Two of our five dinners, all in the $11 range, were quite skimpy on the amount of food. Rice, beans, spinach, lettuce and such do not cost much to fill a plate. Both the Flan and Fried Ice Cream were $5, which is $1 high for this type restaurant in Hagerstown. The coffee was cold for the first to arrive, but the waiter never came back until the rest of the table arrived. The unsweetened iced tea was good with nice slices of lemon. Our first waiter forgot a few items and I felt like we were continually looking for him. We must have hit shift change as a second waiter finished us up. Usually the first waiter announces his leave, at which point we give him his tip. The second. waiter was much more friendly and attentive. The music was so loud we couldnt hear each other. after the second request, the music was at a great level. The picture is of the inside of one of the thirds of a spinach and cheese enchilada from our table. Just a little skimpy? The decor itself is nice and the building is rather new. The restrooms are small and uncomfortable. Id go again only for the friendship of the meal, remembering you may get a snack for your entree. Yes, they do give free chips and hot sauce to go with your wait, even at 2:30 on Sunday afternoon.

This El Ranchero is a sister restaurant to the Wesel Blvd location. We go to this location on a weekly basis as we love margaritas and Mexican food. Food has always been good and the servers are very friendly. There are one or two newbies that are a little less personable, but the regular servers know us well since weve been going since they opened the doors. We take guests here whenever they are visiting and everyone seems to enjoy the food. Their frozen margaritas are very good and usually pack a good punch. Every once in a while they are weak, but this is rare. I noticed another review mentioned La Tolteca, which is good, but we prefer El Ranchero. The first few times we visited La Tolteca the food didnt seem as good, however during our last few visits they seem to be better. We also frequent Fajita Grande and used to try Cinco de Mayo, however keep coming back to El Ranchero. I mention these other places just to let you know we have visited most of the larger Mexican restaurants in Hagerstown and prefer El Ranchero...hopefully youll fee the same way. JC

Went to dinner on a Thursday evening. Had a few hiccups in the service area (chips didnt come out till after wed ordered mains and asked for them, also they delivered an order of cheese dip we didnt ask for then included it on the bill). As for the food.... The salsa was good, not great (kinda tomato pasty). The chips are the thick-cut generic bulk-order restaurant supply (only OK) kind. Both my wife ended up getting something close to fajitas (I got the plato grande). Visually the plate was appealing and the ingredients looked to be of good quality. However both our dishes were very much underseasoned and no amount of tableside salt could make the food taste anything but bland. The rice and beans were also plain. Mexican food is supposed to be full of savory flavors but this food was definitely lacking. All the elements for a good Mexican restaurant are in place here. They just need to kick up up a notch to get there.

Good Food. Clean restaurant. My rating is for poor service. I live 45 minutes away from this restaurant and every where online had posted they were open till 10pm Monday through Sunday. Drove up Sunday night got there at 8:30 the waiter told us they closed at 9 and to hurry up and order because the kitchen was closing. We explained they had all over the internet that it was open till 10 he proceeded to insist we shouldve known by the sign. {a little window sign you cant see from the road} he then proceeded to mock us in Spanish (not knowing my husband speaks it and I understand it) over all we were rushed my drink not refilled and pushed out as soon as we walked in. Having worked in the food Industry I understand the want and desire to leave early or right at closing time however you cannot do this to your customers.

Wish there was an option for negative stars. While seated and waiting to order watched three staff members rolling silverware in napkins, twice while we were sitting there they dropped a wrapped set picked it up and put it back with the other sets. I informed our server after the first time and he said something to them then came back to take our order. After our order was placed was the second drop and I asked to speak to the manager well it was our server and his response was to take the silverware away and say sorry. Makes you wonder what else they drop on the floor and then put back on the tables.......

Surprisingly good food for a Mexican place in a strip mall. My wife and I each had a different shrimp dish - both were quite good. Others in our party had the California burrito, and the chicken with molé sauce. Everything was good. The servers were all helpful and friendly, but it did take a while before we got all our food. (Note: if you tell someone to meet you at El ranchero in Hagerstown... There are TWO. One on Wesel Blvd, one on Dual Highway. Same management, not far away from each other)

I was interested and excited to eat here because all the good reviews being new to the area. My family loves Mexican food but unfortunately we never had an opportunity to taste the food because initially upon entrance we were looked over and ignored. When were finally seated no one ever came back to service us. We waited for 20 minutes without any service at all and the couple that came in after us were already served drinks and appetizers before my departure. I will never come back again.

The food is very good and the service was friendly. I was on my way home from OC M.D. to Pittsburgh and decided to go the next exit "Hagerstown" for a pit stop and saw this restaurant on dual highway. I took a chance and was pleasantly surprised how big this place was and how it was decorated. Nacho were homemade and the salsa was excellent. The food prices were average as you might expect. Not too pricey. Lastly, the food was presented in way that looked professionally prepared.

The service is wonderful, the atmosphere is great, and the food is delicious. I always get the Shrimp Al Chiptole, its my favorite go-to. However, Ive also had some of their burritos and quesadillas which are also great. The chips and salsa are honestly my favorite of any "Mexican" restaurant anywhere. Of course, its not a authentic mexican food place, like say, Taco Jalisco, but its still good!

The service is very good and the servers are nice. I would recommend trying the cheese dip, guacamole, and the salsa. This place has so many good things my favorite is the cheese quesadilla but if I dont order that I order chicken fajitas. This is my favorite restaraunt in Hagerstown. The best day to come is Monday because it is margarita Monday, margaritas are $1.
