Visiting New England
The tiny Shanty Rose Pub stands tall when compared to bigger, more well-known Plymouth, Mass., restaurants. Unassuming and void of tourist hype, this plain-looking townie bar and restaurant might not have movie star looks but ultimately delivers on its food selections like New England clam chowder, lobster dinners, lobster rolls, steamers, and whole bellied fried clams, Additionally, the owner and staff seem very friendly and accessible -- not always the case with other higher profile Plymouth restaurants where you might get excellent food but feel no connection to the place. Plus, the friendly hometown vibe makes it a great place to enjoy a beer or other adult beverage. Additionally, the location cant be beat, just a stones throw away the scenic Plymouth Harbor. The Shanty Rose Pub really proves that sometimes the greatest things in life some in small packages. We would definitely come back!

unusual. We went there on Tuesday night. There were people at the bar and one family in the dining room. We were greeted by the bar tender and one of the regulars at the bar that assured us that the food was really good. The bar tender told us to wait a minute and then eventually told us to pick where we wanted to be seated. We sat for about ten minutes when the bar tender came into the dining room and gave us the menu. He did return in a timely manner to take our order. We only had the clam chowder which was quite good even though I"m not sure if it was made in house or not. He came back in a timely manner to collect our cheque. Pretty sure the bar tender was tending bar, waitressing and possibly preparing food. kudos to him. not sure of a rating as we only had chowder.

Very small, blue-collar pub. I liked that it sits directly on the warf. I ordered the clams based on reviews Ive read and I wasnt impressed. The breading was greasy and the clams needed additional filtering. They were loaded with sand. If youve never had full- bellied clams before, youll want to be aware that these are different than the clam strips youre used to. They have a part that is mushy, aromatic in flavor, and typically include some sand. The clams are also served with tarter sauce and not cocktail sauce. The bartender was friendly and so were the "regulars". Its a unique experience, but the quality of the food wasnt up to par for me to return.

Not great. Food took 30-40 minutes to come out for simple food like hot dogs and french fries. When my pizza came out it had hair on it. The cook was holding a can of beer as he walked back into the kitchen from smoking a cigarette while our food was being made. By the time my next pizza was ready my family had been done eating for a while and we needed to get going. The only good thing about the place is Andy the waiter/bartender, he was fantastic and super friendly (and appeared to be pretty much running the place by himself) Offered to remake my pizza and take it off the bill and was apologetic about the experience.

Very friendly bartender, helpful and let me taste a bottled beer before buying which was a first for me. I bought it, it was good. Picked a few places around town that he suggested we visit which was helpful. The food was okay but nothing special, they were also out of the famous Lobster Roll which was a let down. The selection of beers were lacking for a Pub which really is the reason for not having 5 stars.

Person was plunging the clogged sink while we were placing our order with the waiter, he in turn gave our order to the person unclogging the sink who then used his unwashed ungloved hands to put our food in to cook. I should have walked away then....even after speaking up, nothing was done. First and last time ever....

This is the worst, worst restaurant, pub or whatever this should be. Ive ever been to. The service is unfriendly, the atmosphere is disgusting. Not even talking about the food yet. I feel sorry for the pub.

Amazing food at great prices. The jumbo lobster roll had to have at least a pound of fresh lobster. Had the buffalo scallops as well and they were terrific. I would definitely eat here again and again.

Friendly service. Our party ordered the Cape Cod Stuffie, clam chowder, fish&chips, shrimp cocktail, and burgers. Everything was very good. Rustic and casual pub atmosphere.
