My husband and I just ate here, its late April, so not the season. I really, really hope it gets better, though we wont be going back. His mojito tasted like watered down vodka, with no mint flavor at all, though the leaves were in the glass. They didnt have the two appetizers that we had decided to choose from, and we eventually went with the battered and fried asparagus. They were fine, and the portion size decent. The dipping sauces were all mayo based, though again, acceptable. When the food came out we were both disappointed. My bistro steak was over cooked and not seasoned at all. Once I added salt and pepper it was ok, but the portion size was small. Also the horseradish "cream" (really mayo again), was a decoration, not a condiment. The salad that came with it was arugula, diced canned beets and some oil. No seasoning or flavor. The waffle fries, while well cooked, had so much salt that I could only get through a third of them. My husbands half size of salmon was tiny, more an appetizer then a small meal. It was also waaaaay over cooked and dry. The only saving grace was the view, which was nice. Also, not counting in the review against the restaurant, the people seated next to made rude comments about us through their meal. We had asked to move tables because of the sun, and my husband listened to them talk to each other about how we had moved without asking, etc etc. $70 got us what I would judge about $40 in value. My advice is to go to Chesapeake City for food, all of the restaurants there give you better value and just as nice scenery. Get ice cream from the little ice cream parlor on the river. If youre passing through Georgetown towards your next destination, my only recommendation would be to Kitty Knight House for their drinks which you can have on their porch. Much better drinks and view.

My family and I were very excited to enjoy a lovely Mothers Day dinner at the Granary on the Sassafras River. We had been there several times in years past and experienced the decadent food and wonderful service. However this particular outing was ruined by awful service, all around, and mediocre food. Being that on the day we visited the establishment there was a limited menu that required $40/person we expected exceptional service and delicious food. As a party of 7 we were going to be spending at the very least $300, but we all ordered alcoholic beverages which elevated our bill quite a bit. Not only were 6 of the 7 drink orders incorrect, but one of our party of 7 was not served their drink at all. We requested the correct beverages, again, this time 5 of the 7 were correct but two were still wrong (we got a mojito when we ordered a mint julup, and received a whiskey sour when we requested a long island) needless to say this did not start off our meal in a pleasant tone. Then came ordering from the limited menu. We all placed our orders. When the waitress came back to check and see how everything was she mentioned that they were out of several of their sides and asked what replacements she could provide. When the meals came, two had incorrect sides with them and one was not the correct meal at all. We sent back the one meal that was incorrect all together and just ate the others as they came. Being that our bill came to over $500, we were extremely dissatisfied with the service and the food. Not only were the orders incorrect but the cooking instructions were not followed and the quality of food was far from what we had experienced in the past. Hopefully this was a fluke experience, but we will never be returning after such an awful dinner.

Was out 2nd trip this year. Will be our last. Years ago, the Granary upstairs and the grill downstairs was a decent place to go with very good food upstairs and decent bar food downstairs. Well, we were there a few weeks ago with a bunch of us and our kids. We were warned when we got there, that they were extremely busy and all the food for up and down came from the upstairs kitchen. And that we would wait 45 minutes for food. Ok, no problem, well wait and have a few drinks before our meals came. Were patient people and generally arent in a hurry at the bay. So I jokingly said, we wont hafta wait 45 minutes for drinks, will we? She said no, that wed be served right away and get our orders in. Ha!! We waited almost a half hour to get a drink or any service at all!! We went to the bar for our own drinks. Then when we FINALLY ordered food, we were there a goid hour and a half till it came out! Really?!! Yes!! It was not good either. We chalked it up to a bad fluke. That sometimes everyone has a bad day. So this weekend, we decide wed go upstairs foe a little nicer meal. It was after 7:30 and it wasnt packed. Got a table right away. Although it was cold as a meat locker in the place, we laughed that off. Drinks came out quickly, salad and soup soon there after THEN thats when it got bad again. We waited almost an hour for our food! I ordered the meatloaf, it was good. However my husband ordered salmon, our friend Mahi mahi. Both were overcooked and dried out. Very disappointing. Sure not like it use to be sadly. Guess well hafta venture to Chesapeake City and enjoy our meals there.

Granary Restaurant, Georgetown, MD We should have read the reviews on Google before we trekked over to this place. Plusses: the osprey in the nest were entertaining. Minuses: We ordered drinks and I had to ask for a glass for my beer. If I was sitting at a bar on an open dock drinking from a bottle might be fine but at a restaurant with white napkins I should not have to ask for a glass. Hubby ordered fish and chips. There was far more dough than fish. He loves fish and chips and found this to be close to the worst hes ever had. Fries were tasty but for $17 he should have been able to have FISH with his chips. I ordered the seafood combo. The plus was that all the seafood was broiled, the minus was the small portion. There might have been 3oz fish, really more like 2 oz of fish--easily could have been eaten in 2 bites, 4 medium shrimp and maybe a 2 oz crabcake. It came with rice pilaf and half a dozen asparagus spears. It was tasty but for $31 I would have liked more protein. It was diet portion size and I finished feeling like I wanted more seafood. No salad. No rolls. I still have no idea of our waitress name, she was far from friendly. We wont be returning and this used to be a favorite spot of ours.

Been to the Granary a few years ago and it was excellent, so I decided to take a few friends there the other night (Oct 2010) Things went from bad to worse. It all started when we found extremely sharp plastic shards in the bread rolls. My friends son found the first fragment and my wife then found another - about an 1/8" long and extremely sharp. I reported this to the staff. Then the starters arrived, 3 plates of steamed mussels were lukewarm, however, other dishes were fine. But the main course was a disaster. 2 of us ordered the Shellfish Scampi, and 2 ordered the Seafood combo. The shrimp had a very strong chemical taste and was inedible. In the Combo, the strange taste seemed limited to the shrimp, however, in the scampi which had a sauce, the taste was so strong it had tarnished everything in the dish. The taste was so strong and strange that we were actually afraid to eat the rest of the dish for fear of food poisoning. Overall, a very bad and unsettling experience.
