Cool place...open space, night lighting. Problem is, you cant tell who the employees are since there are no uniforms or name tags. When a company doesnt invest in a uniform or dress code for their employees, its pretty risky. It also gives the message that there may be financial problems. The servers were not even wearing aprons. I had read reviews that West Des Moines water is horrible, so I opted to order bottled water or a San Peligrino only to find out, they dont carry bottled water or San Peligrino. I ordered an Arnold Palmer, but could still taste the bad West Des Moines Water and would have much preferred a bottled water of a sort. And even though they claim to be a "from scratch" kitchen, theyre tziki sauce was "still frozen", therefore, was not available for the Hummus, Tapenade, Tziki platter that I ordered. Made me wonder if its really made from scratch since it was "still frozen". Flat Bread Pizza was not crispy but had a nice flavor. The only reason Id ever go back to Bar Louie is if a friend wants to meet there. Nothing on the menu is special and the wait staff isnt professional. Very tacky.

I like this place, and I would have given five stars if not for a dissapointment. I came here two weeks ago, and was in love with the food and service, but dissapointed in the cleanliness. I asked for the manager my first time here. I pointed out the dirty stainless steel behind the bar. The dirty bar, and the dirty tables. He was proactive and grabbed a rag and started bussing tables himself. But the day I was her, he was the only person I saw with a rag in their hands. Place is busy tonight, and one thing is still the same. The water stains and grime runs on the stainless steel behind the bar. The dirty bar, and the culture of cleanliness. I honestly would hate to see the kitchen, because, once again, the food was great. Ill be back again in 3-4 weeks, because , its a cool atmosphere, the srevice is good, and the food is great. Third times the charm Bar Louie!! Are you going to teach your team to clean?? I certainly hope so. I will update my review to five stars if I ever find this place clean, the way a high quality establishment like this should be!!

Overall good American pub and bar food, great atmosphere, and decent specials. The worst part was the waitress who didnt offer any recommendations after we told her it was our first time. Upon ordering an appetizer, she says: "Oh I wouldnt order that, its not that good". She then suggested items that were on special on a different day than when we were there and told us to come back a few hours later. Food arrived quickly and the burgers were very good. Fries were good. The Totchos appetizer was good too. We had to ask for refills, she never offered, and after finishing our food we waited 20 minutes for her to check on us and when we asked for the check she had an attitude with us and informed us she had been busy doing the dishes. Totally terrible experience with her but the food was good.

Service was terrible. Took at least 10 min. Before anyone noticed we were there. We came on a Sunday for a late lunch around 3. So there wasnt that many people vs. Waiters there. One waiter in paticular cussed about the tip he was given at the table next to us. And then left that table dirty for our entire stay. That ruins your atmosphere. The food was just ok. With all the different places to eat in Des Moines, this will not be a place we come back to. Kinda sad about that. Seemed like a cool place.

My mother and I came here after Christmas shopping at the mall. We decided to sit at the bar since it was just the two of us. Our server, Chris, was VERY friendly and helpful! We both got a Martini and they were delicious! We ordered the Voodoo Burger to share and it AMAZING! It was juicy, flavorful, the bun was soft and buttery, we each ate half and were very satisfied. Chris suggested the tater tots which were very crispy and not overly greasy! We would recommend this place to anyone!!

July 2014 - Best restaurant EVER!! Sit in Haileys section :) June 2015 - I changed the review from a 5☆ to 1☆. Highly disappointed the last two visits. Visit one, out of blue moon beer, out of Buffalo wings, and calamari so overcooked you cannot chew it. Visit two, we ordered 1 hour ago an were not given any indication as to why until we asked at 50 minutes past order. Short in the kitchen? I wish we would have known ahead of time...

This was the second time Ive come here and we got terrible service again. We had to wait almost 20 minutes to be serviced after our first drink (even though we were sitting at the bar and there were really 4 bar tenders working). We decided to just get the check and leave, to which we were given a very snobby response of "thanks". We absolutely will not come back.

Went for late night Happy hour and got 3 apps 2 beers and soda for 25$. Decent flat bread pizza and wings and calamari not bad for half price. Service was ok. Not the greatest but sufficient. Had to wait few minutes for 2 nd beer. Will be going back for Tuesday 5 $ burger deals.

My wife and I visited Bar Louie about 1am 2 apps 2 drinks $22.00 who does that ? Bree was our bartender. OMG this woman knows how to pour drinks! The food was hot, good, and very quick! Went back the next night same bartender different apps same results! A wonderful experience!

Service was great, the waitress made some good food recommendations too. Had a strawberry lemonade that was really fresh and tasted awesome. Ordered the buffalo chicken flat bread and it was super tasty!
