Update 2017: Best banana chips weve had. Still good friendly service and solid food offerings. ------- This is a small family run establishment. They have a simple menu printed on a single laminated page, lunch on one side and breakfast on the other. The food does taste somewhat like they use canned ingredients, but the overall result works for what you are getting here. For cheap prices they serve a quick no-frills filling meal. What sets this place apart is the friendliness of the owners. They are very pleasant and take time to chat and make sure everything is just right. The chef came and asked about the food, what we liked and didnt, where we were from, etc. A true local joint that values its community and patrons, locals and visitors alike. Specifics to the food... The chorizo cheese dip had plenty of sausage and came with fresh warm chips. The flautas were nice and crispy, but quickly got soggy in a sauce that was watery. The burrito was filled with a good balance of rice, beans, chicken and other ingredients. The rice and chicken had a nice herb flavor to it. It was my daughters favorite. I tried the pork and yucca. The meat was well seasoned if a tad dry, but the yucca fries were some of the best Ive had. Again the sauce was watery though. Overall a pleasant experience. Not fine dining but a solid roadside stop. We would come here again.

We found out about Los Mayas through Groupon (get $40 worth of food for $18), and because of the great Google reviews, we decided to try it out. We were not disappointed. This restaurant serves authentic Mexican food, not Americanized Mexican food. We tried the 7 layer dip, flautas, steak tacos Mexicanos and chicken and steak quesadillas. The steak in the tacos had was marinated and had a great flavor. The flautas had a tasty red sauce, cabbage and crema on top that made it tastier than the typical lettuce and crema. The kids lived their quesadillas, and they are a bit picky about their food. The 7 layer dip was the only item that wasnt outstanding, but we were starving so we finished it off. Not bad, but nothing to write home about. We were impressed that when we asked for a side of guac with our meal, it was mixed fresh for us- great flavor with a touch of cumin. I think that our server was an owner, and she was friendly and very accommodating. Our check, with the Groupon was only $28. Well definitely be going back!

This pace makes authentic Mexican food in an authentic Mexican food dessert. This is the best place in the area to get street style tacos, with a side of jalapeno sauce. The steak was very tastey and the toppings of cilantro and onions were exactly what is to be desired for this style of taco. Their crispy fluata cousins, which comes with a delicious red sauce and queso fresco are amazing as well. They manage to flash fry the 2 two tortillas so the inner one remains soft while giving a great crunch to the outer layer. I also had their nachos, which were abundantly loaded with meat, cheese, and refried beans. If you are in the area and have a Mexican craving, look no further.

This place is pretty much hidden in plain sight, but when you find it, I highly suggest stopping in to grab some lunch or dinner. I have been here a few times and the staff is extremely nice and the food is great. The restaurant is run by the whole family and they take a lot of pride in serving good food for a good price. I believe they are working on getting their liquor license to start serving alcohol, so this place should start pulling in more business. If youre around Fort Smallwood Road in Pasadena, definitely check this place out!

Having just come back from a week long missions trip in Honduras, we wanted to experience more of their excellent food. There were 12 of us total, the waiter was friendly. He informed us that it was just his mom cooking, and we were amazed at the service. A one woman show got all of our meals correct, and they came out in a timely manner. If your looking for Mexican food, go elsewhere. If your looking for Central/South American cooking, this is where its at.

I tried this place a few weeks ago and am planning on going back. Nothing fancy, but excellent food at very fair prices (my wife and I had dinner for $27 total including a 20% tip!). If youre looking for American-ized "Mexican food", look elsewhere. If youre looking for some authentic Central American food, this is a good choice. The owners are originally from Honduras and the menu reflects this along with Mayan influences. BYOB too!

Great food, I went there early and it was empty but boy the food was DECIDUOUS! The owner is very friendly and can cook so delicious food. I had the fajitas AND the tacos flautas. If youre looking for flavor and delicious food look no where else. It was my cheat day, so I pigged out. however, if youre on a diet be careful Im sure lots of calories come with the tastiness.

The owners son told us he wondered why his parents would sell their food. He had grown up on it all his life and didnt know if people would like it. Well, his parents were right. Its fantastic! My husband and four year old son love it. We found it just a few weeks ago and have been 4 times, and have taken family and friends. Go. Its worth it.

What I would imagine a neighborhood cafe in Guatemala would be like. Not fancy, not Americanized.
