I just cant believe how bad The Porthole has gotten. Kept coming back because my fondest childhood memories are with a bib on grinning over a stuffed lobster on my birthday. Every birthday I only asked my father to have a small cake us and to eat at Porthole. So I find myself looking for excuses when I bring my family now and friends to eat here and am embarrassed defending The New Porthole. Was there 7/3/16 on Sunday. My girlfriend wanted to go to Tides, I argued I wanted to go to porthole. We sat outside since it was nice. Our waiter was quite a character, we went along with it. Took a while to get our drinks, then she came back with bread no drinks. Somehow she blamed the mistake on another waiter and started to basically yell at her in front of all the guest. My girl wanted to leave but we had order (still no drinks). We get our drinks and the oysters that we had ordered. Oysters were shriveled, had a funny taste, and I couldnt believe how bad everything had gotten. One after another. One if the other guest looked at us and said that we were extremely patient. Then the waiter answered her cell while talking to us and we just wanted to leave. Wont be returning in the near future.

WOW! Just WOW! I have never seen restaurant staff literally freak out the way they did. I walked in with some friends. Mind you we had spent the whole day out on the water in the boat so we probably looked a little beat, the ocean can do that to you. We werent loud, or tripping on chairs, or bothering anyone, we walked in like normal patrons. I asked if I could have a drink and a look at the menu. The bartender just flat out said no. I asked "why" politely mind you. He said "because I dont have too". Yes I understand in MA it is your right to not serve someone or refuse service to someone. But honestly I am not even mad they refused me, Im mad that they didnt give me a reason. Because if he cant even give me a reason its obviously something he doesnt want to admit to me. And the only reason I can think of is because Im not white and everyone in there was. Well I dont have a problem being around people who arent my same color but I guess the bartender does. So I just walked out and said that I would be writing down a horrible review of this establishment, which I have. I like to think here in New England weve moved passed such racism, I guess Porthole has a long way to go I guess.

Food great, waitress lovely, whole family enjoying daughters over $300 graduation dinner party. One of our 3 daughters spent hours making special cake for her sister for the occasion. We have celebrated birthdays, communion, confirmation and graduationstimes 3 for over 25 years. We never had a problem bringing in a special cake to Hilltop, The Century House, Polcaris to name a few. As we were cutting the cake the pitbull of a manager came over to the table nastily telling daughters that she let it go about the cake but not giving us the ice cream we brought because of health code violations and they sell ice cream on premises. I understand the Porthole has policies we were not aware of but she did not have to be so nasty at our table. She could have stopped us when we walked in with the cake or taken us aside and explained to us in a pleasant and professional manner what we were doing wrong and we would not have served the cake or ice cream. I think she just wanted to ruin a special evening for us....

This Place used to be great but no attention to detail. Point one ordered Claires Seafood Special says 13.98 but because the High cost of Scollops price would reflect it Always get this dish was one of my favorites all time so I know it like my own. Was charged 15.98 BUT the scollops were less than usual and cut in half O K charge me more but then why the smaller portion The dish is not very big anyway Then my friend who was with me received the wrong order had to wait while I ate mine slowly mine was cold by the time they got theres Nobody was there we saw the owner he could care less time for him to get out of the Biz all together Charge to much for marginal food will not be back soon at all Cost to much and they do not care The Lady at the Desk could care less We just spent 76.00 plus a 25% tip SO SEE ya Bob Gaudet owner who cares less about his customers This establishment has slid backwards Raise your price but do not also reduce food content at the same time.........

Although the Scallops Jason appetizer was good (but pricey), and the filet mignon was cooked just as ordered, the fried seafood plate tasted “off” (probably frozen). Plus there were only 2 fried shrimp on the whole platter, one of which still had the black intestine line still running along the back (gross). We went on a Tuesday night, and it wasnt crowded at all (maybe 10-12 occupied tables), but it took about 20 minutes to get our drinks, and a REALLY long time for our entrees to arrive. The waitress was good, and she checked back with us often, so I don’t think it was her fault the bartender took so long to make our drinks, and the kitchen took so long to make our food. There were only two of us at our table, and from the time we walked in the door of the Porthole (we were seated immediately) to the time we received our check, it was just under 2 hours. I suppose sitting outside on the deck for drinks would be nice, but for dinner, we wont be back.

Been going here for 20 years ordering the same dish. Always loved the Florida style baby back ribs. This time was different. In the past, I always got a full rack of ribs. This time I got only 6 ribs for the same price. I left hungry and angry. I know that time are tough, but the classy thing would have been to update the menu to reflect the new portion size. In addition to the smaller size, the ribs lacked meat and had the texture of rubber. The waitress acted like the place was mobbed even though it was Tuesday night and as far as we could see, she only had 3 other tables. She never waited for a answer when she asked us if all was okay. I would have told her that the beer was good. I wont be going back to the Porthole. I hate to say it but we would have left a chain restaurant with full tummies and smiles. Texas Roadhouse here we come....

We have been "regulars " at this Resturant for over 30 years. The food is awesome, the drinks more than fair, and the prices reasonable. Their prime rib is one of the best we have ever had in our dining experience ...the best part of the porthole is their staff starting with Kristen the mgr, , kelley , Ken, Darlene,John, and Melanie at the bar ...the servers who have waited on us are Rick, Stephen, Brianna , and a big shout out to Ryan who always gets everyones dinners out in time ...the hostess ,Marisa is always ready to help out to accommodate seating for the patrons. We have always found this Resturant to be clean and The food excellent , and the live entertainment an big plus ...we doubt one could find anything better on the north shore ..
