Ive been to Silvertone more than a few times in the past couple years and its always been a consistently great place for drinks and solid good food. It can be a deceiving location in Downtown Crossing and if you dont know its there it can be challenging to find, but it always seems to be a staple of the after work crowd for drinks in the area. You get anything from your casual attire, to casual chic, to suit and tie looking for drinks, apps, and dinner after work. This place can start to get packed on weekdays around 630p depending on the day and crowd. You walk into the restaurant by going down stairs into a small but charming scene with a dining area and bar, with another small dining area and bar in the back. The bar tenders here have always been Excellent in their personality and drink quality and creativity! The food is very solid fresh, creative, and above and beyond bar food, but not excellent. They have their go to staples like the steak tips that have be marinated and are very good to a half roasted chicken with rosemary and fresh herbs that is almost shockingly good for a bar scene. The mac and cheese is another cant go wrong order. The theme here is clearly quality food that is made fresh to order with a lot of detail to how it is prepared but is definitely themed towards the heavier types of food. Great for a cold winter night when a hot filling meal is just what you need. The salads have always been consistently good, but not excellent as a secondary option to compliment the heavier options for entrees. I would definitely recommend this place to grab a Great drink, chat up the bartenders and definately give the food a shot, I can almost guarantee you will be happily surprised and impressed. The scene here is fun and mixed, but has an underlying younger trendy crowd on weekends for drinking. Great location in Downtown before you hit up any of the late night spots for drinking.

I wanted to really like Silvertone, I had been there a few years back and remembered enjoying it. For downtown the price is pretty affordable and I think the atmosphere is nice, albeit loud. (though worth noting my friends thought it was trying to too hard to be hip. Decent beers for $5 isnt too bad for Boston either. There were a few things that threw me off on the visit. The first was the waitstaff, they seemed a bit rushed, hectic, brusque. We wanted to grab a table and wait for are friends to showed up but were told to wait until everyone to get there not a problem, well just get drinks at the bar. Theres a $15 minimum on a tab and one of my friends was at $10 bucks when we finally had a critical mass to get seated, so he left it open planning to close out after getting another drink. Now when the waiter heard this he got pretty upset, and made some comment about how if people did that he would lose ALL his tables. He made no suggestion of transferring the tab and frankly was pretty rude about it. I get where he is coming from but it seemed like a pretty extreme way to handle the situation, and if we had been seated in the first place we could have avoided it altogether. Bizarre. I got the squash soup, which was OK but a little too sweet for my liking and nothing to write home about. Another friend got the Mac+Cheese, I didnt try it but she said it was a little too much like velveeta. I woke up this morning feeling pretty awful. I am not sure if the soup was made with chicken broth (I didnt ask, boo Im a bad vegetarian) and my stomach just reacted to that, or something else. Im not taking off points for that but it still left me uneasy about returning. TL;DR All in all Silvertone isnt anything special, I think its fine if youre in that neck of the woods but dont go out of your way to go here, theres plenty of other options.

Silvertone will surprise you. Its one of those weird, divey-looking places. You need to go down the stairs to the restaurant, to a red and dark dining area. Yet, they have pretty good food. At least from what we had. I ordered the burger with blue cheese. For $10, thats a pretty great deal, especially since it came with a side of fries. Of course, it wasnt the best burger Ive ever eaten but for the quality I got at the price I paid, I cant really complain. My boyfriend had the Daves Chicken Sandwich (fried chicken with bacon, American cheese, lettuce and tomato with fries and a side of spicy mayo). He really enjoyed it, and so did I, from the few bites I stole. The chicken was perfectly fried. The spicy mayo was just completed it. On the other hand, cocktails are very meh. They cost more than an entree and dont taste very good. I had the Green Tito (Tito Vodka, ice green tea, ginger syrup, lemon juice). It tasted pretty sugary and didnt seem like there was a whole lot of vodka in there. My boyfriend had the Joey Joe Joe Jr. Shabadoo (Old Overholt Rye, bitters, ginger beer, lemon peel). Everything about this sounded good to us - we love rye, and ginger beer, but it just tasted so wrong. It was undrinkably sweet, and I think they might have added too much bitters as well. I would recommend just coming for the food and skipping the drinks. If you really do have a hankering for something, stick to the wine and beers.

Joey Joe-Joe Jr. Shabadoo Da doo da doo da doo da doo? Shabbady dabbady dabbady doo? Jim Beam and Ginger beer is what’s in you? If by ginger you mean a seltzer spritz And by Jim Beam you mean lots of it Then Silvertone is the place for your crew. Oh Mac and Cheese is what you please? How about a vat of it? A raft of it? With a quilt of bacon to cover it? I’m talking comfort food, be rude Eat with your hands because well, It’s all going down the same tube. I say I lived the high life, While seated in the low light I ordered What’s considered an American Highlight The meatloaf: made up right! Soft and fluffy with mashed taters in sight And spicy green beans! I say the goat cheese crostini was Thin but not displeasing and warm But not fire breathing and All things being equal the Staff was not just helpful but Downright going easy.

Hi Im a food critic and chef and had recently came into Silverstone bar and gril for dinner. Service was quick and I was able to be seated swiftly. I ordered a Raspberry Fizz, which is a Vodka raapberry infused beverage with a lime. It was ok, there was no fizz and I wish there was a more broader taste of the raspberry inside the drink. I had an appetizer as well but I totally forgot what it was but it was fried and delicious. I had a steak MR with asparagus and potatoes. The steak MR was absolutely the best steak I had ever had well cooked to perfection, the asparagus was crucnchy and not soggy as many other restaurants. I left a $30 dollar tip. My server was great as well as the host. It was a little dark in the place but most restaurants in boston are.

This used to be one of my favorite places. I was just back after several months of not being here, and sadly, its gone downhill. The drinks and the service were still fine, but the mussels and the macaroni and cheese were disappointments. The mussels were a little sandy and not well flavored (they tasted a little bland). The mac and cheese was similar...a bit bland and not nearly as well seasoned as I remembered. The service was a bit slow, as well, but every time Ive been here thats been par for the course. I got here close to when it opened on a Saturday night, but if youre coming later than that, be prepared to wait. Its a small place, so the wait can be awhile. Normally I would say its worth it, but after my most recent visit, Im not so sure anymore.
