This place is a best kept secret. While part of the Garden area bar scene, Porters is set toward the back end of Portland Street. This gives it the advantage of being a less crowded pre-game stop than some of the other area bars closer to the Garden. At first sight, its not very impressive. While still cleaner than the Harp or the Greatest (two alternative spots in the area), it still lacks a certain ambiance. Caught between a sports bar and fine dining, Porters decor struggles for an identity. Where it really shines is the food. Granted, the menu is limited to your basic pub fare, but its pub fare done right. In a city where you cant go 2 blocks without passing two or three food serving pubs, Porters is a cut above the rest. Their burgers are thick and juicy, always cooked just the way you liketo it. My personal favorite is the cubano sandwich, made with turkey and succulent pulled pork and cheese doused in the house bbq sauce that leaves just the right spicy burn on the tongue. To top it all off, the service is second to none. Wait staff is super friendly and prompt while the bartenders make an effort to remember your name. All in all, great food, friendly staff, not overly crowded means Porters gets a 10 star rating from this local reviewer.

There were eight of us. We had three small children. We asked our waitress when we walked in if it was possible to get a few appetizers in a short amount of time. She said it was, and we put in an five apps. Three orders of chicken tenders, fries, and mozzarella sticks. Twenty minutes later a man came out and said they had no mozzarella sticks. We asked if we could have what they had prepared because we had to go... They brought out dry chicken tenders, rubbery fries and the waitress didnt check on us once. We had to request the check by chasing her down at the bar, and even though we asked her two different times, she had items on the bill we did not order (including mozzarella sticks). We are not picky or difficult by any means- the food was gross and the service was slow and unhelpful. Never again.

My wife and I are in town for St. Patricks Day weekend and we thought wed try this place before the Dropkick Murphys concert at the TD Garden. My wife had the Fish & Chips, which was very good and I had the Boogers & Mash (Irish Sausage over mashed potatoes and covered in Harpoon IPA infused gravy) and it was fantastic. They had a decent beer selection ad well and our waiter was extremely helpful. I wanted a beer that they didnt have and he suggested another beer that they did have that was similar in body and taste (again, very helpful). The environment was casual but certainly not rowdy. Very friendly staff and homey type of vibe.

Tapas bar hostess down the street was extremely snooty towards me and the boy, so we came here instead. Delightful atmosphere, not overcrowded even for the Friday night in downtown Boston. Didnt get to eat, but ordered a lot of drinks and they were good. Service was friendly, barstaff knowledgeable. Reasonably-priced fare. Id come here again.

Best Bar in the area for Lunch or pre Bruins/Celtics games! I work in the area and come here almost everyday for lunch. The food is great and well priced. The service is what keeps me coming back; Jess and Keturah are the best ,super friendly and down to earth. Ive recommended this place to all of my friends.

This place is first a bar, then possibly a grill. The bar is good, with a nice choice of beers (it misses cider, though). The grill is fairly standard, with what you would expect from such a place, like burgers, salads, sandwiches, etc.

This place is outstanding, but dont tell anyone. When every other bar around the Garden is packed, you can usually get a seat here. And the food and drink options are great. But again, dont tell anyone. Best kept secret in the area.

Love Porters before or after a Celtics game. Plus, theyve really been making more of an effort on the beer list lately. Easy to find a really good beer here. Also: Great the steak tips with onion rings. Thank me later.

Impressive beer selection and growing menu. Their Porters Ale on tap is worth a try. Since its right next to The Harp it kind of goes unnoticed. Its got lots of TVs always broadcasting sports, too!

Weve been going here for years and the food and the service are always great. We always go at off-peak times, so that might help. I can only imagine how busy they get during TD Garden games.

Great burgers with basic slim cut fries. I was offered to taste the draft beer before I chose it - nice and simple touch. We went early with few other guests but got great attention.

Great spot for before or after a game as they are usually less crowded and have really yummy food. They also typically have a trivia night which can be fun during the off season

Nothing stands out about this place, but the food does come out of the kitchen pretty quickly, which is good before a hockey game.

Great chicken fingers! Thats all I ordered. I ordered them plain with no sauce or anything and they were just mouth watering.
