I am also a person who never writes poor reviews. I generally think that I do not have to be a customer of a place that has bad food or service. And this is punishment enough for an establishment. NOT this place. I eat a lot of Mexican food and like to try different restaurants This restaurant, the food and service were incredibly horrible. And the prices were high. For what youre getting, you shouldnt be paying $15 a plate. We were seated fairly quickly in the bar area becasue the dining room Mexican music was SO loud that it was annoying from the bar. We decided we would rather eat at the bar with the TV than to be in the dining room with the blaring music. Our waitress didnt know what beers they had available and had to ask someone in the back twice (the bar wasnt manned). Then we ordered our food and waited....and waited... and waited.... we were getting ready to leave when the food finally arrived. I ordered a beef enchalida and chile pableno. The pableno was soggy and burned in places, gross is about as best I can describe it. There wasnt much cheese inside it, or maybe I was just confused as to what was breading and what was cheese as it was all mushy. The enchalida was OK at best. It seemed really bland for Mexican food. My boyfriends meal wasnt much better. I complained about the food and the waitress seemed to not care at all. We paid our $45 and left and will NEVER return. All in all, I would rather eat at McDonalds than this restaurant (and I havent eaten there in over 3 years).

Dinner here on Monday 10/18 was absolutely terrible. First indications that there may be a problem was the drinks, my margarita tasted completely free of tequila and worse yet didnt even taste like a margarita at all. However, that paled in comparison to the grotesqueness of the sangria, which tasted like a combination of nail polish, mulling spices and weak fruit juice. The chips and salsa arrived quickly but did little to help the situation, why oh why would one put cucumber in salsa??? Much better salsa can be had from a random supermarket jar. The chicken quesadilla was only a marginal improvement, very little chicken which tasted like it was straight from grocery pre-cooked bag and a bit of cheese, with some kind of odd tasting tomato based sauce. I foolishly ordered paella and joked before it arrived "itll be spanish rice topped with seafood and some ranchero sauce". Well, lo and behold thats exactly what it was, just plain horrible. The mussels were so bad, probably several days past their prime, that I ate less than half of them. The fish tacos were the only thing served that werent awful, and they simply were not awful, not good though. Worst of all was the bill, $60 for that??? Yuck. Los Portales and Pachanga Grill are exponentially better options.

Mi Casa is a Mexican/Tex-Mex restaurant in Ellicott City that doesnt get a whole bunch of attention. The location certainly isnt prime and it definitely doesnt catch ones eye while driving by. I stopped by here with a large group after a football game and while it was a pleasant experience, theres certainly room for improvement. Upon entering the restaurant, youll notice that its got a pleasant atmosphere but it isnt anything special or for that matter, anything that will keep you coming back. Like many other restaurants, you get free chips and salsa and the salsa is fantastic and is served in a little tortilla bowl-- a nice touch. The food is good but you can do better in this area. However, the entree I ordered (Chicken Cancun) was simply fantastic and the gravy was extremely decadent and delicious. Still, the appetizers were just alright and the portions were a bit small given the high prices. Service was perfectly acceptable as well. Still, if youre looking for a superbly fun and welcoming atmosphere paired with great food, look elsewhere. If youre in the area and need some quick Tex-mex cuisine, then stop in at Mi Casa.

I was sad that we spent $30 here for two people and were not satisfied, we had to stop and get a pizza on our way home. I am from San Diego and used to authentic Mexican food with authentic portions. We ordered chips and queso ($6.50) for our appetizer. The cheese was too thick and it came out in this tiny dish with not enough chips to even use up that small amount of cheese. My husband and I ordered a burrito to share, the fiesta burrito, "the big one" according to our waiter. It was $14.95, which is more than double what I would normally pay for a good giant burrito (see picture). When they brought it out, it took my husband and I a minute to realize that THAT was our "big" burrito. We also ordered a side enchilada for my husband ($3.95) which was also disappointing and sad. I think their goal is to be an upscale Mexican restaurant, but the food quality of itself was not even very impressive. Our burrito had steak in it, which was fabulous, but it was really lacking the grilled veggies promised on the menu. It was quite bland. I would not recommended this location to anyone, nor will we be returning.

I have read the reviews here and I must disagree with those who did not like Mi Casas food. They must have grown up on Taco Bell and Don Pablos type chain restaurants. I grew up eating REAL Mexican food at home! This food is as close as it gets. When I left California and all of my friends and family (by marriage) that are great cooks, I searched everywhere for decent Mexican fare. I have been on the East coast from NJ to NC since 1983 and this family owned restaurant has the taste of Mexico down to a science. All I can say is "BUENO!" The salsa is made fresh daily! No part of it comes from a can! I can tell, since I make my own! The wait staff is kind and considerate and the menu selection is very good. They even make an excellent flan... I always take a piece home! So if you want a good night out, with the real flavor of Mexico, try Mi Casa!

After coming here I will not go to La Palapa unless Im dragged off. I gave this place a shot to try something new and it paid off. As a California native I found the tastes to be pretty close to home. They have chips that you can tell are hand cut and fried on site, homemade tortillas, and horchata ( it isnt on the menu ). I got to try the chilli Verde and had the Jack Daniels Fajitas. It got my seal of approval and I dont just hand that away for free. I had a golden margarita which was a pretty typical Cadillac and some churros. Overall impressed. Rocky the manager knows his customers. I was watching him greet his regulars by name and ask if they wanted their regular table and usual orders. It was a little pricey but we ordered the most expensive things and it was enough food for 2 meals. Ill be coming again.

My family thought wed try a "mom and pops" Mexican place so we went here. Our chips were stale, and when we told the waiter, he said "theyre freshly made", that was that! And oh by the way, you get the first chips and salsa free, after that they charge you... same with the drinks... they only give you one free refill. My husband ordered the burrito special, but at the end, we were charged the full price. They changed it after we mentioned it. It was a small burrito compared to the other Mexican restaurants weve been. My son ordered a plain cheese quesadilla, and he was charged $10. The food was okay, but I dont think well go back there again. The food wasnt bad, but its not great either. And for what they charge you, there are other places that give you a larger portion and taste better as well.
