Updated review: my original review, written a few months after they opened, was quite positive. A subsequent visit last night offers a different opinion. Despite the restaurant being nearly empty on a Thursday evening, we were seated in a hidden cubby hole on the second floor, invisible to the staff, and basically ignored for 15-20 minutes. At some point, our bored disengaged waitress strolled by to ask what do you want, and returned sometime later with our diet cokes, no straws. Our meals were lackluster in the extreme. Soggy quesadilla sitting in a pool of cold mystery liquid, almost inedible. And fajitas on a cold plate, no sizzling, no freshness. Limp and likely reheated vegetables alongside cold chicken pieces. Possibly just an off night. But wed think twice about returning, especially considering how many great options are nearby.

Their refried beans are cooked with bacon. Yes, that is all you need to know to go here. But if you want more, I found this place to be pretty good. It wont knock your socks off with the most astounding meal youve ever eaten, but for location and price, its a good time. Our server was very nice and properly attentive. The food was served quickly for a restaurant and was very tasty. Personally, I find Papagayo to be better than Fajitas & Ritas, but with a more limited menu and a ton more tequila offerings.

Theres two Mexican restaurants on West St, and this Papagayo is definitely superior. Their $7 margarita is fine, if not special, and Ive never been dissatisfied with their appetizers. Maybe my favorite part is that I know I can always get a table here, whether its for lunch or dinner. Theres restaurants with better food and drink in downtown crossing, but Papagayo is a reliable standby that Ill keep coming back to.

Terrible terrible experience, worst service Ive seen in Boston. Took us ten minutes to even see our waitress, and she then dropped off chips and disappeared for another ten. Absolutely no etiquette, I would swear it was the entire staffs first day waitress omg anywhere. Twenty minutes to get drinks, forty five to get food, and we only saw the waitress a total of four times. Dont waste your time here

Another entry for the Papagayo chain and this one was a bit disappointing considering how great the Assembly Row location is. Granted, we had a large party, but we had a difficult time getting the servers attention and there would be long spells when we didnt see her. The food was OK but nothing like the Medford location. Seating seems pretty limited but there may have been sections we couldnt see.

The prices for the food was great. I went there with my wife and kids and ate for under $50 while at many other chain restaurants you will spend well over that for 4 people. Our server however seemed very slow that night(Saturday) but we sat for 15 minutes with a ready to pay bill ( just one example of the speed in service. Great place to go for a drink and chill.

I went here for lunch with some friends on a Wednesday. It was pretty empty, so we had most of the attention of our server, and our appetizers and food came out fairly quickly. We got the queso dip and the guacamole for appetizers, which were both delicious! The entrees were great too, with good portions for the price. Ill definitely be returning!

The vegetarian taco with cauliflower was AMAZING. Everything we ordered was honestly delicious from the complimentary chips and salsa to the alotes and tacos. Other places had an hour wait at 7pm on a weeknight but Papagayo had a few open tables with no wait - a hidden gem in the theater district.

Stopped in today walking by after our Walk for Hunger. Had just finished a light lunch so were not really hungry so just had a Margarita and Beer. The staff was very friendly, prices were good and menu looks great. Will definately be back when we can really rate Papagayo.

This is a busy, fun restaurants in the Theater District. Prices are what you expect, but not so bad. It feels a little tight, the way they packed the tables in. We had a terrible seat which happened to be right in front of the kitchen door. The food was excellent.

Stopped in for a late night snack. Food was great, quick, and prices good as well. Only criticism would be that the bar was a bit to sticky for my liking but late at night with the volume of margaritas floating around I think Im asking for the impossible.

Im sorry, I really wanted to love this place but my experience was really bad.. The portions were small and boring. Mexican is suppose to be full of flavor, this was blah. I would go into more but its just not worth it. Cute place but thats it.

They didnt have the snow cone drinks that they advertised and it just wasnt what I expected the waiter ignored our table maybe because we were urban so we did not extend a tip which we could tell was the topic in the kitchen .... never again

I live in Colorado (home of endless Mexican food) hiso my expectations were modest for a Boston-based Mexican spot. Great house margarita made with fresh lime juice and excellent empanadas. I would recommend it!

This spot is OK. Its a tad dark inside, not much window seating and finding the eatery is not all that easy. Great Margaritas and chips. The food offerings are affordable and the staff is rather welcoming.

Maybe not the most authentic place, but still very tasty. The steak fajitas and the verde enchiladas are really good. We had a large group, but they were very accommodating and we all had a great time.

Our food was tasty and our server was on the ball. The atmosphere is pleasantly funky yet clean. The price was quite reasonable for the area.
