Famous for its notorious, Chilean sandwiches which feature green beans and spices, amongst other things, I knew that Id eventually set foot there. It was just a matter of time - I needed an opportunity, and after eight long years, I finally made it there for some lunch on a sunny weekday. Upon walking in, I knew that itd be good. I expected it to be good. The long lines dont often lie. They simply cannot lie. So I stood there, behind about 25 people, longing for my turn which eventually came, about 6-7 minutes later. I settled for a small combo sandwich ($8.25) which features both chicken and beef alongside a hefty serving of green beans, some muenster cheese, some tomato and some spices. The bread is quite flat and is homemade and did taste pretty fresh. Never had I had such a sandwich before and while I thought that it was good, I didnt find it exceptional. Was I expecting too much? Im not sure, but I sure as hell can easily point out at least 2 major flaws that I found in my sandwich. First off, the spices. They were really hot and not evenly distributed. Some bites were fine and others made me wish I had never ordered the damn thing. I nearly hallucinated for a few seconds after some bites as my eyes watered. It even lead to my lunch companion asking me if I was alright... Another flaw which I found annoying was the fact that the beef wasnt all that tender and when I took a bite, about halfway through my sandwich, I hit a solid piece of beef that my teeth couldnt get through easily and when I retracted my head the piece when sliding out entirely. I had to use my fingers to snag it and jam it in my mouth. Classy stuff... The menu at this place isnt all that big and sandwiches aside, they have a couple of salads, some soup and a few desserts. Its cash only and the service is very quick and efficient so despite the long lines, dont expect to spend more than 10 minutes there from start to finish. So was the sandwich good? Sure. Was it great? Worth the hype? No. Absolutely not. I think that Ill head over to Sam Lagrassas nearby instead. Im glad I tried it though but just the thought of having those spices cover my tastebuds makes me cringe.

Ok, I do not intend to confuse the reader. The sandwiches are good no doubt. The Bland one is the "original" sandwich. The spiciest one is the BBQ version. BUT, you would need to specify the sandwich maker to make it Extra hot otherwise it would just still be BLAND. The quality and the spiciness has come down a lot from what it was in 2008. In addition, the lines are BIG esp during lunch times. I would suggest calling in first before picking up. Though to pick up your s/w you would need to squeeze your way through the existing lines. The sandwich is also over priced $7.75 for a small regular chicken version(taxes included) and it goes up to $10 for a BBQ Combo version(chicken & beef). This a sandwich you can really make at home with some bread, chicken and avocado spread along with some trader joes red pepper powder. NO CREDIT CARDS ACCEPTED. Still it is an OVERPRICED sandwich. Chacarero needs to improve on these 1. Quick moving of lines. 2. Competitive price of sandwich. More taste/flavor expected on the sandwiches. 3. Better way of ordering over the phone. There should be a separate entrance or section to deal with phone orders so people can avoid the existing wait lines. Other than these, the s/w is good enough and I visit this place around once a month or more.

My favorite sandwich place in Boston. Some say it was better when it was built into the side of the now gone Filenes, but those people are more likely nostalgic for the communal experience that it used to be - waiting in one line to order and pay for your sandwich, and another to tell them what you want on it, all while outside with dozens of your closest downtown coworker friends. Now, its indoors, and more of an assembly line, but I really feel the product is the same. And that product is basically one thing -- the namesake sandwich comprised of a flatbread unlike one youve likely ever had and a combination of green beans, muenster cheese, spicy spread (get both the green and yellow if you like it spicy, they both add great flavor and not just heat), tomatoes, avocado, and chicken or steak or both. The chicken and steak both come as "barbecued" as well, which means they get a nice marinade and a dose of roasted red peppers on top of the sammie. A small sandwich is more than enough for lunch for most people, and a large, for the well-disciplined individual makes for dinner later on. Unfortunately, chacarero is closed for dinner and weekends, so it is an experience only open to downtown office workers and the unemployed.

If youre looking for a satisfying sandwich for lunch, stop here. Dont let the line going out the door scare you. Theyre so efficient, they took my order within five minutes. From the moment my order was taken, I was amazed to see the line of staff who made my sandwich and then bag it for you. You have a choice of chicken, meat or veggie. Choose between a small or large sandwich. Even though I ordered a large, the small looked sufficient and plentiful. The sandwiches are made with a thick bun that includes a spicy spread and cheese. Theyre also open for breakfast where you can order an omelet.

Fui con la idea de probar comida chilena y no tenían nada más que chacarero.. no había completos, Barros Luco, el día que fui no quedaban empanadas, el chacarero estaba medio "seco", en fin. Si tuvieran más variedad le daría más estrellas.

Excellent sandwich with a very basic menu. You can really get either an original or BBQ style sandwich with either steak, chicken, or combo. Get the sandwich with everything (default) and dont just have it plain. This is a great example of all the ingredients working together. I was still satisfied with my meal many hours latter. The only downside to the restaurant is the smaller menu which may warrant a 4 star rating for some.

Simple yet full of flavor sandwiches that are not one delicious but also a pretty healthy opinion. The small chicken runs about 600 calories and roughly 35-40 or so grams of protein (just guessing). I liked this place so much I was excited to go to Chile and try this type of sandwich there... After trying 2 of them, both highly recommended on yelp, I realized Chacarerro in Boston is a rare find.

A great place to try when in Boston. Chilean sandwiches, chicken, beef or a combo (of both), or vegetarian (although i dont why anyone would pay so much for a meatless version of this sandwich). Ive been going to Chacarero for 20+ years and while the price has gone up considerably over that time the sandwich is still one of my favorites. I highly recommend trying a Chacarero.

Great place for quick bite(very filling though)...especially for vegetarians...they have only one vegi. sandwich choice, but its great...must try.... I took out one star because they have messed up my take out order multiple times....you really want to check your order before you leave...you dont want beef sandwich when you reach your home/office if you are vegetarian !

This is one of my favorite Boston institutions from the many years I worked in the area. Its great to come back and see the same quality there since I last had it several years ago. I wish these sandwiches were made elsewhere in the country (I live in Miami, we should have them here). They are fantastic and always spot on. Order them extra hot, for added kick!
