly activities.

Food is good but youll pay quite a bit for it. Ask the server about the price of your beer before you order it. Whats $6 elsewhere is $8 here.

Fun for a drink and a snack. I went there because I knew it was featured in the movie The Social Network, but it was your standard pub fare.
