Me and my coworkers order from Starving Artist on a regular basis cause the food is good and the prices are reasonable, however the service stinks. The woman whom answers the phone (the owner- we were told) is very rude. Maybe we caught them on a bad day but to treat customers in that manner is uncalled for. We placed an order for 8 and gave our number- somewhere along the way the number was transposed when given to the driver so when it was delivered by the driver he was very upset that he had to wait on us at the front desk and could not get a hold of anyone as the number he called was incorrect. He was extremely mean and hateful. When a call was made to voice our concerns, the woman stated that we need to make sure to give a correct number next time and that when "we" order we never have our payment ready and they do not have time to wait on us. She proceeded to tell us that she had four other calls to take and that we needed to get over it, "Thats just life- get over it". I do not expect perfection and mistakes happen to everyone but I do feel that respect should be given and that a business owner should care about their customers. No wonder the driver was so rude as he has her for an example of how to treat customers.

The customer service I received today over the phone was appauling. The young woman who answered the phone was extremely rude and not helpful at all. I work for a large company who orders food at least 1-2 a week for lunch. We have attempted to find the website to look up a menu and have failed. After learning that I read a "really outdated menu posted on Urban Spoon, I was told to look up the new menu and call back. Im not sure if this young woman is always this hateful or if she woke up on the wrong side of the bed today. I entered the website she gave me and still, to no avail found nothing. Therefore I called back to verify that I was entering the correct information. She clearly stated that she did not understand what i was doing "wrong" but it wasnt that hard to find. After this I should have given up and went somewhere else but my co-workers and i love the food. I located the website and when I called to place the order, a gentleman answered. When I requested that a few menus be sent with our order he proceeded to inform me that their menu was online! REALLY? I dont care how good the food is. I was a server for over 10 years and would never speak to anyone the way I was spoken to today.

This little local place feels more like going over to your friends house for dinner than a diner. Theres no handout menu, the customer can usually get what they want but they arent always right, and you never know what dessert might be there. However, these sandwiches, soups, fries, teas, and cheesecakes taste miles better and fresher than anything else out there, try as they might to replicate the home cooked feel with a slurry of chemicals. After taking a food tour in NYC that stopped at a lot of hole in the wall local cafes, Starving Artists would be my first stop in a Louisville version. If youre skipping this because it doesnt look like the "McChain Deli" youre used to, youre missing out!

I have known the owners for many years, no idea they could make such amazing sandwiches. I have gone and picked it up a couple of times for my coworkers. I dont know if they know that it is called "The Starving Artist" but its not unusual to hear them say... "Rick James! Rick James!! I think it feels like a Rick James day!" Love that Sandwich. On a different note... As far as the attitudes shown to some customers. For real people? Your calling a lunch place at lunch time. Id be interested to see what kind of attitude you show at the busiest time of your day. Your not going to Starving Artist because they kiss you a** but because it is d*mn good eating. Just a thought.

What a great experience! Incredible sandwiches, and very friendly staff. We came in from out of town and got our food to go to eat at Holsopple Brewery. The Jimmy Hendrix was ridiculous - the chipotle mayo will be burned into my memory forever. So delicious. My egg salad/pimento cheese/bacon sandwich was sooooo much buttery delicious goodness. The potato soup was clearly made from scratch and was beyond amazing. Next we are in Louisville there is no way I wont be stopping here for some amazing food with a side of honest to goodness kindness.

Always fantastic food, damn good prices, and the staff is pretty great. Dont be put off by the lady who answers the phone when you call in; theyre often really busy, and she strikes me as a no-nonsense kinda person. Get your order and move on! The deliveries are always fast (I am really nearby, though). The only crappy thing about this place is the hours. I wish they were 24/7; Id never eat anywhere else! Support your local businesses, which Starving Artist makes an easy, highly enjoyable thing to do!

I eat at Starving Artist every day of the week. They have a different special everyday that keeps me coming back for more. Since I have started eating at Starving Artist I have lost 35lbs, and the food is great. A different sandwich and soup every day for around $5.83 (tax included in price), you cant beat that. Plus the service is always great. Tim and Angie (husband and wife team) are always there to serve you up something fresh that will get you through your day.

Love the Starving Artist! Great food! My favorites are the Vangogh, Monet, and Beethoven. Everyday there is a different special and fresh homemade soups that arent offered on the regular menu. You can eat in or order it to-go. The prices are even great too! Ask about catering services for any special occasions!

Love this place! Prices are good, portions are large, and service is friendly. I always order the Jim Morrison, and its amazing! I love that they deliver too, so I dont have to leave work. The only thing is I wish they were open on weekends, and/or later in the evening.

I love this place and have since I was a massage student...but whoever they have answering the phone these days is rude and impatient...almost huffy. It really dampens my enthusiasm to come here.

I love this place, full of talented people! Just check out some of the artwork they have! Made by one of your very own artesian sandwich makers! A must try!
