I love going to PerKup, of course, for the dedicated care my picky order is OBVIOUSLY prepared with & since the first time, CONSISTENT AWESOMENESS everytime! I had no idea the jewel I had discovered in the little corner PerKup started in! Now, some years & a move to be able to serve more of us, the bigger place is still the gem it began as! Family owned & ALWAYS WORKING at something to make a great place greater! ONE of the coolest things I notice is theres often a conversation between customers at other tables/booths or as they wait, enter or leave happily STUFFED! The atmosphere feels like a "PerKup family" of its own! If youre extra blessed one of their mini DO EVERYTHING & ANYTHING hostesses/bussing & table wiping servers~in~training will be in the house! GREAT FOOD IN A HAPPY PLACE~PERFECT! :) Obviously much care, effort & hands on attention to all the little details is the standard at PerKup for the owners & each staff member~GREAT CREW! Thank you!

This was our first trip to perk up cafe. I really wanted to try the coffee. I really liked the triple shot white chocolate mocha. It was the best part of the meal. I decided to try the biscuits and gravy. It came with eggs and hashbrowns. My wife ordered an omelet and added some pancakes. The biscuits and gravy were ok but they were missing the good old fashioned peppered gravy taste Im use to. The biscuits were kind of hard but had good flavor. The eggs were cooked perfect and the hash browns were good. My wife enjoyed her omelet she said it was a bit under seasoned. It was a nice little place that felt more like a small town dinner then a place you would find in West des moines. I might go back and give it another try. It was all about what I would say was a lack of seasoning might be the only thing holding me back.

Nice hometown clean place. Will be back again, but not too often because of the lack of value. Highlights: Home made jams and jellies are delicious Revenge Sauce is the tastiest sauce Ive had - you can add it to anything (Its not a really hot sauce, its similar to Outbooks blooming onion sauce with more flavor and just tad more kick) Omelets were cooked perfectly, not dry and overdone like most places Taco hash browns are a must try along with the French Toast The owners are there running the show, very friendly. Negatives: Value - Taco hash browns are $4.50 (not a large portion either) Value - $9.00 omelet only comes with toast, nothing else They are missing Skillets (Hashbrown with fixings topped with Eggs)

Tiny glass of warm milk - $2. Hostess had a line at the register so I had to stand in the hall waiting to have someone seat me. Hash browns were not very crispy and too much oil. Wasnt crowded but food took some time to arrive and the plates cooled down before I could finish... big draft from the front door from people coming and going. Suggest you avoid the tables in the center of the room and ask for a booth on an inside wall as long as the weather is cold. Service was okay but couldnt catch the attention of the waitress because talking to the hostess and other waitress.

Visiting Des Moines from Kansas City and found this restaurant on Yelp rated very highly. This place doesnt disappoint. Service was friendly. Food was great and they made the best mocha Ive ever had. The french toast was as good as everyone said. Although, the french toast is so unique its hard to compare it to other french toast. I highly recommend checking this place out. Come early though. Its not very big and fills up fast.

Eating here as we speak. This place is terrific. It is very clean. The staff is very nice and professional. The food we had was amazing.... Biscuits and gravy, French toast, pancakes, eggs and hash browns. I do like the coffee unlike the 4 star reviewer (party pooper). Admittedly it doesnt have the cafe vibe I expected but they hit homeruns on so many other points that I give this a 5 star review EASILY.

Im truly saddened to say, Perkup you changed the menu and not for the better. This was my go to spot for the best breakfast I ever eat in my life. However, this last visit on Saturday was sad and very disappointing. Please go back to way you were. Your French toast was to die for now its just dead.

Delicious! I was looking for a lil somethin better than hotel breakfast and found this gem. Talk about fabulous French toast and eggs. Great portions for the price, excellent service, huge coffee cups with good coffee. What more do you want? Limited hours too; get it while its good. :)

Take our kids here most Sundays. Have been going since they were located on Douglas when they were just a couple of blocks from us and only had a handful of tables for seating. Its a little bit further away now but it is our familys favorite and always the kids pick for breakfast!!

Quaint, cozy, friendly atmosphere. Many food items are homemade and delicious. The mocha was maybe the best that Ive ever had. Had the "marshall", and it was super good. The French toast was a different style than Ive had before and really good. I highly recommend this place!

We had to wait for a short time, but the food, coffee, and service made up for it. One of the best breakfasts Ive had in a long time. Most certainly beats any of the big chain breakfast places. We will be bringing family and friends here for breakfast when they come to town.

This is seriously one of the best hidden gems in Iowa. The staff are friendly and its family owned and operated. The food is absolutely amazing and you dont have to deal with that Diner smell or dirty floors. It is by far the cleanest and most eccentric Cafe in all of Iowa.

First timer. Atomosphere was great. Service was friendly and the food was cooked to perfection. This is our new favorite destination for breakfast and we are excited to experience the lunch menu as well. Well done, we will return. Will be recommending to all.

Perkup has an awesome breakfast menu-- we love the hashbrown tacos and French toast. They also make a lot of great coffee beverages. Service there has always been good and the man at the register is genuinely interested to know how your meal was.

The food and service was outstanding! The biscuits and gravy are delicious. The only negative we had was the coffee is bad. We love good coffee and it was pretty awful. This wouldnt keep us from going again when were in town visiting family.

This is our Saturday go to place for brunches. The place is always packed and has a family owned vibe. Their coffee is great, a must have for a place that serves breakfast. My favorites are the Mama Mia omelet and their hash brown taco.

Weve been regulars since they opened. Great food, and FANTASTIC staff. Really fun atmosphere. Best omlettes ever. Always coming up with new stuff like the hash brown taco. Be there by 9 on the weekend to avoid waiting.
