My husband and I went for lunch today to use our Groupon. Food was good (not great), but service was lack luster and even rude. Server never cracked a smile or made much eye contact. She never informed us of the daily special and after talking to another couple this was par for the course. My husband and I had an appetizer and then wanted to split the 2-crab cake entree to save room for dessert. I asked the server if this was okay and she said yes, but she would need to bring us a plate for us to do the split ourselves. I was fine with that. Our food was delivered by a tall stuffy bald man who must have been the manager. While putting our food down with 2 plates he proceeded to rudely inform us that they normally dont allow splitting and he wanted us to take note for the next time (NOT!). Since we were seated in the side sunroom I am sure others could hear since he was not trying to be discrete. Our server indicated that it was okay so I was offended that we (the customer) were corrected after the fact. The manager should have informed the server of the policy for the next time someone asks to split an entree. I wont rush back! If you decide to go, you should be fine as long as you stay in your lane and follow the hidden rules.

The is the one of the rudest restaurants that I ever been! There was an extra 15 $ charge without even informing the party for using their plates for a birthday cake. We paid them over 200 $ for their food and they wanted to charge for their small plates!! In fact they said, it was 2.50 $ per an empty plate!! When we asked them to see if they could waive the fee since we were not informed before our order, the waiter responded, " You should have asked us first to bring the cake in," which was very once again, VERY RUDE, considering there was only a special kind of cake the birthday girl can eat. I would advise you to find another restaurant if you want to enjoy a nice group gathering and dont want to spoil your night. The manager was also very arrogant and honestly this was not even that of a great restaurant. They should try to look at a mirror of themselves once in a while and see how mediocre they are.

Amazing food and drinks! We held our wedding at The Kings Contrivance last September and could not have been happier. Our guests are still raving about the dinner! The wedding was for 120 and held on the lawn, the hors doeuvres and cocktails were inside, in the brick patio under a tent for dinner and then back inside for dancing and dessert. They made it easy - they were attentive and friendly. We had a huge thunderstorm during dinner and they ran food out from the house to the kitchen - no issues with service and everything was hot and delicious. I was amazed by how easy Richard was to work with. He was flexible about the menu, had great ideas and created a signature drink that everyone loved. We had the entire building and grounds for the day. The cost was unbelievably good - just an incredible value.

Typically, I am a rather accommodating diner but tonight was an enormous exception. I had the rehearsal dinner for my wedding at the Kings Contrivance three years ago and it was an exceptional experience. I am not sure what has happened since then but having just paid exorbitant amounts of money for food that was prepared wrong three times, one of which was completely raw, I find myself at a loss. The manager then dragged me out of my chair and into the lobby to essentially tell me "you have no idea what a medium piece of red meat looks like" and then served it to me uncooked. At $42 a plate, this is asinine. Invest in a meat thermometer and dont patronize your clientele. I dont expect to be served poorly prepared food and insulted in the same evening but here we are.

Pricey, but delicious and in a lovely setting. We sat in the porch-like addition on the restaurant (which was a house!) and the lighting from outside was lovely, plus from the window, we could see foxes frolicking out in the grass. I ordered (most of my party did, as well) the Surf and Surf, which is softshell crab, a jumbo lump crab cake, and an arugula salad. This was the best softshell crab I have had yet! As an appetizer, the roasted beet salad did not disappoint. For dessert, the hazelnut brownie was good and there was plenty to share. The meal timing was on point and the service, in general, was friendly and attentive.

This was our third time having brunch at the restaurant. And after each time we have said we are not coming back because its very overpriced. But, we decided to try it again. We were seated in the sunroom and it was very warm. We went there for brunch on a Sunday afternoon. The food was fair, but the crab cake meal was definitely not worth $42.00. There are many restaurants in the area that are reasonably priced and the food is just as good or better We will not dine here again.

This restaurant has gone through the cycles and is doing well again. Prices tends towards the upscale end but the food matches well. Steaks are flavorful and other entrees are well prepared. Ive gone here for work functions and they handle large parties well. Better than average wine list. Service is fine but not 4-star as you would expect from an upscale restaurant. Im not sure I would call it a French restaurant.

WE ATE AT THIS RESTAURANT IN AUG. 2017. I ORDERED THE CHICKEN PICATTA, VEGETABLES AND KEY LIME PIE. JUST 1/2 HOUR AFTER EATING I GOT EXTREMELY SICK FOR 6 HOURS, AND ALSO THE FOLLOWING DAY. THE OWNERS OF THE RESTAURANT DENIED I WAS SICK FROM THEIR FOOD. OF COURSE THEY WOULD DENY IT. I CAN TELL YOU THAT I GOT SICK ONLY FROM EATING AT THIS RESTAURANT. PLEASE, DO NOT EAT THERE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got married here and the staff was nothing but awesome. Two years ago my then girlfriend and I had one of our first dates at Kings Contrivance and the food and atmosphere were something that I did not expect. Nestled away in a nice quiet neighborhood and in an old mansion the food, bar, and staff make coming back an easy choice!

One of our favorite restaurants since the late 1970s! Ate there recently to celebrate my wifes 70th Birthday with dear friends from Columbia. Another marvelous meal with wonderful service. For a classy, romantic dining experience, you cant beat Kings Contrivance. Highly recommended.

I was treated by the staff as if I were invisible! The quest who entered the same time as me were greeted and properly seated while I was left standing there! I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT TO ANYONE OF COLOR!!! SPEND YOUR MONEY AT A PLACE THAT TREATS YOU WITH RESPECT!!!

Our family has been going here for 40 years, and we have never been disappointed in a meal. The service is impeccable, and the food is outstanding. Even when super crowded, the meals have always been served in a timely and friendly manner.
