We wanted to like Mokka...good prices, good location but the service is horrible. We went 4 times before completely writing it off. Its not unusual to wait by the hostess station for 10 minutes before someone even speaks to you. When you are seated expect to wait an exorbitant amount of time for your drinks, food & the bill. They might lie to you and say the non-smoking section is closed because they dont want to staff or clean both sides of the restaurant. Last night a staffer actually asked my friends and family to pack up their things and drinks and move to the smoking side after wed been seated for more than an hour. The younger staffers have a "too cool for school"..."I dont give a damn if you come back because I just work here until I get out of school" attitude. As far as the food, the French toast is good, everything else that weve tried has been just decent or under par.

While this place looks like an old 1980s banquet hall, its easy to overlook once the food comes. My husband and I both had french toast and it was incredible. I had their standard offering which was french toast coated in corn flakes and served with a creme brulee sauce and bananas. My husband had the daily special which was french toast coated in graham cracker crumbs, cheesecake sauce, cherry pie filling and whipped cream on top. I ordered mine a la carte which was well worth the $4 price and hubby got the bacon and potatoes with his for only $7. Even the potatoes were good. They were coated lightly with something that made them REALLY crispy. If Im ever back in Newport Ill definitely eat here again. The only reason Im rating it a 4 is because I think they should have remodeled at the new location before opening for business. Food alone though Id rate it a 5.

My family and I just had the worst dining experience at this restaurant. Seating took a long time and the food took a long time to get to the table. I noticed one table of customers that left because they got tired of waiting. By the time we got our food, most of it was cold. The meats were overdone and the eggs were half raw. Instead of remaking the food to make things right, everything was just microwaved. My wifes eggs went from half raw, after being sent back twice, to dried out and inedible. We got nothing but excuses and a crappy attitude from the "manager." She kept interrupting us and did NOTHING to make things right. I have never been so disrespected by any restaurant management. Everything about this dining experience was terrible.

After having a few decent experiences here I suggested Mokka for lunch. We arrived around 11:45, it was not busy at all yet it took about 10 minutes to get our drinks. Our server seemed new so I wasnt upset, however, I asked for no tomato on my chicken club, which I still got, no big deal I just moved it but when I asked for onions I was told it would cost 50 cents! Really? Thats just silly. Not once during our meal were we offered re-fills, a few minutes after going to the bar to get more diet the server finally offered the rest of the table a refill (after everyone wax finished eating). Everyone in my group agreed the food tasted great but the other 3 stated they would not try Mokka again solely based on the ridiculously slow service.

The breakfast here is phenomenal, my favorite is the Gravy Train, they are also well known for their French toast and they also serve a mean parfait. As far as dinner and lunch Ive had a couple bad experiences with food that was not breakfast. To be fair, I havent had dinner or lunch here in years as a result of that. So its likely that the food has changed as far as non breakfast items go. It seems like there is a high turnover rate for the waitstaff, which is unfortunate.

My friend and I visited on 10-30-15. We ordered the Chicken Chimichanga Dinners. We found them to be nothing short of a tasteless, frozen dinner sitting on melted Cheese Whiz. It was totally disgusting and we reported our complaint asking to speak to the manager, who never came to discuss our table. I followed up with a phone call asking that a manager call me back....which they have not done! I will not he returning. I suggest they remove that item from their menu.

This is my fav breakfast place, granted I love goetta, but their french toast is amazing too. I usually get the french toast with a side of goetta. I have to admit Ive never eaten their lunch, but have never heard complaints from friends. Unfortunately, I have to agree that their service isnt always great. The waitress has always been friendly, but they never seem to be ready for when it gets busy. However, it never keeps me from coming back! :D

While doing a staycation in the Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati area, we were looking for a good place for breakfast. After a quick Google search, Mokka came up. This was a great find. The service was great, the food was really good and at a reasonable price. We frequent First Watch often in Cincy, and Id rate Mokka right there with them at better prices! Ill be adding this to my local places to go now!

After dodging a near catastrophe at neighboring Katharinas, we walked a few short blocks and discovered this little place. Although the atmosphere was non-descript and nothing stood out as exceptional, the Greek salad was fresh and tasty and the service was fast and friendly. Not sure I would have normally gone 4 stars for this place, but after the disaster a few blocks away, this was a good find!

My first visit to Mokka was at their old York St. location. The food was great but the place was small and crowded. My second visit, to their new 5th St. location was excellent. I enjoyed fast, friendly service and AMAZING french toast. You must go and check it out. I would recommend getting there early (9 am), they got busy around 10:30.

I usually only come here for breakfast/early lunch and have always enjoyed the experience. The place is generally busy but Ive rarely had to wait for a table. Good drink selection plus a surprising amount of salads and vegetarian options (though Im not a vegetarian so I havent tried them). I especially like the Loxwich!

The staff is very friendyly, however service is a little slow even when they arent terribly busy. I went for lunch with a co-worker and something that should have taken 45 minutes took almost 2 hours. That being said, the food was great, your typical diner/deli food but better quality than I would have imagined!

Good food, but very poor value. I got the geotta frittata and my wife got the loxwich and a cup of tomato soup. The soup might have been 5 oz, and her sandwich was very small; my portion was small as well. $21 before tip and we left hungry. Too many better choices to try this place again, sorry.

This is an excellent place for breakfast. Ive been here many times in the past 5 years, but only for breakfast. We always have good service and usually too much food. There can be a long wait, but not if you plan ahead and go a bit early.
