This has been my favorite Chinese place to eat in Ames for years and years, especially after Cocost closed for good. The food was always fast and tasty at a decent price! Unfortunately I called here the other day for a pick-up order about an hour before they closed and got the rudest guy on the phone. He answered "Hello?" I said um is this Mayhouse thinking I had the wrong number. He replied, "Yes this is Mayouse, what do you want!" I then said are you kidding me, thats how you answer the phone to a business where paying customers call to spend their $... I was immediately turned off and told him I dont want anything from you anymore and hung up. It was my favorite place to eat but now they lost a loyal customer. Rudeness and poor customer service is just as important to me as the taste of the food. The new and coming Panda Express is going to get all my business from here on out sorry to say...

This place is hands down the best chinese restaurant in town. Have you been stressed out by finals or school in general head to May House for all the comfort food your heart desires. This place serves your food on gold plates with the service of Greek Goddesses. If only this food could pay bills I would have my life long partner. And all yours for only $8. Make sure you have cash because no other food deserves a stupid credit card or check. Straight hard earned American currency is the only thing they accept. Put your phone down because their is no need for pictures. This food will be better when its making butterflies in your stomach. Thank you May House for serving me since 2013

This is definitely the best Chinese food in Ames. It is either a hit or miss. If you are expecting the typical American Chinese food, you will not be too happy. Definitely authentic Chinese food if you know what to order. The specials are great! I recommend ordering "special flavored chicken" and "master pork", which are all very popular dishes, especially the chicken one. I wouldnt recommend the typical American Chinese food, but for the special menu, you can not find any as great as May House in Ames!! The only downfall, is that they dont take credit cards so HAVE CASH!

May House is amazing, after a long day at school, theres nothing I crave more than a plate of rice(being south east Asian myself). The massive portions here suit my taste absolutely perfectly. Their chicken chop, roast pork, and curry chicken dishes are my favourite and my usual go to stuff. Try also the broccoli chicken. In winter, have a hot pot. I recommend the Thai or Sichuan style hot pots, rice with thick broth, so bloody good. My first trip to May House was on my 4th day in Ames, and Ive been a loyal customer since. Enjoy, my friends

Best Chinese in Ames! This place is always filled with local Chinese students and university staff so you know its authentic. Dont expect a 5-star environment because youll be severely disappointed. Its more of a "Ma & Pa" kind of restaurant where you can hear them cooking your food in the wok and you grab your own drink and silverware. The service is fast, the staff are all smiles, and the price is right. Almost all dishes are $6 or $7. BRING CASH. They dont take credit cards.

I had an awful experience at this place. The chicken had WAY too much fat in it, the chicken with broccoli had very little broccoli in it, and I could have made a better sauce at home than this. The crab rangoon had absolutely no crab in it, and did not have any spice either. It was just overly-fried wonton wrap and plain cream cheese.

VERY IMPORTANT: CASH ONLY. I ordered takeout and liked it! The man who answered my call could improve his phone manners, but I wanted Chinese food and I got it. The building has years of character, and the prices arent bad. The take out serving sizes are very generous; one order is almost too much for one person.

The entree I ordered smelled so bad. The weird odor smelled like dated newspapers or commercial papers which made me vomited. Not sure it is sanitary and safe to eat. Another bad experience was that they only accept paying in cash which was really inconvenient.

May House has been my go to Chinese restaurant for the past couple months. They have a variety of Chinese food that taste great and offer competitive prices for college students. Would highly recommend their Mustard Pork.
