DO NOT ORDER delivery unless you want a 2 hour 10 minute delivery time. Food is good. Dining in experience was ok. However, their service for delivery is terrible! Never, never, never order delivery from them. I ordered through Grubhub and the expected delivery time was an hour later - even though the restaurant is only a 10 minute drive away. After waiting an hour and 15 minutes, I called the restaurant. The person on the phone gave me some lame excuses like "it is too far" (I live 1.7 miles away). "there is a lot of traffic and we have a lot of delivery orders"(at 4:00PM on a Sunday afternoon for Indian food?). "we can give you discount for your next order" (as if I am crazy enough to order again from this place!) After 1:30 hours, I called Grubhub to complain. They spoke to the restaurant and I was told that the food is coming in a few minutes. The restaurant lied again! After 2 hours, I called the restaurant again. Again the person gave the excuse saying "the driver is stuck in traffic". I checked Google maps and there is absolutely no traffic in my area - its 6:00PM on a Sunday afternoon. And the food is supposed to come "after 10 minutes". Seriously? Another 10 minutes after its already 2 hours!!!! The guy did say that they were gonna give me a 30% discount. Finally the food came after 2 hours and 10 minutes from when I ordered. And it was cold and not at all good tasting. Whats the point of paying more than $50 when I cant get good quality food at a reasonable time? Needless to say, my hunger has gone by this time. Never ordering from this place again! And you should also beware. There are better Indian restaurants in the area - and it does not take them this long to deliver ever. Even walking to the restaurant would have been faster. If you are hungry definitely look elsewhere and give this place a wide berth. Update: They did apply a credit of 30% as they said. However, this still doesnt justify 2 hour 10 minute delivery time.

This is probably more like 3.5 / 5, but I am generally underwhelmed by the quality of Indian restaurants in the USA. This one is probably above average. We ordered a takeout of two main dishes (between two) with a starter. The portions were massive, so we have plenty of food for another night / snacks. The bill came to ~$40 (including tip). The Chicken Daal was pleasant (although the chicken pieces were tiny) and the Chicken Muncharian was nice and spicy. Advice to the management: - Add hot plates / lamps to keep take-away food hot until it is collected, ours was sitting on the counter in a bag getting cold. - Put the servings in oven-proof containers so we can keep warm (see above) - Add onion bhaji to the menu - Improve the online ordering process (too clunky & slow) - Work out a way to use the bar area, or rip it out and replace it with something useful - Add more vegetable side dishes to the menu at an $8-10 price point Other comment: My wife and I used to LOVE Cognac before they closed down, so we were intrigued to check-out the new place. We were very surprised to see an Indian restaurant - one of the best features of Cognac was the ability to eat brunch outside in the summer (a rarity in Brookline). It is unclear if / how they will ever be able to retain this market.

Went there alone for weekend lunch buffet, after reading reviews of people who praised it a lot. But the reviews were so misleading! COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY. The food was cold. The buffet had probably been there for a while, and it wasnt reheated. I went at around 12:30, and their buffet starts at 12, so there was no excuse for why the food was cold and dint feel fresh. The garlic naan they served me could have been good if it had been hot, but it like eating raw dough. There wasnt any garlic on it nor was it hot. Dint feel fresh, it probably had been made a while ago, and they just served it to me without bothering to check if it was fresh or not. The chicken again could have been good if it had been hot, but it tasted like rubber to me. The waiters served me the bill while I was still eating, which was a huge disrespect! And then when I payed, a second waiter came up and gave me the bill again, a second time!! A very bad experience all together. Never going here again!

Just had dinner here, chicken Tikki masala was okay but nowhere near as good and authentic tasting as Punjab palace on Brighton Ave. It also tasted a little sour which was weird. Also the butter chicken was not good at all. The chicken had a weird gamey taste, yuck. And it was also sour which if you know what Butter chicken should taste like, it should not be sour! Or at least it doesnt taste good sour. Also, their service is sooo slow! We were just two out of four people in the ENTIRE restaurant, and for the most part the waiters would hide after giving you food. When I wanted tamarind sauce, I waited for 5 minutes. Then I actually had to get up to ask for it and I found two waiters just idly watching Indian video clips on the other side of the restaurant. Ugh. Bad service especially considering how few customers they had. Save yourself the money and get good food down the street from Punjab palace.

Ive eaten here twice and ordered take out a few times as well. I get something different every time, and Ive never been disappointed. Its the best Indian food Ive had, and its also one of the best restaurants Ive been to in the Boston area. They really take care of every aspect of a dish. Even the poppadum was flavorful, which is something many restaurants overlook. The employees are ridiculously nice, helpful, and great at their jobs. And even if this sounds silly, the plates, sauce containers, and serving bowls are simple and attractive. These small details are what makes this restaurant great. Give them your business!! They deserve it.

Ive only ever dined here once, but get delivery quite frequently. The food is always of a high quality and the prices are very fair for the area. I especially enjoy their samosas, naan, and chicken tikka masala. The only issue I have is for the portion size of the paneer pakora. It used to be four full sized pieces that were served with delivery. Now, when I order, I only get two cut in half. Kind of a downgrade when you are paying the same price. Overall I definitely suggest this as a solid Indian food choice, just wish the portion size would be more consistent/fair.

If you want generic curry fix, Shan-A-Punjab will do. Its dishes are not something that will wow you, and its blend of curry reminds me of the generic Chinese takeouts (they offer the same kind of dishes, and they all look/taste the same). Prices are reasonable, and staff are friendly. Location is convenient, mid-point between B line (Harvard Ave) and C line (Coolidge Corner). As the only Indian place in the area, I do hope the recent 40B proposal would not displace Shan-A-Punjab. (We dont need another luxury condo project, disguised as affordable housing.)

Had my favorite Indian dish, dal makhni. It was as good as, if not better than, any Ive ever had. The chapati, also, were exceptionally delicious. The service was unusually attentive, & the food seemed to arrive almost on the heels of my ordering it. I would definitely return. Im very curious to try their duck vindaloo. They have a number of lamb specialty dishes as well, some of which I havent seen at other Indian restaurants. Certainly theres no obviously superior Indian restaurant in the Brookline/Allston/Brighton area.
