It was okay pretty much sums up our experience. "Just okay" generally doesnt get me to come back, though. I read the reviews on here before showing up and I must disagree with the persons who said the place was disgusting and run-down. Its really not, and Im a person who hates eating at holes-in-the-wall and ghetto restaurants. The service was typical of an asian restaurant (language barrier), though our actual server was particularly nice. There were about 15 people in the restaurant and we were seated right away. The place was decorated rather nicely (or at least they tried very hard), and was fairly decent size. This is NOT intended to be a chinese fast food place (like Tsing Tsao or Sheng Yen). We ordered and received our food promptly. The presentation was excellent and the chefs tried to make the plates look very appetizing. I ordered Orange Beef and my girl ordered Lemon Chicken. The lemon chicken was fairly good--two large battered-and-fried boneless breasts, sliced, and served with a bowl of lemon sauce. My Orange Beef on the other hand, was the worst Ive ever had. The sauce was ok, but the cut of beef that this restaurant uses must be the cheapest meat they can find. I had to saw through the pieces to divide them up and chewing took a minute per bite. The orange zest included with the dish was candied, which most chinese restaurants dont do (makes it very tasty). Overall, I would give the restaurant 2.5 stars and I will likely not be returning.

Weve been here four times in the last few months since weve lived here. The food has been consistently good. I always get the hot and sour soup. Probably one of the best hot and sour soup Ive had. It is a little spicy, the way I like it. This past Wednesday, having a Chinese craving, we scoped out other Chinese restaurants in town and none of the reviews gave us confidence that we may enjoy the food. So we decided to fall back to China Moon based on our previous good experiences. They didnt disappoint. We were a little disappointed that we were the only customers in the restaurant the whole time. So we wanted to put our opinion out here if it helps other decide where to go for their next Chinese meal. And hopefully more people will discover this awesome place.

I was shocked at the quality of food, service, and atmosphere. It is extremely poor. The food is overpriced and tastes like a frozen meal made from poor ingredients. The service is almost non-existent as the staff seems to do the bare minimum to call themselves a restaurant. The atmosphere...my daughter sat in a highchair from the fifties. The strap used to be white and was stained almost black. The place is extremely old and run-down. You can tell the staff tries hard and is polite, but they clearly do not understand how to run a business.

I have only ordered take out but, it is the best Chinese food I have found in Ankeny. I am from a small town in northwest Iowa and our Chinese restaurant is Amazing, so Im very biased in Chinese food. Every time Ive ordered I get my food super fast, it is Hot, and has great flavor. Their crab rangoons are delicious! The orange chicken here actually has some spice to it. I am especially happy because they are not far from my home so they are quickly becoming a staple for our house.

Horrible. Just ordered from them and food was delivered with a bug sitting right on top. I wish I had the option to post a picture. I wanted to cry. Tried to call the store but no one answered. So I got up and drove there. The kid at the counter had NOTHING to say. Another man came up and said that they had left the back door open because it was nice out. Like no big deal! They did refund my money but I highly doubt Ill be enjoying Chinese food any time soon!

We got carryout and our experience was tolerable at best. My 9 year old son even said it was tasteless. The food was only warm. The portions were good sized and that is about all that was truly good about our experience. Crab rangoon tasted odd and was soggy (not crispy as it should be), the rice was truly tasteless, and the sweet and sour shrimp were not crispy either. We will definitely not return to China Moon.

Not recommended. I got as carryout a regular order of General Tsos, and a large order of pork fried rice. The price was just over $20 excluding the tip, and the food was not impressive. The rice didnt look very fried, and there wasnt all that much Tsos. Very little bang for the buck, and the quality was disproportionally low. The Ankeny area has much better Chinese cuisine to offer. Check around.

A great place to eat at. I eat here when ever i get the chance to eat here.I have been here numerous of times and love their food and hospitality. They truly are my favorite place. Their Crab Rangoons are the best nationwide i get at least 8 of them when I am there keep up the good work guys see you soon!!!

Ordered carryout. They failed to include my paid for order of crab rangoon and the complimentary egg roll order with every take out. I also ordered steamed rice and got egg fried rice. Open your bag and check before you leave, just like you have to do at McDonalds! Food was OK, but not great.

I have been a customer for about 15 years...any non-chain restaurant in Ankeny that can keep providing good food and service deserves a visit..sauces are thin and not starchy...also a family business with same owner for all these years.

I had a good twice fried pork dish. My lady had a chicken thing that was suitable for a homeless man or a pubescent teenage boy. Beer was flat. Place was cold. Staff was nice.

China Moon is my familys favorite Chinese restaurant in Ankeny. The dining room is quiet, the food delicious, and their Crab Rangoon is the best in town.

If you enjoy food court Chinese then this is your place. My kids literally wouldnt eat it. Dont waste your time or money, go somewhere else.
