In the 1950s this place used to be called Stubs place...named after Stub Smithson...one of the many Smithsons of Perry. His brother Mutt ran the local grocery store located out the front window at the corner of Railroad and Otley. Mutt used to have a pair of binocular that hed watch his brothers coming and goings. Mutts wife MARY was the Post Master of Perry! Walter Smithson ran "Walts Sporting Goods"...my uncle. Very nice man. The Smithson family lived at 1318 Otley (now torn down). My mother Velma E. Ward (Smithson) lived at this address on Otley. Many fond memories. Do anybody remember the POPCORN cart that sold delicious bags of fresh popcorn at the corner of 2nd Street & where the Pattee Hotel crosses? BTW...noticed your Miller Lite banner on your website. SMALL WORLD...Velmas son (Robert Ward, me) ended up being the Director of Advertising for Miller Brewing Company in Milwaukee from 1985-1994. Tastes Great...Less Filling The Crooked Rail has got to be great. Stub kinda ran its predecessor.

Place has went down hill. Trash through out the bar and it looks like somewhere ransacked the bar and they just left it all. Sad for a local favorite of Perry for decades.
