Sooo..... trying to be fair and accurate because of the arbitrary reviews on this place I read. I dined at this place one Tuesday evening, walking in and taking a seat at the bar. There was a family party of about eight people seated at a table and three guys at the bar. There was one waitress/bartender and a cook plus two other people who may/may not have worked there. Over the course of the next hour a party of four was seated and people came and went at the bar. The place is not run-down or a dive bar or even dirty but does have a fair amount of crud, unfinished remodeling, and the general half-assery you find with many bar/restaurants. Both the clientele and the staff were an eclectic mix of looks and personalities. The bartender greeted me with a smile and was pleasant the entire evening. I ordered the Three-meat combo with a half-rack of ribs, shaved brisket, and shaved smoked pork. I half-heartedly picked the cornbread as a side. While I was waiting for my food I decided to read some reviews about the place. The reviews were all over the scale. I decided to ignore the bad reviews and judge for myself and am glad I did. All three meats were absolutely wonderful. The ribs were not overcooked and falling off the bone but moist, tender, and flavorful. The brisket had a great smoke flavor that didnt need sauce to make it great. The smoked pork was also superb. It was the craziest thing but the cornbread may have been the best I have ever had. I have to state that I was working in the area and talked to some of the locals about the place, after I had already eaten there. My understanding is that some of the cooks there are better than others, which may explain the mixed reviews on the food. I would go back again but only if the same guy is cooking!

My wife and I have been frequenting this restaurant for quite some time now. This place has, hands down, the best smoked meat in the area. It also has an amazing breakfast menu. Dont bother with the steaks or any of the burgers. Stick with the meats. All off the meat is smoked with applewood, and served "naked", which means no sauce. And it really doesnt need any sauce. The riblets meal, for the price, is unbeatable. For less than ten dollars, you get a whole pile of riblets, plus 2 sides and a bread. And the sides are not only made there, not in a factory, the portions are HUGE! You will not go home hungry. If pork isnt your thing, get the smoked half-chicken meal. This isnt 4 separate pieces of chicken to make a "half", but the entire chicken is sawed in half. The beef brisket sandwich is delicious too, especially with the homemade sauces. The breakfast meals are CHEAP and also are huge. The chicken fried steak is the size of the entire plate. The only reason I give four stars is that they really need to work on the little things. The food is great, theyve really got the food down. The service is the problem. Expect your drink glass to go empty, and then to be completely ignored as the wait staff walk by you. Expect to receive your side salad WITH your meal, not before. Expect to wait quite some time for your food. Expect the entire establishment to be extremely loud, as everyone seems to scream at each other. And dont order the cheese n chips! All these issues aside, its worth it, especially for the price.

Food was excellent. Not a welcoming atmosphere. Our young female server spent the whole time talking to 1 guy eating and drinking at the bar. (Maybe she hoped he would give a better tip?) Seemed almost inconvenienced to serve us and the 1 other table. We both had water, on with lemon and one without. She even mixed them up when she returned briefly after refilling them. After she brought the food we had to request barbecue sauce and then wait while she did something else first. Not sure she noticed when I left although only 2 other people in the place. We are not planning on returning due purely on service.

The food was excellent. The service needs serious attention! My co-worker and I stopped by around 4pm on Sunday afternoon. There was 1 guy sitting at the bar and 2 people at another table during our time there. The server took a few minutes to get to us to take our order. From there she seemed to be rushing us to finish and leave. Not a very welcoming attitude. I might have ordered more food to go for later tonight since I am at a hotel for work in the area..... If you stop by I would recommend that you find a different place if Dahnya is serving tables.. I am posting this on the day we were there, 4/2/17.

I ordered take-out from Hog Stop as a last resort when being stuck in Council Bluffs during a snow storm. When I arrived, I was told that they were out of the meat I ordered and quickly asked me for another option. This was fine. Then, they offered me a drink while I waited. I greatly appreciated the free drink, and was really impressed with the way the staff handled the situation. Not only was the service I received great, but the food was fantastic! You get a huge meal for the price, and the sides are huge, unique, and fresh. All together, I was very impressed with Hog Stop.

The young male waiter ran around the place like a chicken with her head cut off but with the mentality of a tweaker. We were halfway through our otherwise delicious meal before getting our drinks and then he butts into a conversation we were having with a pompous attitude. The food was great but I will not go back just because of the service.

I went in for the delicious cornbread but had to leave after seeing her picking up my food with her bare hands after handing money. Wash your hands then wear clean gloves. Thats food industry standards. Ive done "serve safe" and so should your employees. Food is good. The way in which its prepared is disgusting.

The food was great. Very moist, tender, and every bite was pleasant. The waitress are awesome, friendly, and attentive. I started not to come here because I prefer southern style Or Texas style BBQ but I am glad that I gave this place a try. Next time I am passing through, I will definitely be stopping again.

The bartender was awesome. The waitress was very rude and had forgot some of my order and tried arguing with me and the person who i had asked where my food was, when she finally brought it to the table she had a serious attitude. The food wasnt good at all. Overall a very disappointing visit.

Great food. Great service. Everyone was very polite and friendly. The owner came and chatted with us. Need more down home small restaurants like this in American. If your in the Omaha area, Just map it out on Google Map. Give em a try. Youll be glad you did.
