The only reason I am giving it a one star us because 0 isnt an option. 2 nights ago, JAY LOU (SP?) THE BARTENDER, possibly barback, immeadiately after witnessing my brother walk in, makes a comment about my brother being gay. Apparently, he looked like my mother...????. I quickly ask him to fix this, by apologizing, and he starts arguing with me. At which point i start yelling at him and he acts like hes going to jump over the bar and fight me, to the extent in which the other bartender had to restrain him. the manager attempted to comfort me by telling me that this particular employee is alot like donald trump, says what is on his mind. I ask for the owners name and phone number repeatedly, and am refused. I will never again be a patron of jakes. I was only there for 30 to 45 minutes.... planned on spending alot more money, honestly. I was furious and incredibly disappointed. I told all my friends and spent my money somewhere else.

My boyfriend and I had barely ordered our first drink before the bartender started being rude. My boyfriend asked him if they did anything for birthdays and the bartender very rudely snapped back that if we could celebrate everyones birthday his was in August. Im sorry but as a person having worked in the service industry and sales I have to say a simple, "No. We cannot give you a shot for your birthday" would have worked fine. Terrible service. Terrible place. We immediately felt unwelcome. I wouldnt recommend it to anyone. We are people that can throw down a few and ALWAYS tip well. Needless to say I left a zero dollar tip, we chugged our 1 drink and left. I would give it zero stars if I could. What a waste of space!

Most un-American bar Ive visited. Phelps made it clear that guns dont belong there, even if youre behaving yourself. Hes the most arrogant person youll meet this year. He hates our American constitution. He wanted to drag me outside after I simply asked why he felt this way about guns in general. I hope he gets educated. I gladly left, what a douche bag! I was carrying of course ;)

My wife, sister-in-law go in and have a couple of beers. Well my sister in law had soda- our dd. The bartender kept taking shots, and after not giving him a tip took our beer and soda and poured them out. Needless to say Ankeny p.d. was involved in order to keep me from kicking his butt. Terrible bar!

I asked the bartender what was on tap and he told me to go look, he didnt have time to tell me. Terrible customer service. Never go to this bar, worst service and bar ever. Not only that they over charged me for the drinks by $10. Terrible business, please save yourself the trouble and never go here.

As a tourist, this place gave me a fantastic example of good ol fashioned American spirit and atmosphere. I will be returning to Jakes Pub for many weekends to come. Great staff and the friendliest customers Ive ever met.

My favorite Ankeny bar! Very laid back, yet upbeat--games, jukebox, flatscreen TVs for every big game, sometimes fun events/live music--definitely a hidden gem! Phelps is a lot of fun, and will give you great service!

Genuine, Friendly & Welcoming! I walked in for a quick drink and to scope the place out and was beyond pleasantly surprised! Affordable drinks, and a kicka** bartender was an added bonus :-)
