TLDR: The staff was unusually rude, and the chips and salsa are over-priced. Firstly, and in general, I want to say that the chips and salsa at DT are horribly over-priced. The chips aren’t that great, and the salsa isn’t anything special; not anything better than On The Boarder. Charging $3.50 is way too much. I would be fine paying a $1.50, which is about what it’s worth. The other food is great, and I would order chips every time if they weren’t so expensive. Pertaining to the experience a friend and I had today, the wait staff was extremely rude, which is unusual for DT. Normally, all the waitresses are nice and accommodating, but today we saw the other side of the coin. A friend and I were hoping to play Monday Night Trivia at DT, and I called in the afternoon to ask what time it started, as it wasn’t listed online. The girl who answered the phone told me it started at 8, but my friend said she was pretty sure it was 7, so I called back to make double-check. I told the girl (it was the same person) that I had just called about the trivia, and I wanted to make sure it started at 8. Sounding annoyed, she told me, “Yeah, it’s 8” and hung up. Well, I arrived about 7:45, my friend running a bit late, to find that trivia was already half-way over because it had started at 7. I sat at the bar and was waited on by Megan, who seemed, from the start, in a bad mood. She gave me a water, and I told her that I would have another person joining me, but that she was running late. Megan came over a few times in a ten-minute period, asking me if I wanted a drink, or chips, and finally asking, “Is someone else coming?” I’ve been a waiter before, and I know people sitting in your section costs you money, so I assured her that someone was coming, and it wouldn’t be long. My friend showed up, and looked over the menu, which seemed to annoy Megan, who was ready for us to order. We placed our order, and Megan asked me a question that I couldn’t hear because it was very loud with trivia going on behind us. Megan groaned, and shouted “For your pork! Flour or corn?” like I was an idiot. I told her corn, and my friend ordered salsa. I told her about the extra price, and my friend turned to Megan to cancel the order of salsa, not realizing that Megan was taking the order of the couple next to us. Megan held up a finger to her, like you would to an annoying child that’s making too much noise, looked at us and snapped, “Can you guys give me just one moment please!”, sighed audibly, and rolled her eyes. Even the couple who’s order she was taking exchanged a look with us. Megan finished their order, turned back to us and said, “What?”, and my friend cancelled her order. I tried to intervene, and said that she didn’t know that they cost extra, and Megan just turned around muttering “Whatever.” She came back later with our food, placed some napkins in front of us, and skulked off, not asking if we needed anything else, which would have been helpful, because we wanted extra limes (which we knew we wanted, but didn’t get a chance to say, because Megan walked off before we could ask). We were finally able to flag her down, from her hiding place at the end of the bar, and asked for more limes, which she responded to by giving a curt nod and rolling her eyes again; but she gave us some limes, and good ones from the bar, not the puny squares from the kitchen. We were able to pay without any more incidents and took our leave promptly. Again, most of the time, the waitresses are very nice, and seem happy to be at work and are friendly with the customers. I’ve also waited in a place that’s very loud, with a lot of customers packed into a tiny space, on a day when you really don’t want to be there, but this was over the top, and just flat out rude; not bad service, but plain disrespectful. I’ll be returning to DT, because their food is incredible, but I’m weary.

Pretentious and overpriced. Waiter was good, at first. Asked about the pricing for three tacos, was misunderstood twice (tacos are $3 each, if you order 3 OF THE SAME its 8.50, you cannot mix and match which was our question), then he answered yes and we ordered. Tacos were tiny but very full and not very exciting. We tried three seperate tacos each which gave the table a total of 6 off of a menu of 10 options giving us a really good variety. They were piled high but the flavor just wasnt anything special, the barbacoa tasted like roast, just roast; and the steak was just some grilled beef. Continue down the line of ingredients. They tasted like parts to a whole not a marrying of flavors that make a whole. Queso blanco was passable though with a chipotle lime undertone. The bill comes and the problem from earlier rears its head, I ask again about the pricing and our confusion, he tells us that the 8.50 is the price for 3 of the same only, I tell him that that was what we asked him and he had already told us yes. Instead of offering to help or fix the problem he tells us "with taxes it works out to about the same" if you arent aware 22.50+ tax= 24.14; 21.50 (the price with the discount)+ tax= 23.07. A difference of 1.07. This isnt much however with taxes it does not work out to the same, that is not how taxes works. Overall I am not impressed by bland food and especially not bland over priced food. Service was bad, atmosphere was trying way too hard. Everything that is going wrong with Wichita "upscale" dining is contained in one small building called District that used to be a really good irish pub.

The food is AMAZING, but is overshadowed by poor customer service. Weve been a few times, but were definitely disappointed the last two. Most recent visit ended with being overcharged. Ordered 3 tacos, which is supposed to be $8.50 but was charged the single taco rate of $3 each. Now Im not one to get upset by $.50, but the waiter handled it badly and then grabbed my credit card out of my hand. The trip before then, they charged a 20% gratuity on an 8 top, without having it listed anywhere. Not on the menu or anywhere in the building. The owner doesnt seem to care that his menu is misleading and have been charged multiple prices for the same thing. Very over it. Will not be back.

Great, Simple Concept. Yet, Not Executed Appropriately. Food not 100% exponential of a authentic "Distrito" taquería style. Salsa & Guac too "cilantro-ey". Service friendly but slow and not guest-focussed. Neither empathic nor 1st time customer-helping. Left with the impression that District is just there to make a buck (actually $3) on cheaply (and poorly) made tacos. Need more variety. Options. p.s. Please tell the non-English speaking folks what "Lengua" really means and Dont insult the gastro connoisseurs by pretending to serve "Barbacoa" when it really is Not!
