Café Madeline has a delicious selection of pastries and coffee, all displayed neatly and gorgeously in a glass case. Prices range from reasonable ($4.50 for a beautiful, almost 2 serving lemon tart) to expensive ($2.50 for the ever ridiculous macaron…both delicious and infuriating). The staff was pleasant but not overly cheery, which I actually appreciated. They were helpful and told me about the hashtag I should use if I posted any photos to instagram, but didnt press me when I had trouble making up my mind. The lemon tart was delicious (though the filling a little bitter), the madeleines were a happy partner to my coffee, and the pain du chocolate….well…crispy, chocolately, flaky goodness is all flaked all over my desk currently. Sigghhhh.

I lived in France for years, and this place is the real deal. The pastries are true to classic form, but not entirely.... and that is a good thing. The pastry chef takes artistic license in a few cases, such as the almond croissant, while staying true to the classics. This really is ideal. He adds American expertise to the cookies and brownies which are not that good in France, in my opinion. All in all, you will not find a better croissant in Boston, and while it isnt quite like being back in the 10ème, it is certainly nostalgia inducing.

LOVE THIS PLACE! Been coming here since it opened even though its a bit far from me. I love their normal coffee because its strong but not too bitter like a lot of other places. But most importantly their pastries are kind of really amazing! It reminds me of some of the bakeries in France. My personal favorites are their brownies and quiche! But really everything is great and the person who started it has a James Beard award. The only downside is there isnt much space for you to sit and eat.

This review is long overdue as I have been to this place many times and love it just as much each time. It is a great place to pick up and take out delicious pastries. I have to say, the coffee is not my favorite but everything else is so delicious and I love the quaint setting. There is not a lot of room to sit down so just grab and go. In a world full of too many Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks, this place is a breath of fresh air!

The food is 5 star, simply outstanding. The people who work there, however, have a very arrogant (french) attitude. When I inquired about how they would heat up a piece of quiche because I didnt want it microwaved, the woman laughed and said "Oh, you Americans, we dont even own a microwave." Hhhmmmmm, they accepted my "American" money. So keep your conversation to a minimum and you will be fine.

4+, actually; The baked goods are spot on, wonderful. Pain au chocolat phenomenally flaky with just enough-toward-too-much dark chocolate to be perfect. Madeleines bright and with their soupçon of lemon. I havent dared to try their coffee as Starbucks, Peets, and Seattles Best have staked claim to my taste buds. I like this joint.

This almond croissant was the best one Ive had in Boston. Amazing! And the beautiful window looking into the bakery was fun--you could see the pastry chefs making the croissants as you ordered one! I cant wait to go back to try some of the other options. I brought a baguette home with me and it was wonderful, too.

My experience over the phone was terrible. Nasty manager no customer service at all. The eclair were very good so the brownies, also the croissants. For a new bussiness you should have help that know how to deal with the customers. Poor customer service. The rate for the food is 4 stars but customer service 2.

Finally a true pastry shop in Boston! This place has amazing cakes and desserts in general. Their morning pastries are super and always very friendly staff. Ordered from them for my corporate events, home parties, they always do a fantastic job! French pastry shop at its best!!!

After some research, I found that this bakery was highly spoken of and decided to give it a go- SO glad I did! I had the Boston cream pie and it was AMAZING! The cake was light with a fresh and tasty filling, topped with a perfect amount of smooth creamy chocolate.

Perhaps the BEST viennoiseries (croissants, pain au chocolat, etc.) in Boston. Such a treat. AND they have kouign amann as well, which I have yet to try. I just wish they were closer to where I live.

I lived in France for several years, and the chocolate croissant I had here was better than the majority of places I got pastries in France. A little pricey, but worth the delicious accuracy.

So far (Im new here, but have conducted reasonably extensive research) these are the best french-style pastries in Boston. The coffee is no slouch either. Try the Tropezienne.

Best chocolate chip cookies end of story. Not just in Boston but anywhere. Pick one up and then pop into Render Coffee down on Columbus for the best 1, 2 combo in Boston.

Madeleine replicates the feel of a french boulangerie/patisserie perfectly. Lots of imported French products and really good pastries.

Not a lunch spot - its more of a coffee + baked goods cafe. Get the canelle and the grilled pears in a crepe - so tasty!
